Antonino Saladino was born on March 19, 1773, and baptized as Antoninus Joseph the next day in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesco Saladino and his wife Maddalena Pipitone. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab).

On September 10th, 15th and 22nd banns were read in church for Antonino to marry Francesca di Matteo. She was born and baptized as Francisca Maria Josepha on February 12, 1777, also in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonino di Matteo and his wife Caterina Riportella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Twenty-nine year-old Antonino and 25 year-old Francesca were married on September 26, 1802, at the St. Vito’s church in Sciacca less than a week after the last banns were read and 24 days after his father died. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Only three Sciacca St. Vito baptism records have been found for the children of Antonono and Francesca Saladino as follows — Maddalena, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on March 30, 1803, only 7 months after her parents marriage, was baptized the next day as Maddalena Josepha Vincenza, married twice and died a widow at age 77 on November 3, 1880; ancestor Caterina was named after her maternal grandmother; and Grazia, who was born and baptized on the evening of December 11, 1812, as Gratia Caietana, after her paternal great-grandmother. On Grazia baptism record her mother is listed with her maiden name of De Matteo.

The Italia Archivio di Stato di Agrigento, Stato Civile della Restaurazione, Sciacca Matrimoni collection has images for both Catarina and Maddalena’s marriages. The images for the years 1828 and 1830 give us conflicting information as to what was the given name of Antonino’s father’s. Both of these marriage record images list Antonino and Francesca’s full names, but on Caterina’s marriage record, it indicates that her grandfather was Francesco Saladino. On Maddalena’s first marriage record, he is recorded as Luciano Saladino. Maddalena’s second marriage, does not list the grandfather’s name at all. This confusion is settled in Caterina’s marriage processetti, as there is a page written in Latin which lists both her father and grandfather Francesco’s death information. (Mouse over and click on their death statement image middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

This short statement in Caterina’s marriage processetti (pictured left) states that Antonino died “in regular communion with the church” on February 10, 1818. A member of the GenAG - Genealogie Agrigentine Facebook group translates this statement as “Antonino Saladino died at the age of 40 sudden death on February 10, 1818, and is buried in San Francesco.” This is probably the St. Francesco church which was at that time outside the city. His mother church burial record lists him as Antoninus Saladino age 41, but he was actually 44 years old when he died. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Francesca died two years after her husband on April 5, 1820. Her civil death record, also found in the processetti, is a traditional one that gives her age incorrectly as 49 years old, as she was only 43 when she died. It also states that she was the widow of Antonino Saladino and lists both of her deceased parents names. (Mouse over and click on Francesca’s civil death record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Oddly, a Sciacca church burial record could not be found for her. This is all that is known about them.

Francesco Saladino was born probably before 1747, possibly in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Grazia Lo Iacono and her husband Antonino Saladino. On January 25th and February 1st and 16th of 1767, church banns were read for Francesco to marry 14 ½ year-old Madalena Pipitone. They were married on February 8, 1767, two days after the last banns were read at the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Madalena was born and baptized as Anna Maria Magdalena Maurelia on the morning of July 22, 1752, the daughter of Anna Maria Stefano and her husband Giuseppe Pipitone. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her baptism record reveals a mystery, as her father’s name of Pipitone is crossed out and above it is written Amoroso. It also lists her mother’s name as Anna Maria Termine. Read more about this in her parents bio.

Three St. Vito and one mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Francisco and Madalena Saladino as follows — Grazia, named after her paternal grandmother was born and baptized as Gratia Teresica on the evening of November 8, 1769; ancestor Antonino was named after his paternal grandfather; Maria Regina Margarita was born and baptized on the evening of December 9, 1776 in the mother church parish; and Rosa Margarita Vita, who was born on August 3, 1796, and baptized the next day. There is also another child born to Francesco and Maddalena named Anna Maria, named after her maternal grandmother, but a baptism record could not be found for her. She was probably born in Sciacca about 1783, married Gioachino Piazza on June 1, 1808, at the Sciacca St. Vito church and died there, a widow on January 31, 1843. On Anna Maria’s death record her mother is listed as Maddalena Amoroso, but on her marriage document, her mother is listed as Maria Magdalena Pipitone. It is possible that she may be the Maria Regina mentioned above.

In his granddaughter ancestor Caterina’s marriage processetti, there is a page with a brief statement about Francesco’s death. With help from the GenAG - Genealogie Agrigentine Facebook group, the statement reads, “Francesco Saladino dies suddenly at 49 and is buried in the mother church.” It also states he died “in regular communion with the church” on September 2, 1802. (View this document in his son Antonino’s bio above. Francesco’s death information is indicated by the second pointed finger hand image on the document.) This is a copy of his St. Vito burial record, which lists him as Francisus Saladdino age about 49. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His age listed on these documents must be incorrect as Francesco would have been only 14 years old when he married-very unlikely. He probably was in his 50’s when he died. What is known for certain is that he was deceased when his son ancestor Antonino was married on September 26, 1802, which agrees with the date on the burial records. Madalena was still alive at that time, but died and was buried a few years later on July 6, 1805. Her St. Vito burial record lists her as Madalena Saladino, about 50 years old, which is close to her actual age of 16 days short of her 53rd birthday. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

The only thing known about Francesco’s parents is that his father Antonino was deceased when he was married in 1767, but his mother Grazia was still alive. Unfortunately, that is all that is known about Francesco, his parents or Madalena.

Antonino di Matteo was born on September 25, 1732, and baptized the next day as Vincenzius Antonius in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesca Bonanno and her husband Gioacchino di Matteo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On October 12th, 19th and 27th, church banns were read for Antonino to marry Caterina Riportella. She was born and baptized as Catherina Lucia, after her maternal grandmother, at the mother church in Sciacca on the evening of December 12, 1744, the daughter of Rosa Montalbano and her husband Felice Riportella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Thirty-four year-old Antonino and 21 year-old Caterina were married at the mother church in Sciacca on November 2, 1766. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Six Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Caterina di Matteo, the first child was baptized in the mother church parish and the rest in the St. Vito parish as follows — Gioachino was born on September 8, 1767, baptized as Joachim Joseph Joanne, the next day, married Rosaria on January 30, 1791, in Sciacca, then after she died, he married Giovanna Bacchi and he died there a widower on March 4, 1842; Francesca, named after her paternal grandmother was born on August 1, 1769, and baptized the next day, but she probably died young; Felice, named after his maternal grandfather was born and baptized as Felix Joseph on the evening of February 17, 1772, and grew up to marry Nimfa Vinci on September 27, 1801; Giuseppe, named after his paternal great-grandfather, was born on the evening of October 26, 1774, baptized the next day as Joseph Simon Petrus, married first Angela di Vita, then Girolama Maglienti, and finally Rosaria Criali who he was married to when he died in Sciacca on November 3, 1852; ancestor Francesca; and Salvatore, who was born and baptized as Salvator Francisus Joseph on March 17, 1782, and grew up to marry Giovanna Maniscalco on October 8, 1809.

It is documented that Antonino was alive on September 26, 1802, when his daughter ancestor Francesca was married, but deceased by June 13, 1804, the date his son Gioachino married for the second time. Antonino died and was buried in the St. Domenico cemetery in Sciacca on July 26, 1803. His St. Vito burial record lists him as Master Antoninus di Matteo, 70 years old, but it is very hard to read. The transcriber who wrote the index many years later, listed him as 40 years old. But the 4 is actually a 7 with a line through the bottom section, as he was 70 when he died. It is not known when Caterina died, but it is documented that she was alive when her son Salvatore was married in 1809 and deceased by April 5, 1820, when her daughter ancestor Francesca died. It is not known if she remarried, but a Sciacca burial record in her maiden or married name could not be found for her. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about Antonino and Caterina.

~< Back to Chart >~

Giuseppe Pipitone was the son of Anna Bivona and her husband Francesco Pipitone, and probably was born in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, but a Sciacca baptism record has not been found for him yet. On September 22nd, 26th and 29th of 1751, church banns were read for Giuseppe to marry Anna Maria Stefano. She was the daughter of Rocca Parrino and her husband Giovanni Stefano. Nothing is known about Anna Maria’s parents or even where or when she was born. Giuseppe and Anna Maria were married on October 6, 1751, in the Sciacca mother church, the Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Shortly after their marriage they were living in the St. Vito church parish of Sciacca and raised a family there.

Eight St. Vito baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Anna Ma Pipitone as follows — ancestor Madalena; Francisco, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on March 29, 1756, and baptized as Francisus Nicolaus Vitus the next day; Anna, named after her paternal grandmother, was born and baptized as Anna Angiola Ma[ria] on the evening of December 2, 1757; Geronimo was born and baptized as Geronimus Franciscus on the morning of February 22, 1759; Angela Maria Vincentia was born and baptized on the morning of March 16, 1761, and may have died young; Angela Maria Aloysia was born and baptized on May 10, 1762; another Angela was born in the late evening of October 8, 1764, and baptized as Angela Lauria Maria the next day; and a fourth Angela was born late on May 14, 1767, and baptized the next day as Angela Maria Teresia.

Anna Maria died sometime after her last child was born, but a church burial record for her has not been found yet. Giuseppe married the widow Maria Solano on January 9, 1779, at the mother church in Sciacca. On their marriage document he is listed as the widower of Anna Maria and the son of the deceased Francisco and Anna Bivona. Unfortunately, it is not known when Giuseppe died, so for now, this is all that is known about them.

Gioacchino di Matteo was born on October 7, 1703, and baptized the next day as Joachim Ignatius Leonardius in the St. Vito’s church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angela Falsone and her husband Giuseppe di Matteo (mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab).

On November 12th, 19th, and 26th banns were read in the Sciacca mother church for Gioacchino to marry Francesca Bonanno. She was born in Sciacca and baptized in the mother church parish there as Francisca Maria on September 7, 1708, the daughter of Caterina Guardino and her husband Vincenzo Bonanno. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Two days after the last banns were read, 21 year-old Gioacchino and 16 year-old Francesca were married at the mother church in Sciacca on November 28, 1724. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Only five mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Joachim and Francesca di Matteo as follows — Giuseppe, who was the eldest son, was born on the morning of January 5, 1726, and baptized that same day as Joseph Paulus, after his paternal grandfather; Angela Caterina, who was the eldest daughter, as she was named after both of her grandmothers, was born on November 9, 1728, and baptized the next day, but she died a few days later on the 17th; another Angela Catherina was born and baptized on the evening of May 24, 1731; ancestor Antonino; and Thomas Joachim Joanneus who was born and baptized on March 7, 1736.

It is not known when Gioacchino and Francesca died, but they were both deceased when their son Antonino was married on November 2, 1766. Burial records for both of them have not been found. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Felice Riportella was born on the evening of April 15, 1708, and baptized as Felix Calogerus Ignatius, that same night in the St Vito’s church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angela Romano and her husband Leonardo Riportella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He was listed an being 5 years old on his father’s 1714 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record), but he was actually 6 years old.

On January 6th, 10th and 17th, banns were read in church for 25 year-old Felice to marry ancestor Rosa Montalbano, who was the 36 year-old widow of ancestor Calogero Santangelo. Although their marriage document states differently, Rosa’s mother’s surname was not Indelicato. (See Rosa’s bio on another page for more about her.) Felice and Rosa married at the mother church in Sciacca on January 18, 1734. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This means that when ancestor Fara Santangelo married in 1741, her mother Rosa was married to Felice.

Four Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Felice and Rosa Riportella as follows — eldest son Leonardo, named after his paternal grandfather was born on April 13, 1736, and baptized the next day as Leonardius Vincentius; Angela was born on December 1, 1737, and baptized the next day as Angela Catherina Ignazia; Leonarda Maria Joanna was born and baptized on the morning of July 30, 1741; and ancestor Caterina.

There is a 1747 Sciacca Rivelo for this family that lists his parents as named above and his age as 38, which calculates his birth to about 1709. (Mouse over and click on Felice's 1747 Rivelo record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Then listed are Felice’s wife Rosa and their two daughters, Angela and ancestor Caterina. No ages are given for any of the females, but the children are usually listed in age order. The listing of his property seems to indicate that he had a good deal of it, but it is extremely hard to read and some of it is crossed out.

Felice died, and was buried on April 14, 1762, a day before his 54th birthday. His mother church burial record states he was about 50 years old, which is four years younger than his actual age. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about him.

Francesco Pipitone and his wife Anna Bivona’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. It is not known where or when they married. Only three Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Francisco and Anna Pipitone as follows — Anna Ma[ria] was born and baptized in the mother church parish on August 25, 1724; Matteo was born and baptized as Matthew Gaspar in the St. Vito church parish on March 31, 1729; and Lauria was born and baptized as Lauria Ignatia in the mother church parish on February 24, 1732. A Sciacca baptism record has not been found for ancestor Giuseppe. Both Matteo and his sister Lauria, were married to a brother and sister of another family, on September 23, 1753, but their surname is difficult to read.

It is documented that Francesco was deceased and Anna was alive when their son ancestor Giuseppe was married on October 6, 1751, but a church burial record for Francesco could not be found. It is also documented that Anna was still alive when her son Matteo and his sister Lauria, were married in 1753. Anna died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on July 1, 1759. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Anna Pipitone, about 52 years old, which puts her birth to about 1707, but burial record ages are usually just an estimate. If this is correct she would have been about 17 years old when Anna Maria was baptized. No other identifying information is given on this record, but it does seem to be her. For now, this is all that’s known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Giuseppe di Matteo was the son of Carlo di Matteo and his wife Aloysia, whose surname is unknown. It is unknown when and where he was born, but he lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. In 1699 on February 8th, 15th and 22nd, church banns were read for Giuseppe to marry the widow Angela Falsone. Her ancestry is unknown, but it is documented that she was the widow of Antonino Cucchiara. Giuseppe and Angela were married at the St. Vito church in Sciacca on February 24, 1699. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It is not known if she brought any children into this marriage. Their only known child was ancestor Gioacchino.

The only thing known about Giuseppe’s parents, Carlo and Aloysia, is that they both were deceased when their son was married. It is also not known when Angela and Giuseppe died, but she was deceased, and he was alive when their son ancestor Gioacchino was married on November 28, 1724. There is however, a December 2, 1748, burial record for an 83 year-old Joseph di Matteo that may be him, but there is no other identifying information on it to confirm that this is ancestor Giuseppe. (Mouse over and click on the Latin church burial record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His listed age calculates his birth to 1665, which would make him 34 years old when he married Angela. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Vincenzo Bonanno was born, and baptized as Vincenzius Antoninus Jacobus on February 8, 1668, in the mother church parish of  Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesca (surname unknown) and Calogero Bonanno. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On December 8th, 11th, and 18th, of 1707, banns were read in church for Vincenzo to marry Caterina Guardino. She was baptized as Anna Maria Catharina in the mother church parish of Sciacca on May 9, 1683, the daughter of Margarita Montagrino and her husband Domenico Guardino. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Vincenzo and Caterina were married a few weeks later on January 7, 1708, the same day as Caterina’s older brother, Giuseppe, and Vincenzo’s sister, Herodimas, got married. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

There is a July 28, 1714, Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) that may be for them, but because it doesn’t state Vincenzo’s parents names, it is not certain this is them. (Mouse over and click on their 1714 Rivelo record image middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  This Rivelo lists Vincenzo as 50 years old, which calculates his birth to about 1664. His wife is simply listed as Caterina, without a surname or age. Then their three children are listed as follows — ancestor Francesca, was the oldest daughter and was named after her father’s mother; a one year-old son named Paolo; and a daughter named Santa, who was probably an infant. The children’s names on this Rivelo do not confirm that they are the ancestors, but being married for six years and having only three children may suggest there were other children who probably died young. What is clear from this document is that they didn’t own much when this Rivelo was recorded. It should be noted that baptism records for Paolo and Santa can’t be found in the Sciacca church records. What was found was a baptism record for a Hieramina or Hyeromina Margarita who was born to Vincenzio and Catarina Bonanno on May 31, 1717, and baptized the next day. Note that her given name is similar to her father’s sister’s name mentioned above.

It is documented that Vincenzo and Caterina were alive when their daughter, ancestor Francesca was married on November 28, 1724. A July 22, 1729, mother church burial record was found for a Vincenzius Bonanno, whose age is estimated at 60 years old, and was buried in the mother church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) There is no other identifying information on the record but this is probably ancestor Vincenzo, who was 61 years old at this time. Caterina’s burial record supports this assumption. Her May 24, 1734, mother church burial record states she was about 60 years old, and lists her as Catharina, wife of the deceased Vincenzius Bonanno. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her actual age was 51 years old and she was also buried in the mother church cemetery. Although there is no other identifying information on this record, this really seems to be for ancestor Caterina Guardino. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Leonardo Riportella was born on September 5, 1667, and baptized the next day as Leonardus Petrus Francescus, in the St. Michele’s church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Mario Riportella and his wife Antoni Pastorella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On September 20th, 28th and October 2nd banns were read for Leonardo to marry Angela Romano. She was born on August 30, 1682, and baptized the next day in the Sciacca mother church parish as Antonina Rosa Angela, the daughter of Baldassare Romano and his wife Diana Lanzaruni. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Thirty-one year old Leonardo and sixteen year-old Angela married at St. Vito’s church in Sciacca on October 12, 1698. (Mouse over and click on their church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Ten Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Leonardo and Angela Riportella, the first and the last four baptisms were found in the mother church records, the others in the St. Vito records, as follows — Mario, named after his paternal grandfather was born and baptized as Marius Franciscus Antoninus on March 9, 1700; Antonia, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the morning of February 21, 1701, and baptized that same day as Francesca Antonia; Diana Vita, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on the morning of November 5, 1703, and baptized the next day; ancestor Felice; Maria was born on December 9, 1711, and baptized the next day as Japostha Felia Maria Calogera; Dorothea Mariana was born on May 2, 1715, and baptized the next day; Heirlus Calogero on the evening of October 6, 1717; Gabiela Francesca was born on October 1, 1720, and baptized the next day; another Mario, was born and baptized as Marius Gabriel Francescus on July 2, 1722, and died 11 months later on June 17, 1723; and Calogero Ignazio, who was born and baptized on the evening of October 22, 1724, but died on February 22, 1728, eight months before his fourth birthday.

There is a Sciacca Rivelo (tax record), dated July 13, 1714, for this family. (Mouse over and click on their 1714 Rivelo record image middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On it, Leonardo is listed as being 42 years old, almost five years younger than his actual age. His father is listed as Mario, but his mother’s name is not given. His wife Angela, three daughters, a son and his father are listed next with the surname of Riportella, but no ages are given for the females. The children are listed in the following order, oldest to youngest — Antonia, Diana, Maria and 5 year-old ancestor Felice. The last person listed is Mario, Padre, Leonardo’s father, but his age is not given, which may indicate he was very old. It is interesting that their first born son named Mario isn’t listed. Leonardo’s property (Beni stabili) was listed as 10, so they were doing fine.

Leonardo died and was buried at the convent of St. Maria Mentis Carmeli cemetery in Sciacca on February 17, 1736. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record states he was about 71 years old, only 3 years off of his actual age of 68. Angela died on June 30, 1736, just four months after her husband’s death. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record states she was the wife of the deceased Leonardo Riportella and that she was about 70 years old, which is way off of her actual age of two months short of 54 years old. She was buried in the same cemetery as her husband. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Francesca and Calogero Bonanno’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record can not be found for them. What is found are two mother church baptisms and one marriage record for their children as follows — a daughter Biagia was born on October 7, 1667, and baptized the next day as Blasia Angela; and ancestor Vincenzo. The found marriage record is for their daughter named Herodias, who in Italian would be called Eloisia, Aloisia or Luigia. She was married the same day as her brother, ancestor Vincenzo, to Giuseppe Francesco Guardino, who was the brother of of Vincenzo’s wife Caterina. A Sciacca baptism record for Herodias has not been found

It is not known when Francesca and Calogero died, but they were both deceased when their son Ancestor Vincenzo was married on January 7, 1708. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Dominico Guardino was born on January 22, 1639, and baptized the next day as Dominius Accursius, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonino Guardino and his wife Giovanna Caradonna (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He was the older brother of ancestor Didaci Guardino.

On April 16th, 23rd and 30th of 1662, church banns were read for Dominico to marry Margarita Montagrino. She was born in Sciacca and baptized as Margarita Rosaria, also in the Sciacca mother church parish, on the morning of October 5, 1642, the daughter of Francesco Montagrino and his wife Caterina Foti. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Two months later 23 year-old Dominico married 19 year-old Margarita on June 25, 1662, at the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Eight mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Dominico and Margarita Guardino as follows — Honuphius Leonardius Antoninius was born on the evening of February 13, 1663, and baptized the next day; Antonino was born and baptized as Antonino Sebastiano Honophius on January 19, 1664; Giovanna was born on November 18, 1666, and baptized the next day as Joanna Alberta Petroi; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Antonius Dominicus on August 3, 1669, but he died at 4 months old on December 24, 1669; another Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Francesco Ignatius, on the evening of December 29, 1670; Ignazio was born on the evening of March 11, 1674, and baptized that same night as Ignatius Francesco Nicolaus; Cosmos was born and baptized as Cosmas Domianus Gaitanus Joseph on November 9, 1676; and lastly ancestor Caterina.

Dominico died and was buried at the mother church cemetery on April 12, 1710. His mother church burial record states he was 60 years old, but he was actually 71 years old. Mario Riportella was born on the evening of March 31, 1638, and baptized the next day as Marius Dominicus Antoninus in the St Michele’s church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Margarita Tornetta and her husband Vincenzo Riportella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He is also the older brother to ancestor Dominica Riportella who married Pietro Marino.

On November 4th, 11th and 18th of 1663, church banns were read for 25 year-old Mario to marry 19 year-old Antonia Pastorella. She was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1644, and baptized the next day as Antonia Catherina in the St. Vito’s church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Angela de Vita and her husband Giovanni Pastorella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Mario and Antonia were married at St. Vito’s church in Sciacca on November 25, 1663. Only four Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Mario and Antonia Riportella. Their first child was baptized at St. Vito’s church, but the other three were baptized at St. Michele’s church as follows — Vincenzo, named after his paternal grandfather, was born and baptized as Vincencius Honofrius Leonardus on August 23, 1665, and married Vincenza Sclafani on June 1, 1705; ancestor Leonardo, the first to be baptized at St. Michele’s; Angela Margarita was born on the evening of February 9, 1671, and baptized the next day; and Giuseppe Giovanna Tomas, who was baptized on December 20, 1673.

Antonia died and was buried in the convent of St. Dominico cemetery on September 27, 1710. Her mother church burial record states she was about 70 years old, but she was just 66. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This record is in her married name and does not state her husband’s name. It is not known when Mario died, but he was still alive on July 13, 1714, when he was listed on his son ancestor Leonardo’s tax record. A death record has not yet been found for him. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Baldassare Romano was born on January 23, 1644, and baptized as Baldassare Melchior Paulus, two days later in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Diana Fiovino and her husband Antonino Romano. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On April 2nd, 3rd, and 8th of 1668, church banns were read for 24 year-old Baldassare to marry 19 year-old Diana Lanzaruni. She was born and baptized in the St Michele’s church parish of Sciacca on June 14, 1648, the daughter of Angela Amato and her husband Michele Lanzaruni. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Baldassare and Diana were married at St. Michael’s church on April 9, 1668, one day after the last banns were read. Ten Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Baldassare and Diana Romano as follows — Antonina Leonarda was born on December 30, 1668, and baptized the next day with the female version of her paternal grandfather’s given name; Antonino was born on August 13, 1671, and baptized the next day as Antoninus Joseph, after his paternal grandfather, but probably died as a toddler; another Antonino was born and baptized as Antoninus Philippus Agostinus on August 28, 1673; Michele was born and baptized on the evening of November 10, 1675, and named Michaele Joseph Calogerus Dominicus after his maternal grandfather; Gabriel Silvestus Liberaus was born and baptized on December 31, 1678; ancestor Angela; Anna Maria was born and baptized on the morning of May 2, 1685; Calogero Joannes Ignatius was born and baptized on the morning of September 9, 1688; and twins born on May 30, 1691, Maria Antonina Vita, who was baptized that same day, and Ignazia Theresa Angela Stephana who was baptized the next day. It is interesting that Maria’s godmother was ancestor Antonina wife of Mario Riportella.

It is not known yet when Baldassare and Diana died, but they both were alive when their daughter ancestor Angela was married on October 12, 1698. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.
