Antonino Soldano was born on the night of January 17, 1684, and baptized as Antonino Joseph Onofrio at the mother church in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Domeninco Soldano and his wife Anne Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On June 9th, 10th and 11th of 1715, church banns were read for Antonino to marry Caterina Scarpinati. She was born on January 5, 1698, and baptized as Catharina Antonia Aloysia the next day at the St. Michele church in Sciacca, the daughter of Angela Galluzzo and her husband Calogero Scarpinati. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Antonino and Caterina were married at the mother church in Sciacca on June 20, 1715, in a double wedding with their siblings. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

There are nine Sciacca mother church baptism records for the children of Antonino and Caterina Soldano. Most were born and baptized on the dates shown, but one was born the day before — Anna Maria Francesca on September 22, 1716; Domenico Gergorio Ignazio on January 7, 1718; Angela Antonia Anna on October 2, 1723; Michael Simone Vincenzo was born on October 27, 1724, and baptized the next day; Calogero Vincenzo on June 26, 1726; Vincenza on August 30, 1730, who died before her 2nd birthday; ancestor Vincenza; Giuseppe Salvatore on November 25, 1735; and Antonino Benedicto on March 21, 1739. They may have had other children, but these are the records found to date.

There is a 1747 Sciaccia Rivelo (tax record) for a widow named Caterina Soldano that may be for this family. (Mouse over and click on her 1747 Rivelo record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It was common then for a widow to be listed with her deceased husband’s surname in the Rivelis. Unfortunately, this Rivelo does not list the given name of the deceased husband or the ages of the females. The parents are listed as Domenico and Vincenza Soldano, which does not totally agree with the ancestors. The widow Vincenza’s children are listed as — Domenico, 23 years old is off by six years; Calogero, 22 years-old is about right; Grazia, who is not documented with a baptism record; and Vincenza, who may be ancestor Vincenza. This Rivelo is close to matching the ancestors, but not totally correct, so this is all speculation, and may not be for our Soldano family.

It is also known when Antonino and Caterina died, but she was alive when their daughter ancestor Vincenza was married on November 5, 1752. Antonio was deceased at that time, and if the Rivelo is for this family, he died prior to April 9, 1747, this date the tax record was created. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about Antonino and Caterina or her parents.

Domeninco Soldano was the son of Giuseppe Soldano and his wife Francesca, whose surname is unknown. It is not known when and where he was born and raised, but as an adult, he lived in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On September 10th, 17th and 21st church banns were read for Domenico to marry Anna Infantino. She was born the night of August 30, 1661, and baptized as Anna Maria at the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Anna was the eldest known daughter of Antonino Infantino and his wife Grazia, whose surname is unknown. Domennico and Anna were married on October 5, 1679, at the mother church in Sciacca, two weeks after the last banns was read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Domenico and Anna had at least five children, all born in Sciacca and baptized at the mother church there, as follows — Joannus Joseph on November 29, 1679, born just over a month after his parents married and was named after his father’s father; ancestor Antonino; Grazia Rosalia on December 9, 1685, was named after her mother’s mother, but probably died before her 7th birthday; Grazia Margarita was born on September 12, 1692, and baptized the next day; and Francesco Xaverio Vito Joseph on July 12, 1695.

It is not known when Domenico and Anna died, but he was alive and she was deceased when their son ancestor Antonino was married on June 20, 1715. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Calogero Scarpinati was the son of Antonino Scarpinati and his wife Catherine, whose surname is unknown. It is not known when and where he was born and raised, but as an adult, he lived in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On December 31, 1684, and January first and sixth of the next year, church banns were read for Calogero to marry Angela Galluzzo. She was probably born and raised in Sciacca, the daughter of Francesco Galluzzo and his wife Leonarda Bentivegna. Calogero and Angela were married on January 7, 1685, at St. Michele’s church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Calogero and Angela had at least five children, all born in Sciacca and baptized at St. Michele’s church as follows — Francesco Antonino on November 18, 1685, named after both of his grandfathers, apparently died before his first birthday; another Francesco Antonino on November 20, 1686, who apparently died before his 9th birthday; Ignazio Francesco on September 10, 1691; Francesco Joseph on April 4, 1695, who married at the mother church in Sciacca, Grazia Maria Soldano, the sister to ancestor Domenico, on the same day that ancestors Caterina and Domenico were married; and lastly, ancestor Caterina.

All that is known about Calogero and Angela’s parents is that her parents, Francesco and Leonarda, were alive, but his parents, Antonino and Catherine, were deceased when they got married. It is also not known when Calogero and Angela died, but she was alive, and he was deceased on June 20, 1715, when their children were married. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Antonino Infantino was born in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and baptized as Antonius Marius, in the Sciacca mother church parish on September 4, 1633, the son of Caterina Benivento and her husband Vincenzo Nicolò Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He married Grazia Spanò, sometime prior to 1657. A Sciacca church marriage record or notarial marriage contract can not be found for them. Grazia was born and baptized on November 9, 1633, as Angela Grazia, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Francesca Santangelo and her husband Gaspare Spanò. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Antonino and Grazia are the parents to two female ancestors, Anna Maria, who is on the Sabella line and Paola who is of the Marotta ancestry.

Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Grazia Infantino as follows — Lucas Vincenzo, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was born and baptized on October 18, 1657; ancestor Anna Maria who married Domeninco Soldano; Francesca Caterina, named after her two grandmothers, was born and baptized on December 17, 1663; ancestor Paula Catharina who married ancestor Stefano Marinello; Ignazio Alberto Nicolaus was born and baptized on March 2, 1668, but probably died before his 5th birthday; Maria Julia Francesco, given a middle name after her maternal great-grandmother, was born and baptized on the evening of November 26, 1670; Ignazio Paolo Francesco was born and baptized on the evening of March 26, 1673; and Leonardo Calogero Joseph, who was born and baptized on September 12, 1674.

Grazia died and was buried on June 12, 1708. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record states she was the 70 year-old wife of Antonino Infantino, but she was actually 74 when she died. Five years later, on February 5, 1714, Antonino died. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record states he was 81 years old and lists him with an alias of Tilla, which is the same alias listed on their daughter Paola’s 1686 marriage document. Both burial records are hard to read, but it looks like they were both buried in the same cemetery, St. Francesco, outside the city. For now, this is all that is known about them.

~<^>~

Francesco Galluzzo was baptized as Francesco Joseph at the St. Vito church in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy on April 1, 1621, the son of Calogero Galluzzo and his wife Maria Scaduto. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On July 24, 1639, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Carbone, filed a notarial marriage contract for Francesco and Leonarda Bentivegna. She was baptized on October 27, 1614, at St Michele’s church in Sciacca, the daughter of Michele Bentivegna and his wife Caterina Alesi. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A few months after the contract was issued, church banns were read on November 1st, 6th, and 11th for them to marry. Later that month on November 26, 1639, 18 year-old Francesco married 25 year-old Leonarda at St. Michele's church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Eight St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Leonarda Galluzzo as follows — Maria, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on December 11, 1640, and baptized the next day; Caterina Filippa, named after her maternal grandmother April 24, 1643, and baptized the next day; Rosalia Appolina was born on February 1, 1646, and baptized the next day; Antonino Calogero Accursio, was born on January 19, 1647, and baptized that same day with the middle name of his paternal grandfather’s given name; Accursio was born and baptized on July 4, 1651, as Accursius Joseph; Accursia Benvinutia was born on June 1, 1654, and baptized the next day; Gaetano was born on April 6, 1656, and baptized the next day as Gaetinus Joannius; and Anna Margarita, who was born on August 30, 1659, and baptized the next day. A baptism record for ancestor Angela could not be found.

It is documented that Francesco and Leonarda were alive when their daughter ancestor Angela was married on January 7, 1685. Francesco died and was buried in the Convent of St. Maria di Lillo cemetery in Sciacca on August 19, 1691. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Francescus Galluzzo, 70 years old, which was his correct age. Almost four years later, Leonarda died and was buried on May 23, 1695, in the same cemetery as her husband. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Leonarda wife of the deceased Francesco Galluzzo, 80 years old, which was her correct age. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Vincenzo Nicolò Infantino was baptized as Vino Nico on November 1, 1597, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Costanza and her husband Ambrosio Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

In 1630 on October 13th, 20th and 27th church banns were read for Vincenzo to marry Caterina Benivento. She was baptized on April 11, 1608, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Vito Benivento and his second wife Margarita Rizzuto. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Vincenzo, who was almost 33 years old and 22 year-old Caterina were married on October 28, 1630,the day after the last banns were read at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The only Sciacca baptism record found for their children was for ancestor Antonino.

Ten months after after ancestor Antonino was born, his mother Caterina died and was buried in the St Domenico cemetery on July 27, 1634, possibly giving birth to another child. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Her burial record, found in the mother church records, states she was the 28 year-old wife of Vincenzo de Infantino, but she was only 26 years old. Although Vincenzo was left with an infant, another Sciacca marriage record for him cannot be found. He may have remarried someone from another town, but this is only speculation. Just less than 3 ½ years after his wife died, Vincent died and was buried in the St. Vito church cemetery on December 29, 1637. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Vito burial record lists him as being 50 years old, but he was actually just over 40 years old when he died. For now, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Calogero Galluzzo was baptized on October 1, 1593, in the St. Michele church parish of in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesco Galluzzo and his wife Benvenuta Messina. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Calogero was named after his maternal grandfather.

On May 10, 1620, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano filed a notarial marriage contract between Calogero Galluzo and Maria Scaduto. She was baptized on August 21, 1595, in the S. Vito Church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Geronimo Scaduto and his wife Antonina Caternichia. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Twenty-six year-old Calogero and 24 year-old Maria were married in Sciacca at St. Michele’s church on June 7, 1620. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Seven baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero and Maria Galluzzo. Most were found in the St. Michele church records, but two were in other churches as follows — ancestor Francesco, who was named after his paternal grandfather, and was baptized at St Vito’s; Girolamo, named after his maternal grandfather, was baptized at the mother church on August 17, 1623, as Hieronimius Vincenzo, the Latin name for Geronimo; Benedetta Vita, the first to be baptized in St. Michele’s church, was born n April 27, 1627, and baptized the next day; Angela Antonia was born on March 31, 1630, and baptized the next day; son Angelo was born and baptized as Angelus Antonus on October 10, 1633; Giovanni was born and baptized as Joann Bateisus on December 19, 1635; and Michele, who was born and baptized as Michael Angelus on March 20, 1637.

It is documented that Calogero and Maria were both alive when their son, ancestor Francesco was married on November 26, 1639. Two years later, Calogero died and was buried in the St. Michele church cemetery on January 24, 1642. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His church burial record is brief, but lists him as Calogerus Galluzzo, age 50, but he was actually only 48 years old. A burial record for Maria has not been found yet. Unfortunately, at this time, this is all we know about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Michele Bentivegna is most likely the son of Angelo and Margarita Bentivegna, who was baptized as Michel Vincenzo on September 28, 1564, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. The reason for the uncertainty is that his mother’s name is not listed on his baptism record. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This means he is also the younger brother to ancestors Leonardo who married Maria Rovello and Vincenzo Filippo who married Margarita Longo.

On February 2, 1602, Sciacca notary, Antonio Buscemi filed a notarial marriage contract for Michele Bentivegna to marry Caterina Alesi. This contract is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro's book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They probably married soon after that date at the St. Michele church, but marriage records available for research do not begin until 1607. There church marriage was not found in the other two Sciacca church records. Because their marriage record could not be found, her ancestry is unknown.

Eight St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Michele and Caterina Bentivegna as follows — Nicolò as Nicolao Angilo on June 5, 1603, named after his paternal grandfather; Margarita on February 6, 1605, named after her paternal grandmother; Antonino as Anton on May 20, 1607, who married Maria Giodano on April 24, 1634; Calogera Silvestra on December 31, 1609; Accursia on May 8, 1612, who married Filippo Savino on the same day as her brother Antonio was married; ancestor Leonarda; Carlo Salvatori on August 6, 1617; and Giuseppe as Joseph Francesco, who was born and baptized on November 29, 1620.

It is not known when Michele and Caterina died, but he was already deceased when two of his children, son Antonino and daughter Accursia, married their spouses on the same day, April 24, 1634. It is also documented that Caterina was deceased when ancestor Leonarda was married on November 26, 1639. Unfortunately, at this time, this is all that is know about them.

~<^>~

Ambrosio Infantino’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On January 26, 1576, he married 19 year-old Caterina Costanza at the mother church there. (Mouse over and click on their very brief Latin church marriage record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized in the mother church parish of Sciacca on December 24, 1556, the daughter of Paolo Costanza and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Three days after Ambrosio and Caterina married, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for them. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Six mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Ambrozio and Caterina Infantino as follows — twins Vincenzo and Jacupella were baptized on June 27, 1578; Francesca on August 7, 1579; Giuseppe as Joseppi Micheli on October 19, 1582; Paolo as Paulo Vito on July 29, 1584, who was probably named after his maternal grandfather; and ancestor Vincenzo Nicolò. Naming two sons Vincenzo may be an indication that it was Ambrosio’s father’s name.

Nothing is known about Caterina’s father Paolo, except he was alive when she married in 1576. It is also not known when Ambrosio died, but he was deceased when their son ancestor Vincenzo Nicolò was married on October 28, 1630. Caterina lived a long life and died and was buried in the Sciacca St. Michele church cemetery on July 30, 1653. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her as Catherina Infantino, about 90, but she was actually 96 years old when she died. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Francesco Galluzzo was baptized as Antonino Francesco, on March 10, 1558, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angelo Galluzzo and his unnamed wife, whose name probably was Joannella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On April 17, 1581, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for Francesco and Benvenuta Messina. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on December 3, 1568, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Calogero Messina and his unnamed wife, who probably is named Margarita. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Twenty-three year old Francesco and 12 year-old Benvenuta were married on April 30, 1581, a few weeks after the contract was filed, at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Only four Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Franco and Benvinuta Galluzo, the first in the mother church parish and the rest in the St. Michele church parish. They are as follows — Filippo Angelo was baptized on March 6, 1588; Angelo, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized as Angelo Stephano Jo, the first in the St. Michele church parish; ancestor Calogero was named after his maternal grandfather; and Lauritia Margarita on August 10, 1596. It should be noted that their first child was baptized almost 7 years after they were married.

It is not known when Francesco and Benvenuta died, but it is documented that he was already deceased on January 12, 1615, the date their son Angelo was married. There is an entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, that states an inventory of the property of Francesco Galluzo was filed by Sciacca notary Vito Rizo on September 26, 1597. This could be ancestor Franceso, but Sciacca burial records for this time are not available for research, so it is uncertain. There is also a few other interesting items in this book. There is a marriage contact between Calogero Petrancosta and Benvenuta Messina, dated June 17, 1611. She could be ancestor Benvenuta, but a Sciacca church marriage document can not be found for them, so again, this is uncertain. Her name as Benvenuta Petrancosta is also mentioned several times about the sale of land in the Carbollaci section of Sciacca to a Calogero Messina in 1614 and 1616. Their relationship is not mentioned, but it could be her father. The last interesting entry is a Testamento, a will for Benvenuta Messina filed on March 29 1620. But a burial record could not be found for her. Until more documentation can be found, this will remain an uncertainty. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Geronimo Scaduto was baptized on December 1, 1559, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Agostino Scaduto and his wife Caterina Venezia. On at least one record his given name is listed as Ieronymus.  (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On January 17, 1583, 23 year-old Geronimo married 18 year-old Antonella Caternichia at the Sciacca mother church. She was baptized as Isabella Antonella on July 5, 1564, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonino Caternichia and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On all of the records found, she is listed as Antonella, which means priceless one or praiseworthy, and it’s a diminutive form of Antonia.

Only four Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Geronimo and Antonella La Scaduto as follows — Catherina, named after her paternal grandmother was baptized in the mother church parish on December 14, 1583, but probably died young; another Caterina was the first to be baptized in the St. Vito church parish on March 26, 1588; ancestor Maria; and Calogero Joseph, who was baptized on August 25, 1602.

Nothing is known about Antonella’s father Antonino, except that he was alive when she was married. It is also not known when Geronimo and Antonina died, but it is documented that he was deceased when their daughter ancestor Maria married on June 7, 1620. It should be noted that there is an entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s second volume of Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, for a will being filled for Antonella Caternichia. It is dated May 4, 1615, but a burial record around this time period for her name could not be found. So it is not known if this was for ancestor Antonella. For now, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Angelo Galluzzo and his wife Joannella’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Six mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Angelo Galluzo. It is not certain that Joannella is the mother of Angelo’s children as her name is not listed on any of the baptism records. Her name comes from their son Giuseppe’s marriage document. The six children were baptized as follows — Brigita on November 21, 1552; Caterina as Catini Calogera on December 28, 1553; another Caterina on September 19, 1556; ancestor Francesco; Giuseppe was baptized as Joseph Maetto on September 22, 1560; and yet another Caterina as Caterina Vincenza on February 21, 1563. Being that three daughters were named Caterina, it was probably a grandmother’s name.

It is not known when Angelo and Joannella died, but there is an entry for a Testamento, in volume two of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, that may be for ancestor Angelo. It is a will being filed by Sciacca notary Giovanna Vella, for d'Angelo Galluzo, dated August 6, 1580. It is not known for certain that this is ancestor Angelo, as burial records for this time are not available for research. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Calogero Messina was baptized in November of 1541, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Cola Messina, which is probably short for Nicolò, and his unnamed wife. Unfortunately, there isn’t a register image with details of his baptism. All that exists is this index listing of his baptism.

It is not known for certain who he married, but the last six of the twelve baptism records found for the children of Calogero Messina list a wife’s name of Margarita. Her name is also listed on their son Cesaro’s marriage document as his mother. being that Cesaro was born before ancestor Benvenuta, Margarita is probably her mother also. A Sciacca church marriage record or a Sciacca notarial marriage contract entry could not be found for Calogero and Margarita. The following twelve children were all baptized in the mother church parish of Sciacca — Cola was named after his paternal grandfather on February 1, 1561; Cesaro Nardo on December 20, 1562; Carlo was baptized as Caelo Antonino on June 11, 1564; Giovanni as Joannius on July 10, 1567; ancestor Benvenuta; Calogerella on July 6, 1570; Blasilla, the first to have a mother’s name on her record, was baptized on February 2, 1572; Giovanna was baptized as Jonna on August 7, 1574; Jacopo was baptized as Jaco on July 16, 1577, and may have died as an infant; Francesco Andria on October 5, 1578; another Jacopo was baptized as Jaco Mattheo on July 25, 1581; and Giovanna, who was baptized as Gio Anne on July 11,1587.

It is not known when Calogero died, but his name is mentioned several times in both volumes of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico up to and including 1619. If these entries are for ancestor Calogero is not known. For now, nothing else is known about him.

~<^>~

Agostino Scaduto and his wife Caterina Venezia’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On most of the records, Agostino’s given name is spelled Augustino.

In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is a notarial marriage contract for them dated September 29, 1538, issued by Sciacca notary Pietro Falco. They probably married soon after this contract was filed and are believed to be the parents of ancestor Geronimo.

Of the available Sciacca baptism records, only seven mother church records have been found for the children of Augustino Scaduto as follows — Giovanni Francesco was baptized in March of 1543, but there isn’t a register record for this time, so an exact date isn’t known; Peitro on December 11, 1544; Paola was baptized as Paula on January 25, 1550; Giuglielmo on February 17, 1554; Vincenzo on July 4, 1557; ancestor Geronimo; and Margaritella on December 20, 1562. None of these records list a mother’s name.

Unfortunately, it is not known when Agostino and Caterina died, but in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book mentioned above there is an entry for an inventory of property taken for d'Agostino Scaduto. It was filed by Sciacca notary Antonino Canina on October 25, 1575. Inventories are usually taken just days after the death. Unfortunately, Sciacca burial records are not available for this time period, so nothing more is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Nicolò Messina’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church baptism, marriage or contract could not be found for him. Only three Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Cola Missina as follows — Angelo was baptized sometime in February of 1539; ancestor Calogero; and a daughter named Filippa Giovanna, who was baptized as Pha Jonna on May 12, 1544. None of these record list a mother’s name. He probably had many other children, but these are the only ones documented in the three Sciacca church records.

His name is mentioned several times in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, all dated in February 11, 1549 and January 13, 1550, all having to do with leasing land and filed by Sciacca notary Petro Falco. They seem to say he was giving long leases of land to several different people, one near the monastery of Giummare. Because of the abbreviations, an exact translation is difficult to get. One interesting thing about these entries is that the word Selme/Salma translates to Corpse, which is an ancient unit of measurement, equivalent to 17,462.59 square meters, which was used in the past, especially in Sicily. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about him.
