Antonino Soldano was born on the night of January 17, 1684, and baptized as Antonino Joseph Onofrio in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Domeninco Soldano and his wife Anne Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso is the Sciacca mother church and the neighborhood surrounding it, is it’s parish. Newborns were baptized in their homes as soon as possible after they were born.
On June 9th, 10th and 11th of 1715, church banns were read for Antonino to marry Caterina Scarpinato. She was born on the morning of January 25, 1699, and baptized that same day in the St. Vito church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Angela Galluzzo and her husband Calogero Scarpinato. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Thirty-one year-old Antonino and sixteen year-old Caterina were married at the mother church in Sciacca on June 20, 1715, in a double wedding with their siblings. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
There are nine Sciacca mother church baptism records for the children of Antonino and Caterina Soldano as follows — Anna Maria Francesca, named after her paternal grandmother, was baptized on September 22, 1716; Domenico Gergorio Ignazio, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on the morning of January 7, 1718, and baptized later that day; Angela Antonia Anna, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on October 25, 1723, and baptized the next day; Michael Simone Vincenzo was born on October 27, 1724, and baptized the next day; Calogero Vincenzo, named after his maternal grandfather, was born and baptized on June 26, 1726; Vincenza was born on the morning of August 30, 1730, baptized the next day, died at home at two months old and was buried on November 14, 1730; ancestor Vincenza; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Salvatore on the evening of November 25, 1735; and Antonino Benedicto, who was born and baptized on March 21, 1739, six months after his father’s death.
There is a 1747 Sciaccia Rivelo (tax record) for a widow named Caterina Soldano that probably is for this family. (Mouse over and click on her 1747 Rivelo record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It was common then for a widow to be listed with her deceased husband’s surname in the Rivelis. Unfortunately, this Rivelo does not list the given name of the deceased husband or the ages of the females. The parents are listed as Domenico and Vincenza Soldano, which lists an incorrect mother’s name, but Antonino’s mother was deceased when Caterina married her son, so the mistake is understandable. The widow Caterina’s children are listed as — Domenico, listed as 23 years old, but he was actually 29 at this time, so it is off by six years; Calogero, listed as 22 years-old, was almost 21 at this time, so it is only off by a year ; Grazia, who is not documented with a baptism record; and Vincenza, who is ancestor Vincenza. Although this Rivelo is not totally correct, it is close enough to be our Soldano family as ancestor Caterina was a widow at this time.
It is documented that Antonino was deceased, but Caterina was alive when their daughter ancestor Vincenza was married on November 5, 1752. It is also documented that Antonino was deceased when their last child was baptized in 1739. Antonino died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on the morning of September 16, 1738. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Antonius Soldano about 70 years old, but he was actually only 54 years old when he died. Caterina lived another 17 more years and did not remarry. She died at home on November 16, 1755, and was also buried in the mother church cemetery that same day. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Catharina, widow of Antonus Soldano, about 60 years old, but she was actually 56 when she died. For now, this is all that is known about Antonino and Caterina.

Domeninco Soldano was the son of Giuseppe Soldano and his wife Francesca, whose surname is unknown. It is not known when and where he was born and raised, but as an adult, he married and lived in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy.
On January 14, 1679, Sciacca notary Ignazio Baccimeo filed a notarial marriage contract between Domenico Soldano and Maria Infantino. That same day that same notary filed another contract for their siblings, Vincenzo Infantino and Vita Soldano. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Nine months later on September 10th, 17th and 21st church banns were read for Domenico to marry Anna Maria Infantino. The reason why it took 9 months for the bands to be read, may be because they waited for Anna Maria’s 18th birthday. She was born the night of August 30, 1661, and baptized as Anna Maria in the mother church parish of Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Anna was the eldest known daughter of Antonino Infantino and his wife Grazia Spanò. Domennico and Anna were married on October 5, 1679, at the mother church in Sciacca, two weeks after the last banns was read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On that same day, in the same church, Domenico’s sister Vita Soldano married Anna’s brother Vincenzo Infantino.
Ten Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Domenico and Anna Soldano as follows — Giovanni was born and baptized as Joannus Joseph, after his paternal grandfather, on November 29, 1679, just over a month after his parents married; ancestor Antonino; Grazia Rosalia was born and baptized on the evening of December 9, 1685, was named after her maternal grandmother, but probably died before her 7th birthday; Giuseppe was born on the morning of June 12, 1689, and was baptized as Joseph Antonius Albertus that same day; Grazia Francesca Vitoria was born and baptized on the evening of January 9, 1691, but may have died young; Grazia Margarita was born on September 12, 1692, baptized the next day, and married Francesco Scarpinato, the son of ancestors Angela Galluzzo and Calogero Scarpinato, on the same day that her brother ancestor Antonio was married; Francesco Xaverio Vito Joseph was born on the morning of July 12, 1695 and baptized that same day; Beatrix Dominica Vitoria was born on February 19, 1698, and baptized the next day; Giuseppa was born on the evening of October 21, 1699, and baptized as Josepha Maria Vita the next day; and Vito, who was born on the evening of February 19, 1704, and baptized as Vitus Vincenzius the next day.
It is documented that Domenico was alive and Anna was deceased when their son ancestor Antonino was married on June 20, 1715. Anna died and was buried in the Convent of St Francesco outside the city cemetery on October 20, 1711.(Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her simply as Anna Maria wife of Dominici Soldano. Eleven years later, Domenico died at home and was buried in the mother church cemetery on February 22, 1722. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as, Dominicus Suldano 60 years old, which puts his birth to about 1662.
Sicacca records of any kind have not been found for Domenico’s parents, Giuseppe and Francesca Soldano. What is documented is that they had a daughter named Vita who is mentioned above; and Giuseppe was deceased, but Francesca was alive when their children married in 1679. For now, this is all that is known about all of them. |

Calogero Scarpinato was born and baptized as Calogero Accursio on December 18, 1636, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonino Scarpinato and his wife Catherine Palermo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On December 31, 1684, and January first and sixth of the next year, church banns were read for Calogero to marry Angela Galluzzo. A baptism record for her has not been found, but she was probably born and raised in Sciacca, the daughter of Francesco Galluzzo and his wife Leonarda Bentivegna. Forty-eight year-old Calogero and Angela were married on January 7, 1685, at St. Michele’s church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Calogero and Angela had at least six children, all born in Sciacca, five baptized in the St. Michele’s church parish and their last child in the St. Vito parish there as follows — Francesco Antonino on November 18, 1685, named after both of his grandfathers, apparently died before his first birthday; another Francesco Antonino on November 20, 1686, who may have died before his 9th birthday; Ignazio Francesco on September 10, 1691; Francesco Joseph on April 4, 1695, who married at the mother church in Sciacca in 1715, Grazia Soldano, the daughter of ancestor Domenico and Anna Marie, on the same day that ancestors Caterina and Antonino were married; Catharina Antonia Aloysia, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on January 5, 1698, baptized the next day, but died and was buried only 9 days later; and lastly, the above mentioned ancestor Caterina.
It is documented that Calogero was deceased and Angela was alive on June 20, 1715, when their daughter, ancestor Caterina was married. There is a mother church burial record for a Calogerus Scarpinato who died and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery on March 11, 1712. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This may be ancestor Calogero, but the age is way off. This burial records writing is very pale on parts of it. It looks like it says he was 51 years old, but ancestor Calogero would have been 75 years old at this time. Unfortunately, a burial record for Angela has not been found yet, so at this time, nothing else is known about them. |

Antonino Infantino was born in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and baptized as Antonius Marius, in the Sciacca mother church parish on September 4, 1633, the son of Caterina Benivento and her husband Vincenzo Nicolò Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He married Grazia Spanò, sometime prior to 1657. A Sciacca church marriage record or notarial marriage contract can not be found for them. Grazia was born and baptized on November 9, 1633, as Angela Grazia, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Francesca Santangelo and her husband Gaspare Spanò. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Antonino and Grazia are the parents to two female ancestors, Anna Maria, who is on the Sabella line and Paola who is of the Marotta ancestry.
Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Grazia Infantino as follows — Lucas Vincenzo, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was born and baptized on October 18, 1657; ancestor Anna Maria who married Domeninco Soldano; Francesca Caterina, named after her two grandmothers, was born and baptized on December 17, 1663; ancestor Paula Catharina who married ancestor Stefano Marinello; Ignazio Alberto Nicolaus was born and baptized on March 2, 1668, but probably died before his 5th birthday; Maria Julia Francesco, given a middle name after her maternal great-grandmother, was born and baptized on the evening of November 26, 1670; Ignazio Paolo Francesco was born and baptized on the evening of March 26, 1673; and Leonardo Calogero Joseph, who was born and baptized on September 12, 1674. There is also a mother church burial record for Lucianus son of Antoni Infantino about 3 months who could be another son, but a mother’s name is not on the record. A Sciacca baptism record could not be found for him, but his listed death age fits in with their children listed above.
Grazia died and was buried on June 12, 1708. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record states she was the 70 year-old wife of Antonino Infantino, but she was actually 74 when she died. Five years later, on February 5, 1714, Antonino died. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record states he was 81 years old and lists him with an alias of Tilla, which is the same alias listed on their daughter Paola’s 1686 marriage document. Both burial records are hard to read, but it looks like they were both buried in the same cemetery, St. Francesco, outside the city. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Antonino Scarpinato was baptized as Antonino Andrea on November 28, 1599, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Contissa Scaduto and her husband Vito Scarpinato. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On December 31, 1628, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano filed a notarial marriage contract for Antonino to marry Caterina Palermo. She was baptized on May 17, 1609, also in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Michele Palermo and his wife Angelica, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A few weeks later church banns were read January 14th, 21st and 28th of 1629 for them to marry. A few days later 29 year-old Antonino married 19 year-old Caterina on February 4, 1629, in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Ten St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Caterina Scarpinato as follows — Vito, named after his paternal grandfather was born on the evening of October 17, 1629, and baptized as Vito Pho the next day; Paulus Vito was born on the evening of November 2, 1630, and baptized the next day; Michele, named after his maternal grandfather, was born on the evening of August 30, 1632, baptized as Michael Joseph the next day, but probably died as an infant; another Michael Joseph was born on the evening of October 18, 1634, and baptized the next day; ancestor Calogero; Dominico Blasius was born on December 11, 1638, and baptized the next day; Antonina Josepha was born on the evening of March 19, 1641, baptized the next day, and in 1658, married Giuseppe, the son of ancestors Ippolito Montagnino and Nunzia Napoli; Maria Cappella was born and baptized on January 4, 1643; Angela Geronima was born on January 18, 1645, and baptized the next day; and lastly, Angelica, who was named after her maternal grandmother, was born and baptized on March 6, 1647.
It is not known when Antonino and Caterina died, but it is documented that Antonino was deceased and Caterina was alive when their daughter Antonina was married on September 15, 1658. It is also documented that they were both deceased when their son ancestor Calogero was married on January 7, 1685. Unfortunately, burial records for either of them have not been found yet, so this is all that is known about them. |

She was baptized on October 27, 1614, in the St Michele’s church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Michele Bentivegna and his wife Caterina Alesi. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A few months after the contract was issued, church banns were read on November 1st, 6th, and 11th for them to marry. Later that month on November 26, 1639, 18 year-old Francesco married 25 year-old Leonarda at St. Michele's church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Eight St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Leonarda Galluzzo as follows — Maria, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on December 11, 1640, and baptized the next day; Caterina Filippa, named after her maternal grandmother April 24, 1643, and baptized the next day; Rosalia Appolina was born on February 1, 1646, and baptized the next day; Antonino Calogero Accursio, was born on January 19, 1647, and baptized that same day with the middle name of his paternal grandfather’s given name; Accursio was born and baptized on July 4, 1651, as Accursius Joseph; Accursia Benvinutia was born on June 1, 1654, and baptized the next day; Gaetano was born on April 6, 1656, and baptized the next day as Gaetinus Joannius; and Anna Margarita, who was born on August 30, 1659, and baptized the next day. A baptism record for ancestor Angela could not be found.
It is documented that Francesco and Leonarda were alive when their daughter ancestor Angela was married on January 7, 1685. Francesco died and was buried in the Convent of St. Maria di Lillo cemetery in Sciacca on August 19, 1691. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Almost four years later, Leonarda died and was buried on May 23, 1695, in the same cemetery as her husband. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Leonarda wife of the deceased Francesco Galluzzo, 80 years old, which was her correct age. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Vincenzo Nicolò Infantino was baptized as Vino Nico on November 1, 1597, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Costanza and her husband Ambrosio Infantino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
In 1630 on October 13th, 20th and 27th church banns were read for Vincenzo to marry Caterina Benivento. She was baptized on April 11, 1608, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Vito Benivento and his second wife Margarita Rizzuto. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Vincenzo, who was almost 33 years old and 22 year-old Caterina were married on October 28, 1630, the day after the last banns were read at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The only Sciacca baptism record found for their children was for ancestor Antonino.
Ten months after after ancestor Antonino was born, his mother Caterina died and was buried in the St Domenico cemetery on July 27, 1634, possibly giving birth to another child. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her burial record, found in the mother church records, states she was the 28 year-old wife of Vincenzo de Infantino, but she was only 26 years old. Although Vincenzo was left with an infant, another Sciacca marriage record for him cannot be found. He may have remarried someone from another town, but this is only speculation. Just less than 3 ½ years after his wife died, Vincent died and was buried in the St. Vito church cemetery on December 29, 1637. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Vito burial record lists him as being 50 years old, but he was actually just over 40 years old when he died. For now, nothing else is known about them. |

Vito Scarpinato’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On September 11, 1583, Sciacca notary Onofrio Maniscalco filed a notarial marriage contract for Vito and Contissa Scaduto to marry. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on December 23, 1564, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Battista Scaduto and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A week later, on September 18, 1583, Vito and 18 year-old Contissa were married in the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Vito and Contissa Scarpinato. The first in the mother church parish and the others in the St. Michele parish as follows — Angela Benvenuta on May 4, 1584, the only child to be baptized in the mother church; Giovanna was baptized as Joanna on March 17, 1589; Itria Benedetta on September 22, 1591; Pietro as Petro Paulo on May 16, 1594; Calogero Francesco on October 11, 1597; ancestor Antonino; Nicolò was baptized as Nicolao Francesco on February 27, 1602; Grazia was baptized on May 6, 1607, but died at 9 months old on February 6, 1608; and another Grazia, who was baptized on November 9, 1610, and married Antonino Palermo, in 1629, the same day as her brother, ancestor Antonino married her new husband’s sister, ancestor Caterina Palermo.
It is documented that both Vito and Contessa were deceased on February 4, 1629, the date their son ancestor Antonino was married. Contessa died at 62 years old and was buried in the St. Michele's cemetery on the morning of March 25, 1627. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her as Contissa wife of Viti Scarpinato in her sixties. A little over six months later, Vito died at home on the evening of October 4, 1627, and was buried the next day in the same cemetery as his wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Vito burial record lists him as Vitus Scarpinato 60 years old, which puts his birth to about 1567. This age was probably just an estimate as it calculates his age at marriage as 16, which is very unlikely. He was probably much older when he died. This is all that is known about Vito and Contissa.

Michele Palermo was baptized as Nicolao Micheli on in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Silvestro Palermo and his wife Caterinella, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Sometime, in or before 1606, Michele married Angelica, whose ancestry is unknown. A Sciacca church marriage record or marriage contract has not been found for them, but they lived and raised a family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca. They had at least eight children, but only seven Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Micheli and Angelica de Palermo. The first five were baptized in the St. Michele parish and the their last two children were baptized in the mother church parish as follows — Silvestro Accursio, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on December 8, 1606, and may have died young; ancestor Caterina was named after her paternal grandmother; Maria was baptized on May 6, 1611; another Silvestro was baptized as Silvestro Epifanio on January 6, 1613; Antonia on April 15, 1615; Calogero Paulus was born and baptized on February 23, 1622, the first in the mother church parish and married Rosalia Abruzzo, the daughter of ancestors Biaggio Abruzzo and Beatrix Liotta and sister to ancestor Calogera; and Anna Agatha who was born and baptized on January 13, 1625. There was another son, Antonino, whose baptism record has not been found, but he was married on the same date as his sister ancestor Caterina and his marriage record states he was also the son of Michaeli le Panormo.
It is documented that Michele was alive on February 4, 1629, when’s daughter ancestor Caterina was married. On February 20, 1648, Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna filed a Testamento, a will, for Michele Palermo. Three days later on February 23, 1648, Michele was buried in the cemetery of the St. Francisco church outside the city. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Michael de Palermo about 70 years old, but he was actually 71 when he died. It is not known when Angelica died, so for now, this is all that is known about them.

Calogero Galluzzo was baptized on October 1, 1593, in the St. Michele church parish of in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesco Galluzzo and his wife Benvenuta Messina. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Calogero was named after his maternal grandfather.
On May 10, 1620, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano filed a notarial marriage contract between Calogero Galluzo and Maria Scaduto. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on August 21, 1595, in the St. Vito Church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Geronimo Scaduto and his wife Antonina Caternichia. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Twenty-six year-old Calogero and 24 year-old Maria were married in Sciacca at St. Michele’s church on June 7, 1620. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Seven baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero and Maria Galluzzo. Most were found in the St. Michele church records, but two were in other churches as follows — ancestor Francesco, who was named after his paternal grandfather, and was baptized in the St Vito parish; Geronimo, named after his maternal grandfather, was baptized as Hieronimius Vincenzo in the mother church parish on August 17, 1623; Benedetta Vita, the first to be baptized in St. Michele’s church, was born n April 27, 1627, and baptized the next day; Angela Antonia was born on March 31, 1630, and baptized the next day; son Angelo was born and baptized as Angelus Antonus on October 10, 1633, and married Chaterina Bennici on November 11, 1658; Giovanni was born and baptized as Joann Bateisus on December 19, 1635; and Michele, who was born and baptized as Michael Angelus on March 20, 1637.
It is documented that Calogero was alive, but Maria was deceased when their son, ancestor Francesco was married on November 26, 1639. Maria died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on July 17, 1639. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her simply as Maria Galluzzo, 30 years old, but she was actually 43 when she died. Two and a half years later, Calogero died and was buried in the St. Michele church cemetery on January 24, 1642. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His brief St. Michele burial record lists him as Calogerus Galluzzo, age 50, but he was actually only 48 years old when he died. Unfortunately, at this time, this is all that is known about them.

Michele Bentivegna is most likely the son of Angelo and Margarita Bentivegna, who was baptized as Michel Vincenzo on September 28, 1564, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. The reason for the uncertainty is that his mother’s name is not listed on his baptism record. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This means he is also the younger brother to ancestors Leonardo who married Maria Rovello and Filippo who married Margarita Longo.
On February 2, 1602, Sciacca notary, Antonio Buscemi filed a notarial marriage contract for Michele Bentivegna to marry Caterina Alesi. This contract is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro's book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They probably married soon after that date at the St. Michele church, but marriage records available for research do not begin until 1607. There church marriage was not found in the other two Sciacca church records. Because their marriage record could not be found, her ancestry is unknown.
Eight St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Michele and Caterina Bentivegna as follows — Nicolò as Nicolao Angilo on June 5, 1603, named after his paternal grandfather; Margarita on February 6, 1605, named after her paternal grandmother, who married Michele Bennice in Sciacca on April 27, 1620; Antonino as Anton on May 20, 1607, who married Maria Giodano on April 24, 1634; Calogera Silvestra on December 31, 1609; Accursia on May 8, 1612, who married Filippo Savino on the same day as her brother Antonio was married; ancestor Leonarda; Carlo Salvatori on August 6, 1617; and Giuseppe as Joseph Francesco, who was born and baptized on November 29, 1620.
It is not known when Michele and Caterina died. It is documented that Michele was alive when his daughter Margarita married in 1620, but deceased when two of his children, son Antonino and daughter Accursia, married their spouses on the same day, April 24, 1634. It is also documented that Caterina was deceased when ancestor Leonarda was married on November 26, 1639. A search of the St. Michele burial records between these dates did not find a burial record for either of them, but records are missing after August of 1634 up until September of 1637. Unfortunately, at this time, this is all that is know about them. |

Ambrosio Infantino’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On January 26, 1576, he married 19 year-old Caterina Costanza at the mother church there. (Mouse over and click on their very brief Latin church marriage record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized in the mother church parish of Sciacca on December 24, 1556, the daughter of Paolo Costanza and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Three days after Ambrosio and Caterina married, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for them. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Ten Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Ambrozio and Caterina Infantino. The first five and ninth children were baptized in the mother church parish and others in the St. Michele parish as follows — twins Vincenzo and Jacupella were baptized on June 27, 1578; Francesca on August 7, 1579; Giuseppe as Joseppi Micheli on October 19, 1582; Paolo, named after his maternal grandfather, was baptized as Paulo Vito on July 29, 1584; Benedetto Michael on January 30, 1588, the first in the St. Michel parish; another Giuseppe was baptized as Joseppi Cosimo on September 27, 1591; Gilormo Antonino on February 13, 1596; ancestor Vincenzo Nicolò was baptized in the mother church parish; and Paulo Micheli, on December 4, 1599, in the St. Michele parish. Naming two sons Vincenzo may be an indication that it was Ambrosio’s father’s name.
Nothing is known about Caterina’s father Paolo, except he was alive when she married in 1576. It is also not known when Ambrosio died, but he was deceased when their son ancestor Vincenzo Nicolò was married on October 28, 1630. Caterina lived a long life and died and was buried in the Sciacca St. Michele church cemetery on July 30, 1653. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her as Catherina Infantino, about 90, but she was actually 96 years old when she died. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Battista Scaduto’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. It is not known who he married as church marriage records don’t go back this far and a marriage contract could not be found for him. What has been found are six mother church baptism records for the children of Battissa lo Scaduto as follows — Giacomina was baptized as Jacopa Diana on April 22, 1550; Antonino as Antonino Masi Geronimo on June 1, 1553; Giloimo on January 14, 1555; Leonardo as Nardo on March 8, 1557; Luca Petro on October 15, 1560; and ancestor Contessa. On some of these records Battista’s given name is abbreviated to bbta. A mother is not mentioned on any of the records.
There are two entries, one in each volume, of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, for Battista Scaduto, which are most likely for this ancestor. The first is dated September 14, 1555, and is an Agreement between Battista Scaduto and Luna d'un Luogo in Scunchip, that was recorded by Sciacca notary Pietro Falco. Scunchip seems to be or was an area of Sciacca.
The second entry is a Testamento, a will, which was recorded by Sciacca notary Geronimo Agostino on October 17, 1583. (Mouse over and click on the will entry left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Being that it is documented that Battista was alive when his youngest daughter, ancestor Contessa married on September 18, 1583, this entry is probably for ancestor Battista. He most likely died a short time after the will was recorded. Unfortunately, Sciacca burial records for this time are not available for research and a property inventory entry has not been found for his name. For now, this is all that is known about Battista Scaduto.

Silvestro Palermo and his wife Caterinella’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. There are several mentions of Silvestro Palermo in the Sciacca records and they are probably all for the same man, ancestor Silvestro.
There is a Sciacca notarial marriage contract for Silvestro Palermo and Angilella Indelicato filed by notary Pietro Falco on June 8, 1568. Unfortunately, church marriage records don’t go back this far. Angilella was most likely ancestor Silvestro’s first wife. Four Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Silvestro and Angela di Palermo as follows — Tomaso Barnaba was baptized on May 31, 1569; Filippo Vito on July 6, 1571; Gregorio Federico on August 4, 1572, who married Nunzia Amodeo on June 7, 1604; and Antonella, who was baptized on November 3, 1574. No other children have been found for this couple, so it is assumed that Angilella died in either 1574 or 1575. Unfortunately, church burial records don’t go back this far, so it is not possible to confirm this.
Sometime in or prior to 1576, Silvestro married ancestor Caternella, but a church marriage record or a marriage contract could not be found for them. What has been found are two mother church baptisms records for the children of Silvestro and Caterinella di Palermo as follows — ancestor Michele and his brother Francesco, who was baptized on August 1, 1580. They are the only children found in the three church records available for research, so it is assumed that Caterinella died, but again, there is no proof of this.
There is also a Sciacca mother church marriage record for a Silvestro di Palemo and the widow Antonina Giametta, dated August 29, 1581, but on the index record she is listed as Cant’na. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They had one child, a daughter, Accursia, baptized as Cursa Anetta on December 8, 1582, in the Sciacca mother church and married Nicolò diMino in 1604. It is assumed that this is Silvestro’s third marriage, but he is not listed as a widower on this record. There is a notarial marriage contract dated June 26, 1588, for this couple, that was filed by Sciacca notary Martino Russo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Being that it is 7 years after their marriage, it is probably a dowry restitution contract made at the death of Antonina.
On September 13, 1590, Silvestro married Vincenza Mineo, at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They had 5 children together all baptized int the Sciacca St. Michele parish as follows — Maria Antonina on September 8, 1591; Francesco Pietro on October 11, 1595; Calogero Antonino was baptized on February 26, 1598, but died and was buried at 17 years old on October 6, 1615; Grazia Caterina on March 18, 1603; and Maria on March 28, 1607. Again, there is no documentation that supports this, but these dates make a good case that their was only one Silvestro Palermo, the ancestor who married four times.
There are two entries in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Secondo, that are probably for this ancestor. The first is dated May 10, 1588, which seems to be a consent to a transfer of property near the Giummare Monastery to Fontana Calda from Silvestro Palermo. The second is dated December 11, 1607, and is a Sale of Place in Carbone by Silvestro Palermo, to Giuliano Boccone. (Mouse over and click on the sale entry middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Carbone seems to be a section within Sciacca. There is nothing in these entries to confirm that they are for this ancestor, but it is likely that they are for him.
There are two additional entries in Mortillaro’s book mentioned above. The first is in the second volume and it is a Testamento, a will, filed by Sciacca notary Antonino Buscemi on January 21, 1612, for Silvestre Palermo. (Mouse over and click on the will entry middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The second is in volume one and it’s for an inventory of his property filed by the same notary on February 24, 1612. (Mouse over and click on the property inventory entry lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Silvestro died and was buried in the St. Francisco cemetery on January 24, 1612. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His very brief St. Michele burial record lists him simply as Silvestro di Pal’mo, no age given. There is one more entry in the second volume of Mortillaro’s book that is dated after Silvestro’s death, that is of interest. On December 30, 1626, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano file a sale of place in S. Dominica by Vincenza Palermo of Silvestro, to Mr. Benedetto Piluffo subjugated. It seems Silvestro’s fourth wife is selling off land, possibly because she needed the money. For now, this is all that can be found for Silvestro and Caterinella Palermo.

Francesco Galluzzo was baptized as Antonino Francesco, on March 10, 1558, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angelo Galluzzo and his unnamed wife, whose name probably was Joannella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On April 17, 1581, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for Francesco and Benvenuta Messina. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on December 3, 1568, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Calogero Messina and his unnamed wife, who probably is named Margarita. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Twenty-three year old Francesco and 12 year-old Benvenuta were married on April 30, 1581, a few weeks after the contract was filed, at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Only four Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Franco and Benvinuta Galluzo, the first in the mother church parish and the rest in the St. Michele church parish. They are as follows — Filippo Angelo was baptized on March 6, 1588; Angelo, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized as Angelo Stephano Jo, the first in the St. Michele church parish; ancestor Calogero was named after his maternal grandfather; and Lauritia Margarita on August 10, 1596. It should be noted that their first child was baptized almost 7 years after they were married.
It is not known when Francesco died, but it is documented that he was already deceased on January 12, 1615, the date their son Angelo was married. There is an entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, that states an inventory of the property of Francesco Galluzo was filed by Sciacca notary Vito Rizo on September 26, 1597. This could be ancestor Franceso, but Sciacca burial records for this time are not available for research, so it is uncertain. There is also a few other interesting items in this book. There is a marriage contact between Calogero Petrancosta and Benvenuta Messina, dated June 17, 1611. She could be ancestor Benvenuta, but a Sciacca church marriage document can not be found for them, so again, this is uncertain. The name Benvenuta Petrancosta is also mentioned several times about the sale of land in the Carbollaci section of Sciacca to a Calogero Messina in 1614 and 1616. Their relationship is not mentioned, but it could be her father or maybe a cousin. The last interesting entry is a Testamento, a will for Benvenuta Messina filed on March 29 1620, but a burial record in her maiden name could not be found for her. There is however, a burial record for Benvenuta Galluzzo dated October 21, 1624, that could be for ancestor Benvenuta. (Mouse over and click on her possible Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It states she died at home, but does not list her as a widow and the age listed is either 60 in Latin or 70 in Italian, but she was only 55 when she died. If this is ancestor Benvenuta’s burial record she could be the one who wrote her will in 1620, but she’s probably not the person who married Calogero Petrancosta. Until more documentation can be found, this will remain an uncertainty. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them. |

Geronimo Scaduto was baptized on December 1, 1559, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Agostino Scaduto and his wife Caterina Venezia. On at least one record his given name is listed as Ieronymus. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On January 17, 1583, 23 year-old Geronimo married 18 year-old Antonella Caternichia at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Isabella Antonella on July 5, 1564, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonino Caternichia and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On all of the records found, she is listed as Antonella, which means priceless one or praiseworthy, and it’s a diminutive form of Antonia.
Six Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Geronimo and Antonella La Scaduto, all but the first were baptized in the St. Vito parish. They are as follows — Catherina, named after her paternal grandmother was baptized in the mother church parish on December 14, 1583, but probably died young; another Caterina was the first to be baptized in the St. Vito church parish on March 26, 1588; Lauria on May 23, 1591; ancestor Maria; Francesco was baptized as Fran’co Joseppi on June 12, 1600; and Calogero Joseph, who was baptized on August 25, 1602.
Nothing is known about Antonella’s father Antonino, except that he was alive when she was married. It is also not known when Geronimo died, but it is documented that he was deceased when their daughter ancestor Maria married on June 7, 1620. It should be noted that there is an entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s second volume of Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, for a will being filled for Antonella Caternichia. (Mouse over and click on the will entry lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It is dated May 4, 1615, but a burial record around this time period for her name could not be found. With such a unique name, it probably is for ancestor Antonella. It could be that her husband died without a will, and she experienced problems with his estate, so she decided to record her own will. Antonella died at home on the morning of June 5, 1621, and was buried later that day in the mother church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her simply as Antonia Scaduto 50, but she was actually 56 years old when she died. For now, nothing else is known about them. |

Angelo Galluzzo and his wife Joannella’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Six mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Angelo Galluzo. It is not certain that Joannella is the mother of Angelo’s children as her name is not listed on any of the baptism records. Her name comes from their son Giuseppe’s marriage document. The six children were baptized as follows — Brigita on November 21, 1552; Caterina as Catini Calogera on December 28, 1553; another Caterina on September 19, 1556; ancestor Francesco; Giuseppe was baptized as Joseph Maetto on September 22, 1560; and yet another Caterina as Caterina Vincenza on February 21, 1563. Being that three daughters were named Caterina, it was probably a grandmother’s name.
It is not known when Angelo and Joannella died, but there is an entry for a Testamento, in volume two of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, that may be for ancestor Angelo. It is a will being filed by Sciacca notary Giovanna Vella, for d'Angelo Galluzo, dated August 6, 1580. It is not known for certain that this is ancestor Angelo, as burial records for this time are not available for research. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them. |
~< Back to Chart >~ |
Calogero Messina was baptized as Calogero Suprio in November of 1541, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Cola Messina, which is probably short for Nicolò, and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism index upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, there isn’t a register image with details of his baptism. All that exists is this index listing of his baptism.
It is not known for certain who he married, but the last seven of the thirteen baptism records found for the children of Calogero Messina list a wife’s name of Margarita. Her name is also listed on their son Cesaro’s marriage document as his mother. being that Cesaro was born before ancestor Benvenuta, Margarita is probably her mother also. A Sciacca church marriage record or a notarial marriage contract entry could not be found for Calogero and Margarita. The following thirteen children were all baptized in the mother church parish of Sciacca — Cola was named after his paternal grandfather on February 1, 1561; Cesaro Nardo on December 20, 1562 grew up to marry Rosella Gentile on February 12, 1584; Carlo was baptized as Caelo Antonino on June 11, 1564; Giovanni as Joannius on July 10, 1567; ancestor Benvenuta; Calogerella on July 6, 1570; Blasilla, the first to have a mother’s name on her record, was baptized on February 2, 1572; Giovanna was baptized as Jonna on August 7, 1574; Sebastiana was baptized as Bastiana on January 18, 1576, and was contracted to marry Gio. Leonardo Baxu on July 20, 1593; Giacomo was baptized as Jaco on July 16, 1577, and may have died as an infant; Francesco Andria on October 5, 1578; another Giacomo was baptized as Jaco Mattheo on July 25, 1581; and Giovanna, who was baptized as Gio Anne on July 11,1587.
Calogero’s name is mentioned several times in both volumes of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico up to and including 1619. Volume 1 has four entries dating from 1597 to 1616, all pertaining to the sale of property, but what is interesting is that two of these entries mention a Benvenuta Petrancosta, who was the former Benvenuta Messina. Being that Calogero’s first daughter was named Benvenuta, that may have been his mother’s name, so she may be a niece or even his daughter’s second marriage name. Another four entries in volume 2, dating from 1611 to 1619, deal with the sale of land in Sovarito near Mendolito and Carbollaci that Calogero has some kind of control over. (Mouse over and click on the property contract entries left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The fifth entry is Calogero’s Testamento, his will, being filed on July 3, 1575. It is not certain that all of these entries are for the same man and that man is ancestor Calogero, but they all take place within his lifetime.
It is not known when Margarita died, but Calogero died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on March 24, 1620. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him as Calogerus di Messina, 80 years old, died in his home, but he was actually about 78 years old when he died.
For now, nothing else is known about Calogero and Margarita. |

Agostino Scaduto and his wife Caterina Venezia’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On most of the records, Agostino’s given name is spelled Augustino.
In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is a notarial marriage contract for them dated September 29, 1538, issued by Sciacca notary Pietro Falco. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They probably married soon after this contract was filed and are believed to be the parents of ancestor Geronimo.
Of the available Sciacca baptism records, only seven mother church records have been found for the children of Augustino Scaduto as follows — Giovanni Francesco was baptized in March of 1543, but there isn’t a register record for this time, so an exact date isn’t known; Peitro on December 11, 1544; Paola was baptized as Paula on January 25, 1550; Giuglielmo on February 17, 1554; Vincenzo on July 4, 1557; ancestor Geronimo; and Margaritella on December 20, 1562. None of these records list a mother’s name.
Unfortunately, it is not known when Agostino and Caterina died, but in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book mentioned above there is an entry for an inventory of property taken for d'Agostino Scaduto. (Mouse over and click on the property inventory entry left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It was filed by Sciacca notary Antonino Canina on October 25, 1575. Inventories are usually taken just days after the death. Unfortunately, Sciacca burial records are not available for this time period, so nothing more is known about them.

Nicolò Messina’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church baptism, marriage or contract could not be found for him. Only three Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Cola Missina as follows — Angelo was baptized sometime in February of 1539; ancestor Calogero; and a daughter named Filippa Giovanna, who was baptized as Pha Jonna on May 12, 1544. None of these record list a mother’s name. He probably had many other children, but these are the only ones documented in the three Sciacca church records.
His name is mentioned several times in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, all dated on February 11, 1549 and January 13, 1550, all having to do with leasing land and filed by Sciacca notary Petro Falco. (Mouse over and click on the property contract entries right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They seem to say he was giving long leases of land to several different people, one near the monastery of Giummare. Because of the abbreviations, an exact translation is difficult to get. One interesting thing about these entries is that the word Selme/Salma translates to Corpse, which is an ancient unit of measurement, equivalent to 17,462.59 square meters, which was used in the past, especially in Sicily.
There are two Testamento, will, entries for Nicolò Messana in the second volume of this book that could be for ancestor Nicolò. The first is dated July 29, 1547, and was filed by Sciacca notary Bartolo. Modica and the other is dated January 7, 1562, and was filed by Petro Falco, the same notary who filed the land deals mentioned above. (Mouse over and click on the will entries left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Then 33 years later in 1595, there is an entry that reads Excerpt from the Testament of Nicolò Messana was filed by Sciacca notary Vincenzo Palermo. It is not known why the excerpt was needed or if these are all for the same man and if this man is ancestor Nicolò. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about him.
