Gaspare Spanò was baptized as Gasparo on July 30, 1604, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giulia Grado and her husband Bastiano Spanò. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On September 28, 1622, Sciacca notary Gaspare Falsone filed a marriage contract for 18 year-old Gaspare to marry Caterina Benfatto. A little more than a week later, church banns were read on October 9th, 16th and 23rd for their marriage. Six days after the last banns were read, they married on October 29th in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) No baptisms have been found in all three of the Sciacca churches for their children. Just over 5 ½ years after they married, Caterina died at home and was buried on June 9, 1628, in the St. Dominici church cemetery. A month later, Gaspare decided to remarry.
On July 9, 1628, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano filed a marriage contract for Gaspare, who was now almost 24 years old, to marry 19 year-old Francesca Santangelo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on November 9, 1608, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Maria Marinello and her husband Michele Santangelo. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately a Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for them. It should be noted that the only available records for this time period are for the mother church, so they may have married in one of the other churches. They are the parents of two female ancestors.
Ten Sciacca St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Gasparo and Francisca Spano as follows — Sebastiano, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was born on the evening of November 22, 1629, baptized as Calogerus Bastianus the next day, and as Sebastiano married Accursia Feminella on September 27, 1654; Giulia, given a middle name after her paternal grandmother, was born on the evening of September 2, 1631, baptized as Rosales Julia the next day, and as Giulia married Pellegrino Feminella, the brother of Accursia, mentioned above, on the same day as her brother Sebastiano married, probably in a double wedding; ancestor Grazia; Calogero was born and baptized as Calogero Fran’co on December 2, 1635; ancestor Caterina; Giuseppe was born on October 14, 1640, and was baptized as Joseph Cosma, but his father is listed as Pasquale, most likely in error; Calogero was born and baptized as Calogerius Accursius on July 30, 1643; Michele was born on December 30, 1645, baptized as Michael Dominicius Silvester the next day, and married Margarita, the daughter of ancestors Giovanni and Giovanna Tornetta, who are grandparents of ancestor Francesco Tornetta; Vincenza was born on June 26, 1649, and baptized as Vin’ca Honofria the next day; and lastly Giuseppa, who was born and baptized as Josepha Desata on September 24, 1651
It is documented that Gaspare was deceased, but Francesca was alive in late September of 1654, when their son Calogero was married. Gaspare died and was buried in the Sciacca St. Michele church cemetery on February 12, 1652. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him as, Gaspar Spanò about 46 years old, but he was actually 47 years old when he died. His death left Francesca with several young children. It is not known if she married again or when she died, but it is documented that she was still alive when her son Michele was married in early September of 1675. For now, this is all that is known about them. |

Bastiano Spanò was baptized as Bastiano Federico on January 10, 1576, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the only known child of Giovanna Vitrano and her husband Antonino Spanò. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On January 11th, 17th and 19th of 1597, church banns were read for Bastiano to marry Giulia Grado. She was the daughter of Gurlicia Rosa and her husband Nardo Grado. Unfortunately a Sciacca baptism record could not be found for her in the available records. A day after the last banns were read, 21 year-old Bastiano and Julia were married in the Sciacca mother church on January 20, 1597. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Bastiano and Giulia Spanò, 7 in the mother church parish and the 6th and 7th child in the St. Vito parish, as follows — Antonino Filippo, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on December 10, 1597; Maria Margarita was baptized on February 6, 1600; Battistina Petra on October 11, 1601; ancestor Gaspare; Melchiore was baptized on July 19, 1607, and married twice in the St. Vito church; Battistina Joanna was baptized on July 29, 1610; Baldassarro on May 3, 1612; Vito was baptized on September 8, 1613, but died and was buried on August 6, 1615, a month before his 2nd birthday; and lastly Antonino, who was born on the evening of November 20, 1620, and baptized as Antonius the next day.
Less than two years after her last child was born, Giulia died in her home in the middle of the night on September 16, 1622, and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Michele burial record simply lists her as, Julia Spano 40 years old, which puts her birth to about 1582, but she was probably a few years older than that. It doesn’t state she was the wife of Bastiano, but her name is unique enough to confirm this is the ancestor. This left Bastiano with several young children.
It is not know for certain if Bastiano married again, but there are two possibilities, one or both could be for him, but neither list him as a widower or list his parents. The first is about 2 months after his wife died, which seems to be a good possibility that this is ancestor Bastiano, as he probably needed someone to take care of the young children. Church banns were read on November 6th, 11th and 13th of 1622, for Sebastiana Spano and Jacoba Abbati. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin church marriage record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They married the day after the last banns were read in the St. Michele church on November 14, 1622. Nine days later, on November 23rd, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano filed a marriage contract for Sebastiano Spanò, and Giacoma Abate. They had one child together named Giuseppe who was born on September 22, 1623, and baptized in the St. Michele parish as Josep the next day. There are no other children for this couple, so she may have died, but a burial record could not be found for her.
The other possible marriage takes place just 3 years after Giuseppe was born. Church banns were read on June 29th, July 5th and 12th of 1626, for Sebastiano Spano and Joanna relict of the deceased Matthei Bennici. (Mouse over and click on his other possible Latin church marriage record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They married on July 24, 1626, also in the St. Michele church. They had two children together, both baptized in the St. Michele parish as follows — Rosalea Jacoba, was born and baptized on June 9, 1627, whose father is listed as Bastianaius; and Jacoba Calogera, who was born and baptized on May 4, 1629. It is interesting that both of these daughters were named Jacoba, the same name as wife two.
Four months after the last child was born, there is a St. Michele burial record for his name dated September 17, 1629. It basically states that Sebastianus Spanò 60 years old died in his home, and was buried in the St. Francesco de Paola Church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Ancestor Bastiano would have been 53 at this time, but it is a very good possibility that this is for him. Until more documentation can be found, this is all that is known about them.

Michele Santangelo was baptized as Micheli Jo: on March 4, 1582, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Fanuza Mazotta and her husband Francesco Santangelo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On September 24th, 29th and October 1st, church banns were read for Michele to marry Maria Marinello. She was baptized on August 28, 1585, also in the mother church parish, the daughter of Fionilla Migliore and her husband Geronimo, whose surname is listed as di Imburli and Marinello. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Maria’s baptism record was listed under Imburli and Marinello in the I index. Eighteen year-old Michele and fifteen year-old Maria were married, in the Sciacca mother church on October 4, 1600, a few days after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A little over one year later, just three days before their first child was born, Sciacca notary Antonio Buscemi filed a marriage contract for them on January 14, 1602. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Five Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of master Michele and Maria Santangelo, the first two in the St. Michele parish and the others in the mother church parish as follows — Antonia was baptized on January 17, 1602; Gasparo on March 29, 1603; Baldassaro was baptized on August 27, 1604, the first in the mother church parish, and married Margarita Scarpinato in 1625; Melchiore was baptized as Mirsione Gioanne on August 21, 1607, but died at 2 months old and was buried on October 25, 1607; and lastly ancestor Francesca.
It should be noted that there were several Michele Santangelo’s living in Sciacca about the same time. For example, one was married to Leonarda, another to Caterina and then there is our ancestor. Unless a wife’s name is on a burial record it’s impossible to know which Michele died. This is also true for the marriage and burial records for the children of Michele. On both Melchiore’s burial record and Baldassare’s marriage record, mentioned above, only the father’s name is listed. Because we know for a fact that ancestors Michele and Maria had children with these names, it is most likely that these two records are for the children of the ancestors. On Baldassare’s July 14, 1625, marriage record his father is listed as the deceased master Michaeli Sanatangelo. Unfortunately, the only burial record found for master Michael Sanatangelo in the three available church records is dated June 11, 1629. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This record does not list his wife, his age or any other identifying information. Is this burial record for the ancestor and Baldassare’s marriage record is in error, or for another Baldassare. Or is this burial record for another man named Michael Sanatangelo? A burial record for Maria has not been found, so their burials will remain a mystery.

Antonino Spanò is probably the child who was baptized as Antonino Micheli on June 27, 1545, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Pietro Spanò and his unnamed wife, whose name may be Alojsia. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On March 6, 1575, Sciacca notary Antonino Canina filed a marriage contract for Antonino to marry Giovanna Vitrano. On this entry she is listed as Joannella Vetrano. She was the daughter of Antonino Vitrano and his unnamed wife. Unfortunately a Sciacca baptism record for Giovanna could not be found. The Vitrano’s may have come from another town. The only fact known about her father is that he was deceased when she married. Twenty-nine year-old Ant'no Spanò married Joanella lo Vitrano, who was probably a teenager, on April 2, 1575, in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their brief Latin church marriage record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It should be noted that Antonino’s father is not listed on their marriage record.
Because only one Sciacca baptism record could be found for their children, ancestor Bastiano, it is possible that Antonino was previously married, as his son wasn’t named after his father. Although no other baptism records have been found for their children, it is possible that they had other children baptized in one of the other Sciacca churches whose records don’t begin until the late 1580’s.
It is not known when Antonino and Giovanna died, but it is documented that they were deceased on January 20, 1597, the date their son ancestor Bastiano was married. A burial record can not be found for them as Sciacca burial records don’t begin until 1606. Even though much of the above may be uncertain, it is all that is known about them. |
| ~<^>~ |
Nardo Grado was baptized as Bernardo on April 3, 1548, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the only known son of master Vincenzo Grado and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On February 21, 1574, Nardo married Gurlicia Rosa at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Sebastiana Gurlizia on May 19, 1559, also in the Sciacca mother church, the daughter of Antonino Rosa and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On some records her given name is spelled Gurlitia. Five days after the church marriage, Sciacca notary Giacomo Janchino issued a marriage contract for Leonardo Grado and Gloricia Raja. (The transcriber probably thought Nardo was an abbreviation for Leonardo, not Bernardo and took the “s” in Rosa for a “j”.) (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Nothing is known about Gurlicia’s father Antonino, except that he was alive when she married. It should be noted that there were several men with the name Antonino Rosa that were living and having children in Sciacca at the same time. There was an Antonino Rosa who was contracted marry Andreana Perollo in 1538, and one who wrote his will on October 27, 1574. But it is impossible to know which one was Gurlicia’s father without more documentation.
Only three Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Nardo and Gurlitia di Grado as follows — Lauria was baptized on January 30, 1579, almost 5 years after her parents married; Vito Ambroxo on December 7, 1580; and Antonino, who was baptized as Ant’no on July 17, 1582, and on January 18, 1608, married Angela Verde in the St. Vito church. A baptism record for their daughter ancestor Giulia has not been found. She probably was born in the 5 year gap, after her parents married and before Lauria was born, most likely in another Sciacca parish, whose records don’t go back that far.
It is not known when or where Nardo and Gurlicia died, but they were both listed as being alive on their daughter, ancestor Giulia’s January 20, 1597, church marriage record. Until more documents can be found, this is all that is known about them. |

Francesco Santangelo ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On October 20, 1551, Sciacca notary Fiderico Bonachia filed a marriage contract for Francesco Santangelo and Antonella Cardilluza. Because a baptism record could not be found for Francesco and Sciacca church marriage records don’t go back this far, it is impossible to know if this contract was for ancestor Francesco. No Sciacca baptism records for their children have been found, so Antonella may have died in childbirth and Francesco needed someone to take care of his household.
This same Sciacca notary, Fiderico Bonachia, filed another marriage contract on February 3, 1555, for Francesco Santangelo and Tufani Mazotta. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It is believed Tufani was Fanuza Mazotta, who had just turned 11 years old, less than a month before this contract. She was baptized as Rosa Tufania on January 6, 1544, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Cola Mazotta and his unnamed wife, who is probably Antonella Monaco. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, Sciacca church marriage records begin in 1568. On one of her children’s baptism records her name is spelled Fana.
Eleven Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco Santangelo, and only the last four list a mother’s name. The records begin five years after the contract was issued and are as follows — Bartolomeo was baptized on August 24, 1560; Vincenzo was baptized as Vinc’zo Pascali on May 17, 1562; Gaspare was baptized as Gasparo Caloiaro on May 22, 1564; Vito as Vito Jo: on November 29, 1565; Milia Julilla on November 2, 1567; Cola Paolo on February 12, 1571; Luca Baldassa on October 18, 1572; Francesco, the first to have his mother’s name listed on the record, was baptized as Franc’o on June 21, 1574; Bastiana on November 18, 1575; Micheli was baptized on February 20, 1579, but probably died young; and lastly ancestor Michele. The reason that five years passed between the marriage contract and their first child being baptized could be because she was so young when the contract was issued, that they waited a few years before the church marriage. It is not known when Francesco died, but in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an inventory entry filed by Sciacca notary Onofrio Maniscalco for Francesco Santangelo dated April 26, 1583. (Mouse over and click on the property inventory entry lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This very well may be for ancestor Francesco. Thirty-eight years later, there is a burial record for 70 year-old Fana Santangelo, who died in her home on the morning of February 10, 1622, and was buried that same day in the St. Francesco church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Although she is not listed as his wife on the mother church burial record, this could be ancestor Fanuza, as she would have been 78 at this time. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Geronimo Marinello is probably the Gilormo Ant’no who was baptized on March 15, 1550, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Laurea Consiglio and her husband Nicolò Marinello. (Mouse over and click on his probable Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Geronimo is the Italian form of Latin Hieronymus, meaning holy name, and is sometimes translated to Girolamo. There are two links that connect Geronimo as the son of Nicolò. The first is the surname being listed as Imburli and Marinello and vice versa, on both Geronimo’s and Nicolò’s children’s baptism records. The second link is on Geronimo’s first child’s baptism record the parents are listed as Geronimo and Fiori Marinello Imburli di Cola.
There are two mother church marriage records dated a month apart, that could be for ancestor Geronimo, but neither lists his father’s name and both are with the same bride. The first is dated April 11 , 1576, and it might be the first day the banns were read. (Mouse over and click on the April Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) This lists the bride as Joannella, relict of the deceased Fran’co Auchello. The second is dated May 8 , 1576, and lists the bride as Joannella, relict of the deceased Francesco Uchello. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) In-between this two dates on April 12, 1576, Sciacca notary Benedetto Baccimeo issued a marriage contract between Geronimo L’Imburli and Joannella Giametta, which is probably her maiden name. (Mouse over and click on the marriage contract entry upper middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) There are no Sciacca baptism records for their children. It should be noted that the the only reason this could be for ancestor Geronimo is the dates. Burial records don’t go back this far, so it is impossible to know for sure.
On April 30, 1582, thirty-two year old Ger’mo la Inburli alias Marinello married 14 year old Fiorella Migliore in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record lower middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Xurilla on September 4, 1567, also in the Sciacca mother church, the daughter of Francesco Migliore and his unnamed wife who may be Casandra. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record lower middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Ger’mo and Fiora Marinello. On these records her given name has been listed as Fiori, Fiore, Fiora, Xurilla and Fiorilla. Their surname was listed as Imburli and Marinello, Marinello Imburli, li Imburli, Imburli alias Marinello, Imburli alias Marinello and the last two as plain Marinello. The records found are as follows — Antonino was baptized as Ant’no on June 19, 1583; ancestor Maria; Giuseppe was baptized as Gioseppe Antonino on October 19, 1590; Lauria Nuncia, named after her paternal grandmother, was baptized on March 11, 1592; Twins Giovanna and Giovanni were baptized as Joanna and Joanno respectively on August 13, 1596; Leonora on October 14, 1597; Desiata on December 17, 1600; and Cosimo, who was baptized as Cosmo Fran’co on September 27, 1604. There is also a Sciacca mother church marriage record for Caloiara daughter of Ger’mo Marinello, who married Vito lo Bellitto on April 27, 1609. She could have been born in between 1685 and 1590, in the 5 year gap after their second but before their third child.
Geronimo died in his home in the middle of the night and was buried in the mother church cemetery on February 2, 1621. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Hieronimius Marinello, 70, which was his correct age. Fiorella lived another 15+ years and didn’t remarry. She died and was buried in the St. Agustini Church cemetery on October 8, 1636. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Vito burial record lists her as Xuri Marinello 74 years old, but she was only 69 when she died. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Pietro Spanò and his wife Alojsia are probably the parents of ancestor Antonino. Their ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. The only document found for this couple is a marriage contract entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. On December 13, 1534, Sciacca notary Pietro Rocca filed the contract between Pietro Spanò and Alojsia ***. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It seems the transcriber of this record could not read her surname. This date is too early for church marriage records, which is why their ancestries are unknown.
Seven Sciacca mother church records have been found for the children of Petro Spano. None list a mother’s name and the first three are only index entries and do not have detailed register records. The records found are as follows — Biaggio was baptized as Blasi Salvaturi in February of 1536; Georgi Salvaturi was baptized in April of 1537; Antonina was baptized as Ant’na in September of 1538; Salvatore Bastiano was baptized on January 20, 1544; ancestor Antonino; Angilella on March 26, 1548; and Antonella, who was baptized as Ant’lla on January 17, 1558.
Unfortunately, it is not known when Pietro and Alojsia died, so for now, this is all that is known about them. |
| ~< Back to Chart >~ |
Cola Mazotta's ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. It is assumed he married Antonella Monaco because of a marriage contract entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, for Nicolò Mazetta and Antonella Monaco, which was filed by Sciacca notary Pietro Falco on August 10, 1541. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, church marriage records don’t go back this far. The only documented fact is that Cola was ancestor Fanuza father. It is assumed that Antonella was her mother because of the date of the contract.
Eleven Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Cola Mazotta. None list a mothers name and the first child’s record is only an index, as detail register records begin in 1543. The records found are as follows — Giovanni was baptized as Jo: Jacopu in late December of 1542; ancestor Fanuza; Galicia Caterini on March 6, 1547; Giacoma was baptized as Jac’a Lauria on July 26, 1551; Angliella on January 9, 1553; Angelica Margarita Consula on October 25, 1553; Margarita on November 12, 1554; Giuseppe was baptized as Joseppi Calogero on March 8, 1557; Pietro was baptized as Petro Jobans on February 8, 1561; Pernuza on July 18, 1563; and Paolo, who was baptized as Pauluzo Minihello on May 2, 1567.
It is not known when Cola and Antonella died, so for now, this is all that is known about them. |
| ~<^>~ |
Nicolò Marinello and his wife Laurea Consiglio are assumed to be the parents of ancestor Geronimo. Their ancestries are unknown, but they married and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy.
On April 10, 1547, Sciacca notary Bartolomeo Modica filed a marriage contract for Nicolò Imburli and Laurea Consiglio. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, church marriage records don’t go back this far. Because their son Filippo was listed as Imburli alias Marinello on his baptism record, and he was listed as Imburli on his marriage contract, but Marinello on his church marriage record, it is assumed Nicolò Marinello and Nicolò Imbruli are the same person.
Eight Sciacca mother church records have been found for the children of Cola Imburli or Cola Marinello, but none list a mothers name. These records are as follows — Giovanni was baptized as Jo: Jacupo la Imburli on January 16, 1548, and may have died young; ancestor Geronimo; Joannella Marinello was baptized on December 1, 1552, and married in 1571; Vito was baptized as Vito Jac’o Imburli on October 7, 1554; Filippo was baptized as Pho Ant’ni Imburli alias Marinello on February 10, 1557, and married Anna Rosa on April 21, 1577; another Giovanni was baptized as Jo: Ja’co Simuni la Imburli on December 30, 1558; Francesco was baptized as Fran’co Antonuzo Marinello on May 25, 1561, and as Fran’co li Imburli married Mattia La Dayna on May 13, 1581; and Giuseppe, who was baptized as Joseppi Ant’no Marinello on June 21, 1565, and on September 20, 1593, married Bastiana, the daughter of ancestors Matteo and Caterina Maniscalco. It should be noted that on the male marriages listed above, none list the parents names, but the Imburli alias Marinello surname is carried down to their children.
It is not known when Nicolò and Laurea died, but he is not listed as being deceased on November 11, 1571, the date his daughter Joannella was married. Until more documentation can be found, this is all that is known about them. |
| ~< Back to Chart >~ |
Francesco Migliore’s ancestry is uncertain. He may be the Fran’co Ant’no Jacopo, who was baptized in mid February of 1537, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonino Migliore. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin baptism index record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately there is no documentation that supports this except for a one line baptism index record, as register records do not exist this far back.
Sometime before or in early 1567, Francesco married Casandra, whose surname is unknown. A marriage contract could not be found for them and church marriage records don’t being until 1568, so her ancestry is unknown. What has been found are four Sciacca mother church baptism records for the children of Fran’co di Migliori and only the last two list the mother as Casandra. Because a marriage date is unknown, it is uncertain that she is the mother of ancestor Fiorella, but it is likely she is. The four baptism records found are as follows — ancestor Fiorella; Nardula was baptized on May 30, 1570; Giuseppe was baptized as Joseppi Petro on December 16, 1572; and Pietro, who was baptized as Petro Jo: on May 16, 1574. Being that there are no other children after 1574, it may be that Casandra died and Francesco remarried. This cannot be confirmed because burial records don’t go back this far.
Francesco may be the same man as the other ancestor Francesco Migliore who married Bartololilla. There is no proof of this as he is not called a widow when he married Bartololilla. The only facts that connect them are the dates—Casandra’s last child in 1574 and the marriage to Bartololilla in 1576. Another thing is the fact that Bartololilla only had two or possibly three children with Francisco. Until more documentation can be found this too will remain a mystery. |
