Ettore Caracappa was born on October 28, 1704, and baptized the next day as Ettor Antoninus in the St. Michele parish in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Termini and her husband Nicolò Caracappa. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) He was named after his mother’s father, making him a second son. In English his name translates to Hector.
On September 10th, 17th and 21st church banns were read in Sciacca for Ettore to marry Giovanna Interrante. She was born and baptized as Joanna Caterina on January 11, 1717, at the mother church in Sciacca, the daughter of Francesca Rizzuto and her husband Mario Interrante. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Twenty-five year-old Ettore and 13 year-old Giovanna were married at the mother church in Sciacca on October 15, 1730. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Six mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Hetore and Joanna Caracappa as follows — Caterina Joanna, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on December 28, 1731, was baptized by the midwife because of imminent danger of death and died the next day; ancestor Caterina; Nicolò, named after his paternal grandfather was born and baptized as Nicolaus Pergrinus on August 27, 1737; Francesca Maria, named after her maternal grandmother was born and baptized on the morning of January 31, 1741; Maria Simona was born and baptized on the morning of October 28, 1743, and died 5 months later on April 13, 1744; and Maria Anna, who was born on the morning of May 25, 1745. On all of these records Ettore’s name was written differently, Ettous, Hetore, Hestore, Hettere, Ettaro and Ettore.
There is a 1747 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for this familythat is dated April 10 1747. (Mouse over and click on their 1747 Rivelo image lower left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) It lists his parent’s names and states they are both deceased. It gives Ettore’s age as 40, which calculates his birth year to 1707, only a few years off of his actual age of 42. Next it lists his wife Giovanna’s given name and their three children — Francesca, Maria and their first born son Nicolò. What is odd is that their son’s age isn’t recorded, and his name is squeezed into the record. Ancestor Caterina is not on this record, because she was already married and out of the house. Their are some lines written under the Beni Stabili section, which are non-moveable possessions, like a house, etc., but some are crossed off.
It is documented that Ettre and Giovanna were both alive when their daughter, ancestor Caterina, was married on January 15, 1747, and three months later when the tax record was recorded. Three years later, Ettore died and was buried on August 29, 1750, in the Convent of St Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial church record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Hector Caracappa, about 57 years old, but he was only 45 years old. It is not known if Giovanna remarried or when she died, but she was alive when on April 10 1747, when the above mentioned tax record was recorded. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Nicolò Caracappa was baptized as Antonino Nicolò Ignazio, on December 6, 1675, in the St Michele parish in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Anna Mandracchia and her husband Pietro Caracappa. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Church banns were read in Sciacca on October 19th, 26th and 28th of 1698 for Nicolò to marry Caterina Termini. She was born and baptized as Vincenzia Catherina Antonia on November 4, 1681, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Ettore Termini and his wife Calogera Savasta. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Nicolò, who was almost 23 years old, and Caterina, who had just turned 17 years old, were married in Sciacca at the St Michele church on November 9, 1698. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca baptism records have been found, for the children of Nicolas and Catherina Caracappa. The first six in the St. Michele parish and the last three in the mother church parish as follows — Anna Maria Francesca, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on August 26, 1699, and baptized the next day; Pietro, named after his paternal grandfather was born on August 13, 1701, and baptized as Petris Onofrius, the next day; ancestor Ettore; Antonino was born and baptized as Antonius Rosarius on October 2, 1707; Calogero was born and baptized as Calogeius Gaspar, on the evening of March 26, 1711, and died at 3 years old on October 6, 1714; Giovanni was born and baptized as Joannes on March 31, 1712, but died three days later on April 3, 1712; Onofrio was born on January 11, 1714, and baptized as Honuphnius Calogerius three days later; Calogero was born and baptized as Calogerus Joachim, on the evening of December 23, 1715; and more than seven years later, Michele was born on the morning of April 18, 1723, and baptized as Michael Angelius Hyeronimus that same day.
It is documented that Nicolò was deceased and Caterina was alive when their son ancestor Ettore was married on October 15, 1730. Nicolò died at home and was buried in the St. Michael the Archangel church cemetery on July 21, 1727. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Nicolaus Caracappa about 40 years old, but he was actually 51 when he died. It is also documented that Caterina was deceased on April 10 1747, the date of Ettore’s tax record. She died at home 14 years after her husband’s death and never remarried. She was buried in the church Convent of St. Dominici on November 21, 1741, just 17 days after her 60th birthday. Mario Interrante was born on the morning of May 3, 1682, and baptized that same day as Marius Honufurius Leonardus, in the St. Michele parish in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giovanna, whose surname is unknown and her husband Michele Interrante. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Church banns were read in Sciacca on August 22nd, 24th and 29th for Mario to marry Francesca Rizzuto. She was born in Sciacca on April 1, 1694, and baptized the next day in the St. Vito parish as Francesca Hieronima, the daughter of Vito Rizzuto and his wife Vita Aucello. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Twenty-four year old Mario and 12 year-old Francesca were married at the mother church in Sciacca on September 19, 1706. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) On their marriage record his parents are listed with an alias of Pezzo di Oro, which translates to Piece of Gold.
Fourteen children are documented for Mario and Francisca Interrante, one by a burial record, two by St Vito’s baptism records and eleven by mother church baptism records. Their first child was a son named Giovanni who apparently was stillborn, as a baptism record can not be found for him, just a mother church burial record dated September 3, 1708, for Joannes son of Mario and Francesca Interrante, one day old. The next two children were baptized in the St. Vito’s parish as follows — Michele, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on January 29, 1710, baptized a few days later on February 1st as Michael Gabriel Joseph and married Rosa Zito in 1735; and Vito, named after his maternal grandfather was born and baptized as Vitus Francisus on November 17, 1712, but he died at 2 years old and was buried on June 30, 1715. The eleven children baptized in the mother church parish are as follows— another Vito was born and baptized as Vitus Antoninus on the evening of February 13, 1716; ancestor Giovanna; Vita Andriana, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on November 30, 1719, baptized the next day, and married Calogero Zito on the same day as her brother Michele married Calogero’s sister, Rosa mentioned above; Calogero was born and baptized as Calogerus Crispinus Xaverius, on October 25, 1722, and married Francesca Cusumano in 1754; Ignazio was born and baptized as Ignazius Frances Xauegius Joseph on the morning of August 13, 1725; Maria was born and baptized as Maria Josepha Lucia on the evening of December 11, 1727; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Vincenius on March 2, 1729; Antonino was born on the morning of November 14, 1730, baptized as Ant’n Joseph Vincenius that same day, and married Maria Santangelo on January 22, 1758; Anna Maria was born and baptized on the evening of October 26, 1733; Vito was born on April 19, 1736, and baptized as Vitus Joseph the next day; and Vincenzo, who was born on April 7, 1738, and baptized the next day as Vincencus Paschalius. It is documented that both Mario and Francesca were alive on November 26, 1735, when their son Michele was married, but deceased on February 3, 1754, when their son Calogero was married. Francesca died and was buried in the Convent of St Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery in Sciacca on June 28, 1746. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Francisca, wife of Mario Interrante and states her correct age of 52. Less than two years later, Mario died in his home and was buried in the Convent of St Francesco cemetery in Sciacca on January 22, 1748. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record states his age as 71, but he was actually only 65. At this time, nothing else is known about them.

Pietro Caracappa was born and baptized as Petrus Liberalis Joseph on January 14, 1652, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. He was one of three known children born to Hieronymus (Geronimo) Caracappa and his wife Rosalia Santangelo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
On January 3rd, 6th and 10th of 1672, church banns were read for Pietro to marry Anna Mandracchia. She was born and baptized as Anna Maria Angela on May 7, 1657, also in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Dominico Mandracchia and Maria Imbornone. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Pietro and Anna, who were both 20 years old, were married at the mother church in Sciacca on January 17, 1672. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.)
Pietro and Anna had at least six children all baptized in Sciacca on the dates shown, but at different churches — daughter Filippa was baptized as Philippa Bernidina at St. Michele church on November 14, 1672, just 11 months after her parents married; Rosalia Teresa, named after her paternal grandmother, was baptized at the mother church on February 15, 1674; ancestor Nicolò in 1675; Domenico Francesco Philippo, named after his maternal grandfather, was baptized at the mother church on July 3, 1676; Hieronymus Bartholomeo Francesco, named after his paternal grandfather was baptized at the mother church on August 23, 1682; and lastly Luciano, born on February 15, 1688, baptized at the mother church the next day as Lucianus Antoninus Francesco, and married ancestor Elisabetta Leo, as her second husband. It is unusual that they did not follow the Italian naming convention, but they did cover most of their parents names. No other children were baptized in the three Sciacca churches for them between 1682 and 1688. It should be noted that on Nicolò’s marriage document his parents are listed as Pietro and Anna Caracappe è Pasella. What that means is unknown (see this marriage document in Nicolò’s bio).
There is a 1683 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for this family. (Mouse over and click on the 1683 Rivelo image middle left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) It lists Master Pietro Caracappa as the 30 years old head of the family and on the top right, his father as Geronimo. His wife’s name is listed incorrectly as Rosa, which is Pietro's mother’s given name, so this may just be an error on the recorders part. Only three children are listed with them, 6 year-old Dominico, a daughter Rosa, and 1 year-old Bartholo. Why their two other children, Filippa and ancestor Nicolò are not listed with them is unknown.
It is documented that Pietro was deceased when their son ancestor Nicolò was married on November 9, 1698. Pietro died just 4 months before his son’s marriage. He was buried in the cemetery of the Convent of St. Francisci outside the city on July 6, 1698. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Master Petrus Caracapppa about 43 years old, but he was actually 46 when he died. It is also documented that Anna was still alive when their son Luciano married on April 25, 1712. Anna died and was buried in the same cemetery as her husband, on June 27, 1723. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Anna wife of deceased Master Petri Caracappa, 65 years old, which is only 1 year off of her actual age of 66. At this time, this is all that is known about them.

Ettore Termini was probably born about 1663 in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Puccio and her husband Giuseppe Termini, but a Sciacca baptism record could not be found for him. On some records his name is listed as Hectore and Hettore.
On September 15th, 21st and 22nd of 1680, church banns were read for Ettore to marry Calogera Savasta. She was a twin, born on the evening of November 29, 1659, and baptized as Calogera Joanna the next day in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Vincenza Bellitto and her husband Leonardo Savasta. Two weeks after the last banns were read Ettore, who was about 17 years old and 20 year-old Calogera were married at the Sciacca mother church on October 6, 1680. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Note that he is listed as Ettor Joseph on the marriage record.
Six Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Ettore and Calogera Termini. The first and fifth were born in the mother church parish, the second child in the St. Vito parish and the third, fourth and six were baptized in the St. Michele parish as follows — ancestor Caterina was named after her paternal grandmother; Vincenza Francisca, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on September 9, 1684, and baptized the next day; Giuseppe, named after both of his grandfathers was born and baptized as Joseph Leonardus on the evening of January 29, 1688; Michele was born on the morning of December 18, 1691, baptized as Michael Angelus Onuphius the next day, and in 1722, married Francisca Farina; Raffael was born on June 16, 1694, baptized as Raphael Michel Ignazius the next day, and married Rosa d’ Abbeni in 1718; and Anna Maria Francesca, who was born and baptized on the evening of May 26, 1700.
There is a 1714 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) index entry for an Ettore Termini, but the detailed record is not available to view. It most likely is for this ancestor, as it seems they both were alive at this time. It is documented that Ettore was deceased and Calogera was alive on April 25, 1718, the day their son Raffael was married. Ettore died and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery on September 17, 1717. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Ettor Termine about 50 years old, but he was probably a bit older than that.It is also documented that Calogera was alive on September 13, 1722, the date her son Michele Angelo was married. Calogera lived more than 23 years after her husband died and she didn’t remarry. She died and was buried in the St. Dominici convent church cemetery on February 15, 1741. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Calogera wife of deceased Hettori Termine. 62 years old, but she was actually 81 when she died. She must have looked much younger than her age! For now, this is all that is known about them.

Michele Interrante was born on the evening of November 26, 1629, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. He was baptized the next day as Michael Angelus, the son of Filippa Gigante and her husband Leonardo Interrante. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Michele is also the brother of ancestor Vito Interrante who married Francisca Ginga.
Sometime prior to 1664, he married Giovanna Indelicato. She was born and baptized as Joanna Margarita on July 14, 1646, also in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonino Indelicato and his wife Calogera Bivona. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) He would have been no more than 34 years old and she no more than 17 years old when they married.
Eight St. Michele parish baptism records were found for the children of Michaele and Joanna Interrante as follows — Filippa, named after her paternal grandmother, was born and baptized as Philippa Catherina on the morning of April 15, 1664, and probably died young; Leonardo, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on January 25, 1667, and baptized the next day as Leonardus Marius; daughter Anna Maria was born on January 10, 1670, baptized the next day, and in 1682, married Silvestro Greco; another Filippa was born on October 19, 1672, and baptized the next day as Philippa Vincenza; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Ignazio on the morning of November 12, 1674, and married Maria Antonia Chiarello, the sister to ancestor Angela who married Calogero Imbornone; Francesco was born and baptized as Francesco Ignazio Leonardo on the evening of August 23, 1677, and in 1706, the same day that ancestor Mario was married, Francesco married Leonarda Leggio; Paola was born and baptized as Paula Angela on the evening of November 13, 1680; and lastly ancestor Mario. There is also another child, probably born about 1660, in the St. Michele marriage records—Calogero Interranti son of Michaeli and Joanna married Maria Indelicato on April 19, 1682. Unfortunately, a Sciacca baptism record could not be found for him.
It is documented that both Michele and Giovanna were alive on June 14, 1682, when their daughter Anna Maria was married. It is also documented that Michele was deceased and Giovanna was still alive when their two sons, ancestor Mario and Francesco were married on September 19, 1706. Michele died and was buried in the Convent of St. Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery on June 17, 1699. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Michael Interranti alias alias Pezzo d’Oro about: 73 years old, but he was only 69 years old when he died.
When Giovanna was 59 and a half years old, on February 1st, 2nd and 7th of 1706 church banns were read for Joanna Indelicato, relict of the deceased Michaeli Interrante to marry the widower Vito Craparo. The day after the last banns were read Giovanna and Vito married on February 8, 1706, in the Sciacca St. Michele church. Twelve years later Giovanna died and was buried in the Convent of St. Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery on April 19, 1718. Her mother church burial record lists her as Joanna Craparo wife of the deceased Viti Craparo about 70 years old. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She was actually 3 months short of 72 years old when she died. At this time, nothing else is known about them.

A year and three months later 66 year-old Vito married 31 year-old Anna Cusumano on September 12, 1730, at the mother church in Sciacca. Vito and Anna had three more children together, all born and baptized in the Sciacca mother church parish as follows — Vita, possibly named after his first wife, was born on June 30, 1731, and baptized as Vita Honuphria the next day; Francesco was born on the morning of August 30, 1733, and baptized as Francisus Joseph that same day; and Stefano, who was born and baptized as Stephennus Franciscus on the evening of April 9, 1736. Seven years later, Leonardo wrote his will and it was recorded by Sciacca notary Giovanni Antonino Baccimeo on May 8, 1672. Two days later Leonardo died and was buried in the same cemetery as his wife on May 10, 1672. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him as, Leonardus Savasta son of deceased Luca about 68 years old, which was his correct age. The reason why his father’s name is listed is because there was more than one man with his name. For now, this is all that is known about them.

(Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him simply as Leonardus Interranti about 50 years old, which was his correct age. Eighteen years later there is another St. Michele burial record for Philippa Interranti about 70 years old, who died at home and was buried on September 3, 1669, in the same cemetery as Leonardo. (Mouse over and click on the Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) This record does not state she was the wife of Leonardo and her age is off by 5 years, as she would have been only 65 on this date. This may or may not be her burial record, but it probably is. For now, this is all that is known about them. |

Luca Savasta’s ancestry is uncertain, but he lived and raised a family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. He probably is the Vito Luca who was baptized on May 31, 1573, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the son of Filippo Savasta and his wife Nunzia, whose surname may be Presti, but there is no documentation to support any of this. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin baptism record right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) What does support them being his parents is that he had three sons named Filippo, a daughter named Filippa and another daughter with the middle name of Nunzia. This researcher is assuming that Filippo and Nunzia were his parents.
Sometime before 1600, Luca married a woman name Vita, whose surname is unknown. A Sciacca church marriage record or contract could not be found for them. What has been found are eight St. Michele baptism records for the children of Luca and Vita Savasta as follows — Filippo Michele, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on September 29, 1600, but probably died young; ancestor Leonardo; Filippo Silvester was baptized on December 30, 1605, but died on December 14, 1608, a few weeks before his 3rd birthday; Maria was baptized on October 5, 1608; Vita Nunzia, given the middle name after her paternal grandmother, was baptized on November 19, 1611; another Filippo was baptized as Pho Petro on April 26, 1614; Filippa Vita was born on September 11, 1621, and baptized the next day; and Vita, who was born on February 23, 1624, and baptized the next day.
In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Secondo, there is an entry dated November 3, 1624, that translates roughly to Sale of Land under the Castle behind the Mon. delle Giummare by Paola Deciedue, to Luca Savasta subjugated in tt. 12 to the said Monast. The Santa Maria delle Giummare monastery traces back to the Norman era. This transaction occurred just 2 years after the monastery was fortified with high, sturdy walls and the nuns returned to it after they were relocated for the fear of Turkish pirate incursions.
Almost eight years after this purchase, on March 17, 1632, Luca filed his Testamento (will) with Sciacca notary Antonio Amico. The next day, he was buried in the St. Michele Church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record list him, as Luca Savasta, 60, died at home. The next month on April 29, 1632, an inventory of his property was taken and recorded by the same Sciacca notary. It is not known where or when Vita died, so for now, this is all that’s known about them.

Angelo Gigante was baptized on March 23, 1567, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Vito Gigante and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) On some records his surname is spelled many different ways — Jicanti, Jacanti, Gaianti, Gigati and Giaganti.
On September 18, 1593, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Basci recorded a notarial marriage contract for the 26 year-old Angelo and the 12 ½ year-old Nunzia Munti. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract enty upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Nunzia Geronima on March 26, 1581, also in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Andrea Munti and his wife Costantina, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for Angelo and Nunzia, but they married sometime before 1599, probably in the St. Michele church. St. Michele marriage records do not begin until 1607.
Nine St. Michele baptism records were found for the children of Angilo and Nunzia Giganti as follows —Calogero Viti, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on July 10, 1599; Maria Antonia on July 2, 1601, but she probably died young; ancestor Filippa and her twin sister Maria were baptized on May 15, 1604; Paola Calogera was baptized on January 26, 1606, and died at 4 years old on January 8, 1611; Francisco was baptized as Fran’co Filippo on May 12, 1608; Vincenzo was baptized as Vin’co Vitu on April 25, 1610; Vito, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on August 16, 1612; and Michele Vito, who was baptized on January 9, 1614.
It is documented that Angelo was deceased on September 2, 1621, when their daughter ancestor Filippa was married, but unfortunately her mother is not mentioned on the record. Angelo wrote his will (Testamento) and it was recorded by Sciacca notary Antonio Buscemi on August 19, 1615. (Mouse over and click on his will enty lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Two days later on August 21st, he was buried in the St. Michele cemetery. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record is very brief and doesn’t give his age. It simply states Ang’lo Giganti died, buried in St. Michele. Two weeks later on September 5th an inventory of his estate was taken and record by the same notary. This left Nunzia with young children, so she probably remarried, but there is no documentation yet to support this. Over two years later on January 23, 1618, there is another inventory taken for his name which was recorded by Sciacca notary Vito Gandolfo. There is not another burial record around this date for another Angelo Gigante, so it is most likely just another inventory taken for this ancestor. It could be that his oldest son just became of age and was to inherit the property, or possibly Nunzia’s remarriage or even her death. No records have been found to support any of these possibilities. For now this is all that is known about them.

Filippo Savasta and his wife Nunzia are probably ancestor Luca’s parents. They lived and raised and family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Filippo may be the son of Jacopo Savasta who was baptized as Calogero Pho in May of 1548, but there is no documentation to support this. Filippo didn’t have a son named Jacopo or Giocoma, the Italian name, so this is highly speculative.
There is a mother church marriage record dated May 20, 1571, for Pho Savesta and the daughter of deceased Natale Lu Presti named Cursa. (Mouse over and click on what could be their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Although the date lines up with their children, this record leaves much unanswered questions. Did the recorder of the record put in the wrong given name for the bride? Is this Filippo’s first wife or is this another Filippo Savasta. Because a marriage contract around this time could not been found for them, this is only a possibility.
What is documented are seven Sciacca baptism records and two marriage records, one of which is just a possibility. All but the last marriage record list the parents as Filippo or Pho and Nunzia Savasta. The first five children were baptized in the mother church parish and the last two in the St. Michele parish. The seven baptism records are as follows — ancestor Luca was baptized 2 years after his parents married; Angila Bastiana on December 11, 1575; Caterina Vita on April 1, 1578; Accursio was baptized as Curso on May 31, 1583; five years later Calogero Vincenzo was baptized on May 24, 1588, the first in the St. Michele parish; and six years later, Maria, who was baptized on May 19, 1594. The two marriage records are for Petro Savasta son of Pho and Nunzia, who married Nunzia di Vita in 1610; and Vincenzius son of Pho Savasta, who married Antonia Catinella on February 4, 1618.
It is documented that both Filippo and Nunzia were alive when their son Pietro was married on January 17, 1610. Unfortunately, a Sciacca burial record has not been found for either of them, so for now, this is all that is known about them. |

Vito Interrante’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. He may have come from Menfi, which is also in the Agrigento province, as his surname is common there.
On February 11, 1596, Sciacca notary Giovanni Nicolò Riggio, issued a notarial marriage contract for Vito and 17 year-old Epifania Bentivegna. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract enty upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on January 6, 1579, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Giuliano Bentivegna and his wife Margarita, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A Sciacca church marriage record couldn’t be found for Vito and Epifania, but they probably married in the St. Michele church, whose records don’t go back this far.
Four Sciacca St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Vito and Epifania Interrante as follows — Sebastiano Bartholomeo was baptized on January 20, 1597; ancestor Leonardo; Matteo Petro on February 1, 1603; and Michele, who was baptized as Micheli Filippo on August 27, 1605, and married Grazia Vita on October 11, 1626. On some of these records, Epifania’s name is listed as Fana.
Just 2 months prior to their last child being born, Sciacca notary Antonio Buscemi, filed Vito’s Testamento (will) on June 28, 1605. (Mouse over and click on his will enty middle left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A bit more than 2 ½ years after it was issued, Vito died and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery on February 16, 1608. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record middle right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His one line St. Michele burial record just lists only his name and where he was buried. Epifania was left with several young children, so a year later, she wrote her own will and remarried.
On February 9, 1609, using the same notary that her husband used, she filed her will. This probably was to protect her children’s inheritance when she married again. Almost 3 months later, on April 27, 1609, 28 year-old Epifania married 32 year-old Calogero Quartararo, who was the son of ancestors Caterina Licata and Giacomo Quartarao and brother to ancestor Giuseppe who married Lauria Vita. (Mouse over and click on Epifania's second Latin church marriage record lower left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Epifania and Calogero had one child together, Caterina, who was named after her paternal grandmother, and baptized on February 28, 1610. Less than a year and a half later, Epifania died and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery on July 22, 1611. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Her brief St. Michele burial record just lists her name as Fana and her place of burial. Six months later her second husband, Calogero married Margarita Verdiramo on January 30, 1612. This is all that is known about them.

Giuliano Bentivegna is most likely the son of Geronimo Bentivegna and his unnamed wife, who was baptized in early October of 1541, in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Giuliano is also the brother of ancestors Cosimo and Filippo.
Sometime prior to 1570, Giuliano married a woman named Margarita, whose surname and ancestry are unknown. Neither a church marriage record nor a marriage contract could be found for them. What has been found are 6 Sciacca mother church baptism records, of which the last 5 list a mother’s name, for Juliano and Margarita Bentivegna. The records are as follows — Leonardo Geronimo, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, was baptized on January 23, 1570; Filippo was baptized as Pho on August 12, 1572, and married Caterina Barbera in 1608, at the St. Vito church; Calogera was baptized on July 28, 1577; ancestor Epifania; Disiata Epifania was baptized on March 10, 1581; and Leonarda, who was baptized as Narda on October 18, 1583.
On October 29, 1571, Giuliano and Margarita received an inheritance from his father Geronimo’s estate which was recorded by Sciacca notary Geronimo d’Agostino. (Mouse over and click on his inheritance enty left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) The entry in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo translates roughly to Division between Giuliano Bentivegna and his spouse of the Inheritance of Geronimo. This may be because they had a son and gave him a middle name after Giuliano’s father.
It is documented that Giuliano and Margarita were both deceased on November 9, 1608, when their son Filippo was married. Giuliano first wrote his Testamento (will), which was recorded by Sciacca notary Benedetto Lauro, on April 25, 1590. Almost five years later, Giuliano updated his will, which was filed by Sciacca notary Vincenzo Palermo on February 20, 1595. He must have died on that same day, as an inventory of his property was also taken on February 20th and filed by the same notary. (Mouse over and click on his property inventory enty lower right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, burial records do not begin until 1606, so this is all that is known about them.

Andrea Munti and his wife Costantina’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca baptism record, marriage contract or church marriage record could not be found for them. Only two Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Andria and Custantina lo Munti as follows — Caterina was baptized as Catinella Nardulla on October 6, 1579; and ancestor Nunzia. It could be that Costantina died after her last child was born leaving Andrea with two young daughters, so he remarried. Records do not exist to support this, but his name is not a common one, so the following marriage contract is probably for him.
On November 27, 1585, Sciacca notary Martino Russo filed a notarial marriage contract for Andrea Munti and Alessandra Cordaro. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract enty left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) A Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for them, but not all churches have records that go back this far. Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Andrea and Alexandra lo Munti as follows — Calogera Francesca was baptized on November 15, 1586, but may have died young; Giuseppe Antonino on February 4, 1589; Giuseppe Stefano on February 11, 1590; Giovanna was baptized as Gioanna on October 15, 1591; Andreas Vincenzo on January 2, 1596; another Calogera Francesca was baptized on April 1, 1599; Catherina was baptized on July 18, 1605, and married Vito Piparo in 1632; and Leonarda, who was baptized on May 26, 1609.
It is documented that Andrea was deceased on February 16, 1632, when his daughter Caterina was married. Andrea died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on November 19, 1622. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record right to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Andrea Lo Munti, 70 years old, which puts his birth to about 1552. It is not known if his second wife remarried or when she died, so for now this is all that’s known about them.
