Giuseppe Marinello was born on April 17, 1635, in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and baptized in the mother church parish there the next day as Petrus Joseph, the son of Caterina Fazio and her husband Vito Marinello. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) The Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso is the main church of Sciacca, so it is called the mother church.

On August 1st, 8th and 10th of 1655, church banns were read for Giuseppe to marry Francesca Picovino. She was born and baptized on September 29, 1637, at the mother church in Sciacca, as Angela Francesca, the daughter of Caterina Leo and her husband Santo Picovino. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) She was their first born daughter and given the middle name of her paternal grandmother, so it seems plausible she would be known as Francesca. Giuseppe and Francesca were married at the mother church in Sciacca on August 22, 1655. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.)

Ten mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Francesa Marinello as follows — Vita Antonia Caterina Gaetano was born and baptized on August 19, 1656, and named with the female version of her paternal grandfather with a middle name of both of her grandmothers; Anna Vita Angela Cajetana (Latin for Gaetana) was born and baptized on the night of May 30, 1659; ancestor Stefano; Catherina Anna was born and baptized on November 10, 1666; Cosma Cunsula Calogera was born on September 26, 1669, and baptized the next day; Leonardus Antoninus Santus on February 8, 1671, who died at 18 months old on August 10, 1672; Leonardus Ignatius Calogerus was born and baptized in the evening of November 28, 1672; Vincenzus Vitus on March 27, 1674; Vita Maria Sebastiana was born on January 20, 1677, and baptized the next day; and Anna Maria Angela, who was born on March 7, 1679, and baptized the next day.

It is not known when Giuseppe and Francesco died, but they both were deceased when their son, ancestor Stefano was married on May 1, 1686. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Vito Marinello was baptized as Vito Ottavio on May 22, 1597, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giovanna Spiccia and her husband Pietro Marinello. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.)

On December 24, 1619, Sciacca notary Andrea Guadio filed a notarial marriage contract for Vito Imburli, which is believed to be a family alias, to marry Caterina Fazio. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Caterina Francesca, also in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, on February 1, 1604, the daughter of Pietro Antonio and Maria di Fazio. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) A few days after the contract was filed, church banns were read on December 26th 27th 28th and 31st of 1619, for them to marry. Twenty-two year old Vito Marinello and almost 16 year-old Caterina de Fazio were married at the St. Michele church on January 7, 1620. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) On their marriage record Caterina’s mother is listed as Leonora. Was Leonora a second wife and step mother to Caterina? Was the mother’s name just recorded incorrectly? This is a mystery to be solved at a later date.

There are only three Sciacca baptism records found for the children of Vito and Caterina Marinello as follows — Dorothea was baptized in the St. Michele church parish on November 19, 1622; Rosalia was born and baptized on October 5, 1625, in the mother church parish; and ancestor Giuseppe in the mother church parish. No other documentation has been found for the two females.

It is not known when Vito died, but it is documented that both Vito and Caterina were deceased when ancestor Giuseppe was married on August 22, 1655. Caterina died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on May 19, 1648. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her simply as Catharina Marinello age 50, but she was only 44 years old when she died. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Santo Picovino was most likely born in Caltabellotta, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Vincenzo and Francesca Picovino. On November 9th, 11th and 16th of 1636, church banns were read at the mother church in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, for Santo to marry Caterina Leo. She was baptized at the mother church in Sciacca, as Caterina Elisabetta on November 25, 1615, the youngest known daughter of Maria Munti and her husband Francesco Leo. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Santo and Caterina were married there on November 29, 1636, almost 2 weeks after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.)

Six Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Santo and Caterina as follows — ancestor Francesca; Maria, named after her maternal grandmother was baptized as Maria Felix Dominica on February 20, 1641; Anna Aleonora was born and baptized on February 28, 1644; Domenica Simeona was born and baptized on March 18, 1651; Leonarda Vita was born in the evening of June 1, 1652, and baptized the next day; and the only son found, Gaspare Joseph, was born and baptized on on January 11, 1654. On some of these records their surname is spelled slightly different, Picurino, Picavino, Picavano and Pecovino.

Caterina died and was buried on October 3, 1670. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record image lower right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Her mother church burial record states she was 50ish and that she was the wife of the deceased Sancti Pecovino. Being that Santo was alive when his daughter ancestor Francesca was married on August 22, 1655, he died sometime after that date but before his wife’s death in 1670. A Sciacca death record could not be found for him. It is possible that he may have wanted to be buried in Caltabellotta, but a death record wasn’t found for him in the available records there, which are missing from 1657 to 1708. His death will remain a mystery. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Pietro Marinello was probably the Pietro who was baptized as Vito Pietro on January 4, 1553, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giacomo Marinello and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) There was more than one Pietro Marinello baptized in Sciacca about this time, but because he named his first son Giacomo and he used the family alias of Imburli, this seems to be the correct baptism record for ancestor Pietro.

On April 14, 1588, Sciacca notary Vincenzo Giuffrida filed a notarial marriage contract for Pietro to marry Giovanna Spiccia. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) Because a Sciacca marriage record couldn’t be found for them, her ancestry is unknown and Pietro’s is uncertain. They probably married shortly after this contract date, in the St. Michele church, but this church’s marriage records for this time period are not available for research.

Only five Sciacca baptism records were found, all in the St. Michele parish, for the children of Petro and Joanella Marinello as follows — Giacomo was baptized as Jacopo Antonino on June 13, 1589; Antonino on March 13, 1591, who married Caterina Bruno, the daughter of ancestors Giuseppe Vincenzo Bruno and his wife Pietra Musca; Francesco Vito on March 16, 1594; Vita Maria on March 20, 1596; and ancestor Vito. No other baptism records were found for their children, so it is assumed Giovanna died and Pietro remarried. Unfortunately, burial records are not available for research before 1606.

On July 28, 1602, Petro, son of Jacopo Marinello married Caterina, daughter of Giovanni Mansella in the Sciacca St. Vito Church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image lower right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) The next day, a notarial marriage contract was filed by Sciacca notary Vincenzo Gresta for Petro Imburli and Caterina Mansella. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry middle left to enlarge it in a new window or tab.) On the church record, neither of them were listed as being previously married, but because there are only three baptism records for their children, it seems likely that they both were older and widowed. The three baptism records found for the children of Petro Imburli alias Marinello and Caterina are as follows — Michele, who was baptized on October 4, 1606, married Francisca Catania on April 30, 1643; Giusepe baptized as Joseppe on October 7, 1612; and Francesco Antonino, who was baptized on May 23, 1603, and married Francisca Rizzo on July 7, 1625.

There is a St. Michele burial record dated November 20, 1619, that is probably for ancestor Pietro. (Mouse over and click on the Latin burial record image lower left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Loosely translated, it states that Petrus Marinello, sexagesimus (in his 60’s) died passing through Marsala, Trapani. Marsala is a coastal town, located in the Province of Trapani in the westernmost part of Sicily. It is about 49 miles northwest of Sciacca and today would take about an hour to drive there. As per the baptism date listed above, Pietro was 66 years old when he died. Pietro’s body was returned to Sciacca and buried in the mother church cemetery. For now, this is all that is known about them, and much of this is assumptions.

Pietro Antonio Fazio was baptized on July 9, 1559, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Perrono and her husband Pietro Fazio. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) His surname is sometimes spelled Fazzio.

There is an undated notarial marriage contract entry, which was filed by Sciacca notary Martino Russo in the 1589-90 papers, in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s transcription book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, between Pietro Antonio Fazio and Elisabetta Canicani. She was most likely ancestor Pietro Antonio’s first wife. They had a son named Pietro, named after his paternal grandfather, who was baptized as Petro Paolo on October 29, 1588. There is a another child who could be this couple’s son, Giacomo, as that was the name of Elisabetta’s father. A St. Michele marriage record dated August 8, 1627, exists for Jacobi de Fazio, son of the deceased Pietro Antonino Fazio, but a mother’s name is not listed. No other baptism records for their children have been found, do it is assumed Elisabetta died.

Pietro Antonio then married a woman who used two different given names, Maria and Leonora. A Sciacca marriage record or marriage contract entry could not be found for them, but it is most likely that they married in the St. Michele church, as these records do not begin until 1607. Seven Sciacca St. Michele parish baptism records have been found for the children of Petro Antonino and either Maria or Leonora di Fazio as follows — Francesco Antonio was baptized on December 11, 1598, with his mother listed as Leonora, and grew up to marry Antonia Lauria Noto in Sciacca; ancestor Caterina was named after her paternal grandmother, her mother was listed as Maria on her baptism record, but Leonora on her marriage record; Antonino was baptized with his mother listed as Maria, on April 28, 1605; Maria was baptized on January 11, 1606, with her mother listed as Leonora; Mattheo was baptized on April 13, 1608, with his mother listed as Maria; Giuseppe was baptized as Joseph Jo: on July 12, 1610, with his mother listed as Leonora; and Luciana, whose parents are listed as the deceased Petro Antonini and Maria di Fazzio, was baptized on December 8, 1611, seven months after her father died.

Pietro Antonio’s will (Testamento) was filed by Sciacca Notary Bartolomeo Raja on May 10, 1611. He died and was buried in the St. Michele cemetery three days later on May 13th. (Mouse over and click on his very brief Latin burial record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Three days after that on May 16th, a correction to the will was made and an inventory of his property was taken, both were filed by the same notary. Almost two years later, on February 10, 1614, another inventory was taken and filed by Sciacca notary Gaspare Giuffrida. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Vincenzo Picovino and his wife Francesca, whose surname is unknown were most likely born and married in Caltabellotta, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, but their ancestries are unknown. Their only known child was ancestor Santo. What is documented is that Vincenzo died and was buried at the Caltabellotta parish church on November 20, 1647. (Mouse over and click on the Latin burial record image right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) His age is listed simply with a 6 and what looks like an e, but probably means sometime in his 60’s. In these same records there is an October 8, 1649, record for a Francesca relicta, meaning widow, of the deceased Vincenzo with a surname that could be Picovino, but it is unclear. (Mouse over and click on what could be her Latin burial record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) It should be noted that although there are many Francesca’s who died, this was the only one whose husband’s name was Vincenzo. She is listed as being 62 years old, but ages on death records are usually just an estimate. If this is not her death record then she died sometime after 1656, as the available Caltabellotta death records are missing from 1657 to 1708. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Francesco Leo was baptized on March 16, 1575, at the mother church in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angela Coxa and her husband Antonino Leo. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) In 1596, on April 14th, 21st and 28th, church banns were read for Francesco to marry Maria Munti. She was baptized at the mother church in Sciacca on January 30, 1579, the daughter of Antonino and Angilella Munti. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.) Francesco and Maria married at the mother church in Sciacca on May 28, 1596. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image left to enlarge it in a new window/tab.

Ten Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Maria Munti as follows — Angila, named after both of her grandmothers, was baptized on March 13, 1597; Leonarda Accusia on November 3, 1599, who probably died young; Accursia Giovanna on June 22, 1602; Petro Calogero on September 18, 1604; Antonino, named after both of his grandfathers, was baptized on May 19, 1607, and died 16 months later on September 24, 1608; another Leonarda on April 11, 1609; Antonino Giuseppe on November 28, 1610; ancestor Caterina; Nicolas Francesco on November 25, 1618; and Accursio Joseph who was born and baptized on February 7, 1621.

The exact dates of Francesco and Maria’s deaths are not yet known, but they both were alive when their daughter ancestor Caterina was married on November 29, 1636. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Giacomo Marinello’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record or contract entry has not been found for his name, but church records before 1568 are not available for research.

There are twelve mother church baptism records for the children of Jacopo Marinello, but only the last one lists a mother’s name which is difficult to read, but looks like Petviza. It is not known for certain that all 12 are for the same Jacopo, which is Giacomo in Italian, but they are as follows —Vito Filippo was baptized as Vito Pho on November 13, 1544; Gesimunda on April 25, 1547; Matteo on September 22, 1549; Sigismunda Calogera on January 28, 1552; ancestor Pietro; Calogera on March 4, 1557, who married Andria Bacchi on November 12, 1576; Giovanna was baptized as Joannella on July 11, 1559, but may have died young; Silvestro on July 21, 1561; another Giovanna as Joannella on November 10, 1562; Vincenzo was baptized as Vinc’zo Joanni on December 26, 1564; Giovanni as Jo: Ant’no on October 13, 1566; and Leonardo who was baptized as Nardo on January 21, 1572.

It is not known when Giacomo died, but it is documented that he was alive when his daughter Calogera was married in 1576. For now, this is all that is known about him.

Pietro Fazio was the son of Giovanni Fazio and his unknown wife. It is not known when and where he was born, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy.

On June 20, 1549, Sciacca notary Bartolomeo Modica filed a notarial marriage contract for Pietro to marry Caterina Perrono. Her ancestry is unknown, as a Sciacca church marriage record could not be found for them. It should be noted that Sciacca church marriage records for this time period are not available for research.

Seven Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Petro di Fazio, but a mother’s name is not listed on any of them. These records are as follows —Carmisina on October 16, 1552; Giovanni, named after his paternal grandfather was baptized as Jo: on January 6, 1556; ancestor Pietro; Nardula on October 11, 1562; Vincenzo, who is listed as Vinc’zo son of Petro of deceased Joannius Fazio, was baptized on September 5, 1564; Matteo on January 10, 1566; and Nunzia, who was baptized as Nuncia Jacupa on March 25, 1568.

It is not known when Caterina, Pietro or his father Giovanni died, but Giovanni is listed as deceased on his grandson Vincenzo’s 1564 baptism record. For now, this is all that is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Antonino and Angela Leo are listed as the parents of ancestor Francesco. Their ancestries are unknown, but they married and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. There is a December 6, 1568, Sciacca mother church marriage record for Antonino de Leo and what looks like Angela daughter of an unreadable given name, then Coxa. Antonino and Angela Coxa are most likely the parents of ancestor Francesco. (Mouse over and click on their Latin mariage record image right to enlarge it in a new window/tab.)

There are many mother church baptism records for children of Antonino Leo, but there were several men with that name at the time, one was married to an Antonella, who may or may not be Angela. Only three of these baptism records list both Angela and Antonino as the parents as follows — Julia was baptized on February 4, 1571; ancestor Francesco; and a son baptized as Jo: Vinco Joseppi on November 17, 1579. There are two other records that may be for their children as follows — Angela Joanella baptized on April 13, 1578; and Leonara Ortencia on June 8, 1583. These two only have the father’s name listed, but because of the dates, they are good possibilities.

It is not known when Angela and Antonino died, but they were deceased when their son, ancestor Francesco was married on May 28, 1596. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Antonino and Angela Munti’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Eight mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Angela Munti as follows — a daughter whose name looks like Jobatta was baptized on July 31, 1577; ancestor Maria; Leonoria on January 13, 1581; Antonino Jovanni on January 3, 1582; Vincenzo Benedetto on April 7, 1583; Calogera Pasqua on April 2, 1584; Caterina on January 3, 1586; and Giuseppa Vincenza, who was baptized on January 22, 1588.

It is not known when Antonino and Angela died, but it was after May 28, 1596, the date their daughter ancestor Maria was married. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.
