Francesco Tavormina was born on June 2, 1655, and was baptized the next day as Francesco Joseph in the St Michele’s church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Angela Randazzo and her husband Pietro Tavormina. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Twenty five years later, church banns were read on June 16th, 23rd and 24th of 1680 for Francesco to marry Calogera Sutera, who was almost 21 years old. She was born on July 10, 1659, and baptized the next day also in the St Michele’s church parish of Sciacca, as Anna Calogera Aloysia, the daughter of Dorothea Catinella and her husband Giuseppe Sutera. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Francesco and Calogera were married at St Michele’s church in Sciacca on June 25, 1680, a day after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Eight St Michele’s baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Calogera Tavormina as follows — eldest son Pietro, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on August 15, 1681, and baptized the next day as Petrius Mattheus; eldest daughter Angela, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the morning of July 31, 1684, and baptized that same day as Angela Ignazia; Archangela Dorothea was born and baptized on the evening of January 3, 1687, with the middle name of her maternal grandmother; Giuseppe was born on December 2, 1689, and baptized the next day as Joseph Xaverius, after his maternal grandfather; Maria was born on April 23, 1692, baptized the next day as Maria Paula Philippa and married Antonino Bono at St. Michele’s church in Sciacca on October 23, 1712; Silvestro was born and baptized as Silveyster Placidus on the morning of  December 31, 1694; ancestor Rosa; and Michele, who was born on November 25, 1702, and baptized the next day as Michael Joannas.

Francesco died at home and was buried in the St. Francesco Convent cemetery outside the city on June 22, 1707. His mother church burial record gives his age as 54 years old, but that’s two years older than his actual age of 52. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Calogera died at home and was buried in the same cemetery as her husband a year later on June 28, 1708. Her mother church burial record states she was 50 years-old, but she was only 48. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Pietro Tavormina was born on November 23, 1622, and baptized that same day as Petrus Antoninus, after his maternal grandfather, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the second son of Calogera Cacioppo and her husband Francesco Tavormina. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It should be noted that the Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso is the Sciacca mother church.

On August 2nd, 9th and 10th of 1654, church banns were read at St. Michele’s church in Sciacca, for Pietro to marry Angela Randazzo. She was born and baptized as Rosalia Angila on September 10, 1628, in the St. Michele’s parish the daughter of Nicolò Randazzo and his wife Ursula, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Thirty-one year-old Pietro and 25 year-old Angela were married at St. Michele’s church in Sciacca a few days after the last banns were read on August 16, 1654.  (Mouse over and click on the Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Five St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Pietro and Angela Tavormina as follows — ancestor Francesco was the eldest son and named after his paternal grandfather; Calogero was born on May 18, 1661, and baptized that same day with the male version of his paternal grandmother’s given name, Calogus Antonius; daughter Stefana Calogera was born on May 18, 1661, and baptized that same day with a middle name of her paternal grandmother’s given name; Anna Onofria was baptized on September 15, 1663; and Giuseppe, was born on March 12, 1667, and baptized the next day as Joseph Philippus Antoninus.

It is not known when Pietro and Angela died, but it is documented that when their son ancestor Francesco married on June 25, 1680, Angela was already deceased and Pietro was still alive. A Sciacca burial record for Angela could not be found, but St. Michele death records are missing from 1675 to 1680, so she probably died some time at the end of that 5 year span. On January 26th, February 2nd and 9th of 1681, church banns were read for Pietro to marry Laurea Monaco, the widow Antononi Quartararo. He was the son of Bartolo Pietro Quartararo, who was the brother of ancestor Francesca Maria Quartararo, and grandson of ancestors Vincenzo Quartararo and Angela Galluzzo. Fifty-eight year old Pietro married almost 51 year-old Laurea on February 10, 1681, at the Sciacca mother church. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Giuseppe Sutera was born and baptized as Antoius Joseph on November 16, 1635, in the St. Michele church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Calogera Causi and her husband Francesco Sutera. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Twenty-two years later on January 6th, 13th and 20th church banns were read for Giuseppe to marry 23 year-old Dorothea Catinella. She was born and baptized as Dorothea Spina on May 31, 1634, also in the St. Michele church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Agustina Ragusa and her husband Calogero Catinella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Giuseppe and Dorothea were married at the St. Michele church in Sciacca on February 10, 1658. (Mouse over and click on Giuseppe and Dorothea's Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Six St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Dorothea Sutera as follows — their eldest daughter, ancestor Calogera was named after her paternal grandmother; eldest son Francisco was born on October 8, 1661, and baptized as Francisius Caltanius after his paternal grandfather, the next day; Anna Maria was born and baptized on the evening of August 14, 1666, and died at 15 months old on December 13, 1667; Giovanni was born and baptized as Joannes on July 30, 1668; Filippo was born and baptized as Philippus Antoninus Ignatius, on March 2, 1671; and another Anna Maria, who was born and baptized on the morning of January 27, 1672.

Dorothea died on December 2, 1674, and was buried in the St. Maria de Lilio cemetery, which was probably located in the Convento di San Francesco, where her young daughter was buried. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Giuseppe was left with several small children, the oldest being 15 year-old ancestor Calogera. Less than 3 months after the death of his wife, on February 25, 1675, Giuseppe married Caterina Savona, at St Vito’s church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on Giuseppe and Caterina's Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was the widow of Leonardo Cucchiara and probably had her own young children. No baptism records within 4 years of their marriage have been found for their children, so it doesn’t look like Giuseppe and Caterina had any children of their own.

It is not known when Giuseppe died but he was alive when his daughter, ancestor Calogera was married on June 25, 1680. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Francesco Tavormina was baptized as Joseph Francesco, on June 12, 1590, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Innocenzo Tavormina and his wife Angela, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On March 27th, 28th and April 2nd of 1617, church banns were read for 26 year-old Francesco to marry 16 year-old Calogera Cacioppo. She was baptized on December 26, 1600, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Pietro Cacioppo and his wife Calogera, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The next day on April 3, 1617, Francesco and Calogera were married at the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Four years later on March 9, 1621, Sciacca notary Antonio Buscemi issued a marriage contract for them. This most likely was a dowry restitution contract, which was usually made at the birth of the first child or the death of one of the spouses. What the reason for this contract in this instance is, is not known.

Seven mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Calogera Tavormina as follows — Giuseppe on November 19, 1618; ancestor Pietro, who was named after his paternal grandfather; Nicholas Antonious on April 15, 1623; Rosalia Angela Angelica was born and baptized on October 13, 1625; Innocentia was named the female version of her paternal grandfather, was born and baptized on January 31, 1630; Vito was born and baptized as Vitus Petrius on October 5, 1632; and Natale, who was born on Christmas morning, December 25, 1635, and baptized that same day as Natalis Ferdinandus. On all but one of these records, Francesco is called Mastro, which means he was a well respected man of his craft.

It is documented that Francesco and Calogera were deceased when their son ancestor Pietro was married on August 16, 1654. Francesco died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on May 22, 1651. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as 60 years old, which was his correct age. A burial record for Calogera has not been found yet, so at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Nicolò Randazzo was baptized as Cola on February 7, 1581, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giovanna, whose surname is unknown and Pietro Randazzo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His baptism record is badly damaged and is difficult to read. Sometime prior to 1607, Nicolò married a woman named Ursula. Where and when they married is unknown, but they lived in the St Michele parish in Sciacca and raised a family there.

Seven St Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Nicolo and Ursula Randazzo as follows — Ninfa was baptized on April 4, 1607, and being that she is not named after her paternal grandmother, she probably wasn’t their first child; Maria Antonina on May 17, 1608; Antonina on July 1, 1610; Calogera on October 8, 1612; Vito Antonino on July 27, 1618; Giovanna Francesca was born and baptized on August 13, 1621; and ancestor Angela.

Nothing is known about Nicolò’s parents. It is also not known when Nicolò died, but he was deceased when their daughter ancestor Angela was married on August 16, 1654. Ursula lived much longer and did not remarry. She died and was buried in the St. Domenico the Confessor cemetery on December 8, 1668. (Mouse over and click on the Latin church burial record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St Michele burial record states, Ursula wife of Nicolai Randazzo, about 80 years-old. This puts her birth to about 1588, but death record ages are just an estimate. For now this is all that is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Francesco Sutera was baptized on December 28, 1608, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giovanni Vincenzo Sutera and his wife Antonella Bentivegna. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

On September 21, 1632, twenty-three year-old Francesco entered into a notarial contract to marry 16 year-old Calogera Causi. She was also baptized in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, but 7 years later on May 10, 1616, the daughter of Giacoma Verdiramo and her husband Vincenzo Causi. This contract was issued by Sciacca notary Antonino Amico and is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s books, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A week later, on September 29th, October 1st and 3rd, church banns were read for them to marry. Another week later on October 10, 1632, they married at the Sciacca St. Michele church, but Francesco’s father was listed with the family alias — Francesco, son of Joan-Vincenzus Cappello married Calogera, daughter of Vincenzus di Causi. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Four St. Michael baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Calogera Sutera as follows — ancestor Giuseppe; Vincenzo was born and baptized as Vincenzius Dominico on October 11, 1640; Antonino was born and baptized as Antoninus Antoius Joachanius on January 13, 1643; and Onofrio, who was born on August 7, 1645, and baptized the next day as Onofrius Calogerus Petrus, and grew up to marry Maria Formosa on October 1, 1679, in Sciacca.

It is documented that Francesco and Calogera were both alive when their son ancestor Giuseppe was married on February 10, 1658. Four years later, Francesco died and was buried in the St Maria di Lilio cemetery on October 8, 1662. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Michael’s burial record states his correct age of 53 years old. A burial record for Calogera has not been found yet. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Calogero Catinella was baptized on February 11, 1599, as Calogeru Andrea, in the St. Michele church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesca Chiarello and her husband Paolo Catinella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Twenty-five years later, in 1624, church banns were read on October 27th, November 1st and 3rd for Calogero to marry 21 year-old Agustina Ragusa. She was baptized also in the St. Michele’s parish on August 27, 1603, the daughter of Calogera Quartararo and her husband Pietro Ragusa. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A few days after the last banns were read, Sciacca notary Antonino Amico filed a notarial marriage contract on November 7, 1624, which is documented in volume one of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico. Three days later, on November 10, 1624, Calogero and Agustina were married at the St. Michele church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)

Six St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero and Agustina Catinella as follows — Giuseppa was born and baptized as Josepha Margarita on November 18, 1625; Paolo baptized as Paulus Franciscus, named after his paternal grandfather was baptized on October 17, 1627; Francesca Caterina, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the morning of February 7, 1630, and baptized that same day; Giuseppe was born on April 8, 1632, and baptized the next day as Joseph Francesco; ancestor Dorothea; and Bartolomeo, who was born and baptized as Bartholomeus Vito on August 24, 1644.

Agustina died on August 2, 1646, just two years after her last child was born. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her death record was found in the St. Michele records and states she was buried in the St. Maria de Lilio cemetery, which was probably located in the Convento di San Francesco. One year later on August 11, 1647, Calogero married a widow named Brigida Scoma. No Sciacca baptism records can be found for children born to them for 5 years after their marriage, so they probably didn’t have any.

It is not known when Calogero died, but he was still alive when his second wife, Brigida died on December 16, 1672. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Innocenzo Tavormina and his wife Angela’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and raised a family there. Four Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Innocentio and Angela Tavormina as follows — ancestor Francesco; Caterina on July 30, 1591; Grazia as Gratia Sebasatina on October 17, 1593; and Paolo, who was baptized on February 10, 1598, as Paulo.

There is a legal action that was recorded by Sciacca notary Giuseppe Cattano, documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, that gives us a glimpse into Innocenzo’s life. On October 10, 1621, when he was near the end of his life, Innocenzo gave his son, ancestor Francesco, his warehouse with its contents, that was located next to the Giummare Monastery near the Sciacca baths. This implies that Innocenzo was a businessman who had some wealth and property. It also confirms that ancestor Francesco was their first born son.

Innocenzo died a year later on December 12, 1622, in Sciacca in his eighties and was buried in the St. Francesco cemetery, which was probably located in the Convento di San Francesco. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  It is not known when Angela died, but she was still alive when her son ancestor Francesco was married on April 3, 1617. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Pietro Cacioppo and his wife Calogera’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and raised a family there. Four mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Pietro and Calogera Cachioppo as follows —ancestor Calogera; Vincenzo on March 16, 1604; Camilia as Milia Celidonia Josepha on July 28, 1605; and Giacinto, whose name is of Spanish and Greek origin meaning hyacinth, on May 25, 1609.

There are a few mentions of his name in both books of Pellegrino Mortillaro’s Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico, but there is no way of knowing if any of them are for this Pietro. One is difficult to translate because of the abbreviations used, but they are both dated within his lifetime, July 12, 1607, and January 3, 1608, the later being a sale of property to Antonino Dayna.

It is not known when Pietro and Calogera died, but they were both still alive when their daughter, ancestor Calogera was married on April 3, 1617. Two more entries in Mortillaro’s books could be for this Pietro. The first is Pietro Cacioppo filing a will with notary Onofrio Sole on January 13, 1646. The second is an inventory taken of his goods and property on April 8, 1646. There is also a brief mother church burial record for Petrus Gacioppo dated dated April 9, 1646. (Mouse over and click on the Latin church burial record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It states he was 62 years old making his birth to about 1584, and was buried at the mother church. There is nothing that confirms this is the same Pietro and if his age is correct, he was about 16 years old when his first child was born. Again, there is nothing on this record to confirm it is for this Pietro. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Giovanni Vincenzo Sutera was baptized as Giovanni Vincenzo Mario Sebastiano on July 1, 1575, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Calogero Sutera and his wife Margarita, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On all of the records found for him he is called Giovanni Vincenzo, mostly abbreviated in one form or another.

On January 5, 1598, Sciacca notary Antonio Buscemi filed a notarial marriage contract for Gio. Vincenzo to marry Antonella Bentivegna. Because a Sciacca church marriage record can not be found for them, her ancestry is unknown. Some time after the contract and before 1600, twenty-two year old Gio. Vincenzo and Antonella married. They may have been married at the St. Michele church, as records available for this church don’t begin until 1607.

Six St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Jo Vincenzo and Antonella Sutera as follows — eldest daughter Margarita, named after her paternal grandmother, was baptized on May 21, 1600; eldest son Calogero, named after his paternal grandfather was baptized on November 22, 1601; Giuseppe on May 16, 1605; ancestor Francesco; Giovanna was baptized as Joana Bonaventura on December 28, 1612; and Giovanni was baptized as Gio Jacobo on March 8, 1616.

It is not known when Giovanni Vincenzo and Antonella died, so at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Paolo Catinella was baptized as Paulo Vito on July 31, 1563, in the mother church parish of  Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of the deceased Vito Catinella and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) On that same day, Paolo’s brother Pietro was also baptized, but neither baptism record states they were infants or gives the mother’s name. Sadly, Paolo never knew his father.

On January 18, 1598, Sciacca notary Giuseppe Bassi filed a notarial marriage contract between 34 year-old Paolo and almost 17 year-old Francesca Chiarello (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized on February 9, 1581, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Geronimo Chiarello and his wife Leonarda, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  A Sciacca church marriage record can not be found for Paolo and Francesca. They probably married at the St. Michele church, but marriage records are not available for this time period.

Paolo and Francesca had three children, all born in Sciacca and baptized at the St. Michele church there on the following dates —oldest son ancestor Calogero; Francesco Filippo on October 26, 1600; and Vincenzo Francesco on April 21, 1603. Being that Paolo was so much older than Francesca and they did not name a son after his father, he may have been married previously. There is a 1594 Sciacca Rivelo for his name, but he is listed as 25 years old which is off by 6 years, as he would have been 31 at the time. (Mouse over and click on the Rivelo image lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Listed with him is a woman named Laurea, who could be his first wife or even his mother, as Paolo did have a sister named Lauria. This may or may not be ancestor Paolo.

Francesca died sometime after her last child was born and before January of 1605, but Sciacca death records aren’t available for research before 1606. On January 28, 1605, notary Antonio Buscemi issued a notarial marriage contract between Paolo and Margarita Cuttuni. A Sciacca church marriage record can not be found for them.

Paolo and Margarita had at least six additional children, all born in Sciacca and baptized at St. Michele’s as follows — Giovanni Vito baptized on December 23, 1606, with a middle name after his paternal grandfather; Giacomo, baptized as Jacobus Carolo on July 25, 1613; Giuseppe as Joseppi on November 2, 1618; Dorothea Catharina was born on August 11, 1621, baptized the next day and died at 11 months old on July 22, 1622; another Dorothea was born on August 27, 1623,baptized the next day and died at 9 months old on June 22, 1624; and another Dorothea who was born on December 30, 1625, and baptized the next day

Paolo filed his will with Sciacca notary Antonini Amico on December 18, 1629, asking for masses to be said for him. He died and was buried a few days later on December 22nd in the St. Maria de Lilo cemetery in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His death record, which was found in the St. Michele church files, states he was 63 years old, but he was actually 66 years-old. His wife Margarita died and was buried in the St. Maria di Lillo convent four years later on December 23, 1633. Her St. Michele burial record lists her as Margarita age 45 wife of the deceased Pauli Catinella. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Pietro Ragusa was baptized as Petro Antonello on March 7, 1565, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Pellegrino Ragusa and his wife Antonella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He is also brother to ancestor Calogero who married Geronima Friscia.

In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an entry dated April 16, 1581, which states that Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for Pietro Ragusa and Calogera Donisi to marry. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) The next day, on April 17, 1581, a mother church marriage was performed for Pietro Ragusa and Calogera Quartararo, the daughter of Dionisi Quartararo and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It is possible that Mortillaro took Calogera’s father’s given name as her surname. To this researcher, it seems these two couples are one in the same! Calogera was baptized on November 20, 1564, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)  Only her father’s name is listed on her baptism record. Calogera and Pietro were 16 years old when they married.

Five Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Pietro and Calogera Ragusa. The first child’s baptism was in the mother church matrix records and the rest were in the St Michele records as follows — Giuseppe Michele on September 24, 1582; Vincenzo Stefano on June 6, 1597; Bartholomea Filippa on October 15, 1600; ancestor Agustina; and Pietro on August 15, 1606, who was named after his deceased father. Note that there is a 15 year gap between the first and second child, but no other baptism records can be found for their children in the available records of the three Sciacca churches.

It is documented that Pietro and was deceased when his daughter ancestor Agustina was married on November 10, 1624. It is also documented on their last child’s 1606 baptism record that states Pietro was already deceased when he was born. In Mortillaro’s book there is an entry that states a division of their father’s estate between Calogero and Antonino, the two surviving sons of Pellegrino. This is proof that Pietro died shortly before this legal action was taken to divide his portion between the surviving brothers. Calogera was no more than a month pregnant when her husband died! She lived another 40 years and never remarried. She died and was buried in the St. Domenico cemetery in Sciacca on December 12, 1646. Her St. Michael burial record lists her as Calogera wife of Petri Ragusa, 90 years old, but she was actually only 82 years old. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Calogero Sutera and his wife Margarita’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Four mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero Sutera, but only two of these records, the second and fourth child, list the mother’s name. Their third child and only known daughter lists the father as Calogero Sutera alias Cappallo. All of their sons were given the first name of Giovanni, which was abbreviated as Jo: on the baptism records. The children are as follows — Giovanni Vincenzo was baptized as Jo Vinco Antonino on February 10, 1562; Giovanni Giacomo Giuseppe was baptized as Jo Jaco Joseppi on July 26, 1563, and became a Sciacca notary who served from 1587 to 1592; daughter Antonella on November 2, 1566; and ancestor Giovanni Vincenzo. It is not known if all these Giovannis survived, but being that ancestor Giovanni was known by Giovanni Vincenzo, it is assumed at least one of the other Giovanni’s also survived.

It is not known when Calogero and Margarita died, but in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s transcription of Sciacca notary records, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an entry for a Testamento (a will) for Calogero, dated April 18, 1592, that was drawn up by Sciacca notary Giovanni Giacomo Sutera, who was probably Calogero’s son. (Mouse over and click on his will entry image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Vito Catinella’s ancestry is unknown. His wife’s name is also unknown. What is known is that he lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Seven mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Vito Catinella, none give a mother’s name or birth information, as follows — Antonina was baptized on January 5, 1552; Colo, which might be an abbreviation for Nicolò, on January 7, 1555; Lauria on September 12, 1556; Calella on June 18, 1558; Antonino Salvatori on November 26, 1561; ancestor Paolo and his brother, Pietro, probably a twin, on July 31, 1563.

Vito was already deceased when his sons, ancestor Paolo and Pietro were baptized in 1563, so he died sometime within the 9 months before their baptisms. Sciacca burial records are not available for research for this time period. In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s transcription of Sciacca notary records, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an entry for an inventory taken on April 7, 1563 for Vito Catinella. (Mouse over and click on his inventory entry image right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) So he probably died shortly before that date. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about him.

Geronimo Chiarello and his wife Leonarda’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. They probably married in the mother church there, but records for the time they would have married are not available for research.

Only three mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Geronimo and Leonarda Chiarello as follows — Giuseppe was baptized as Giuseppi Jacobo on September 20, 1576; ancestor Francesca; and Vincenza Rosa on March 4, 1583. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Dionisi Quartararo’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Only four Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Dionisi Quartararo, only the last two give a mother’s name of Cattinella. If she is ancestor Calogera’s mother is unknown, as no records are available to confirm it. The four baptism records found are as follows — ancestor Calogera was the earliest one found; Gesimunda Vita was baptized on January 18, 1567, and probably died young; Gesimunda Aria was baptized on May 14, 1572; and Geronimo Bartilo on March 28, 1574.

It is not known when Dionisi or his wife Cattinella died, but it is documented that he was deceased when his daughter Calogera was married on March 28, 1574. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.
