Note that the Latin months September thru December are often written in numbers, 7ber, 8ber, 9ber and 10ber, respectively.

Santo Abruzzo was born on October 31, 1699, and was baptized as Santo Francesco the next day, in the St Michele church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Anna Sabella and her husband Francesco Abruzzo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He is listed as 14 years old on his father’s 1714 Rivelo (tax record), which states they were living in the mother church parish of Sciacca. (See the image in Francesco's bio below.)

In 1728, marriage banns were read at the mother church of Sciacca on January 4th, 6th and 11th for Santo to marry Giovanna Tigano. She was born and baptized as Joa Rosa Felicia on the morning of October 16, 1712, inthe mother church parish of Sciacca, the younger daughter of Antonina Rizzuto and her husband Onofrio Tigano. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Twenty-eight year-old  Santo and 15 year-old Giovanna were married at the Sciacca mother church on January 12, 1728. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

There is a 1747 Sciacca Rivelo for this family, who are living in the mother church parish. (Mouse over and click on their tax record image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) On it, his father and mother are listed as deceased, and he is listed as being 51 years old. Santo’s wife is listed as Anna, this may be a shortened form of Giovanna, or it may be a second wife. Then their two daughters are listed — ancestor Antonina, who may be a second daughter because she was named after her maternal grandmother; and Onofria, who was given the female version of her maternal grandfather’s name. This tax record doesn’t have much written on it, so they didn’t own much.

It is not known yet when Santo and Giovanna died, but they were both alive when their daughter ancestor Antonina was married on January 12, 1758. Unfortunately, this is all that is known about them.

Francesco Abruzzo was born and baptized as Joannus Bapristo Francesco, on the morning of January 28, 1666, in the St. Michele church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Onofria Currao and her husband Filippo Abruzzo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He was their first born son, named after his paternal grandfather. He is also the older brother of ancestor Calogero who married Angela Castello.

In 1688, church bannswere read on August 1st, 8th and 10th for Francesco to marry Anna Sabella. She was born on January 17, 1671, and baptized the next day as Anna Maria Rosalia, also in the St. Michele’s church parish in Sciacca, the daughter of Margarita Farina and her husband Calogero Antonino Sabella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Anna was the sister to ancestor Onofrio Sabella who married Angela diMino. Twenty-two year-old Francesco and 17 year-old Anna were married at St. Michele church in Sciacca on August 15, 1688. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Nine St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Anna Abruzzo as follows — Onofria Anna Franisca, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on October 10, 1689, and baptized the next day; Filippo, named after his paternal grandfather was born and baptized as Philippus Sebastianus on the evening of January 21, 1692; Michele was born and baptized as Michael Angelus on the evening of July 20, 1694; Rosa was born and baptized as Rosalia Margarita Angela on the morning of October 16, 1696; Gabriel Francesco was born and baptized on the evening of September 18, 1698; ancestor Santo; Antonina Brigida was born and baptized on November 1, 1704; Ignazio was born on July 31, 1707, and baptized as Ignatius Joannes, the next day; and Maria, who was born on August 30, 1710, and baptized the next day as Margarita Josepha, after her maternal grandmother. There was another daughter born probably after Maria name Caterina, but a baptism record for her has not been found.

There is a 1714 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for this family, that is dated July 13, 1714. (Mouse over and click on their tax record image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) It names Francesco’s father, as the deceased Filippo, but does not say anything about his mother. Francesco is listed as being 44 years old, but he was actually 48 at this time. Then his wife’s given name, Anna, and their eight children as follows — eldest son 20 year-old Filippo, 18 year-old Michele, ancestor Santo, listed as 14 years old, then their four daughters Rosa, Antonina, Maria, and Caterina, whose baptism record could not be found. Listed last is their youngest son 9 year-old Ignazio. The female ages are not given, so Caterina’s birth is based on where she is listed on the Rivelo. Not much is written on this tax record, so it doesn’t seem they owned much. There is a S. Michele church baptism document dated October 11, 1689, for one additional child, Onofrio Anna Fracesca, probably their oldest daughter as she is named after her father’s mother.

It is documented that Francesco and Anna were both alive when their son ancestor Santo was married on January 12, 1728. Francisco died and was buried on March 21, 1741, on the grounds of the convent of St Francisco outside the city. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Franciscus Abruzzo, about 82 years old, but he was only 75. Anna died almost 4 years later and was buried on January 19, 1745, in the same convent. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Anna wife of the deceased Francisci Abbruzzo about 85 years old, but she was only 74 when she died. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Onofrio Tigano was born and baptized as Honophuius Joseph on May 24, 1671, at the mother church in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Pietra Vitrano and her husband Leonardo Tigano. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

In 1690, church banns were read on March 13th, 27th and 28th for Onofrio to marry Antonina Rizzuto. She was the only known child of Giuseppe Rizzuto and his wife Antonia, whose surname is unknown. Antonina and Onofrio were married at the mother church in Sciacca on April 9, 1690.(Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

There is a 1714 Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for this family, dated July 13, 1714. (Mouse over and click on their tax record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) It names Onofrio’s father as the deceased Leonardo, but does not say anything about his mother. Onofrio is listed as being 40 years old, calculating his birth year to about 1674. Then his wife’s given name, Antonina, and their five children as follows — 22 year-old Francesco was born about 1692; 19 year-old Leonardo, who was named after his father’s father, was born about 1695; Pietra who married Francesco Montagnino, at the mother church in Sciacca on January 18, 1716, was probably the oldest daughter, named after her father’s mother; Anna; and lastly ancestor Giovanna. The female ages are not given, but they are probably listed in order of their age. This is a four page tax record that states they owned gold (oro), so they must have been somewhat wealthy.

The only documented information for Antonina’s parents, Giuseppe and Antonia, is that they both were deceased when their daughter ancestor Antonina was married in 1690. It is not known when Antonina and Onofrio died, but they were both alive when their daughter ancestor Giovanna was married on January 12, 1728. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Filippo Abruzzo was born on February 15, 1632, and baptized the next day as Filippus Vincenius, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Francesco Abruzzo and his wife Calogera Armenio. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

On April 6th, 7th and 12th of the year 1665, Sciacca church banns were read for Filippo to marry Onofria Currao. She was born and baptized as Honfria on November 11, 1635, in the St. Michele church parish, the daughter of Giuseppe Currao and his wife Antonia Festina. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Thirty-three year-old Filippo and 29 year-old Onofria were married at the St. Michele church in Sciacca on April 13, 1665. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) They are the parents of two ancestors.

Only five St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Philippo and Honiphria de Abruzzo as follows — ancestor Francesco, named after his paternal grandfather; Giuseppe, named after his maternal grandfather, was born and baptized as Joseph Paulus Joannus Baptrista on the morning of January 26, 1667, but probably died young; ancestor Calogero, was given the male version of his paternal grandmother’s name; Antonino was born and baptized as Vitus Antonius on the morning of May 29, 1671, grew up to marry Laria Gagliano in Sciacca on February 18, 1697; and Giuseppe, who was born and baptized as Joseph Antonius on the morning of November 18, 1674.

It is not known when Filippo and Onofria died, but it is documented that they were both deceased when their son, ancestor Francesco was married on August 15, 1688. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Leonardo Tigano was born on July 28, 1640, in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and baptized as Leonardus Nicolaus the next day n the mother church parish there, the son of Giuseppe Tigano and his wife Maria Trapani. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

In May of 1664, Sciacca church banns were read for Leonardo to marry Pietra Vitrano. She was born and baptized as Petra Caterina, after her paternal grandmother, on July 26, 1650, in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Giacomo Vitrano and his wife Angela Failla. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Twenty-three year-old Leonardo and 13 year-old Pietra were married at the mother church in Sciacca on June 11, 1664. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Eleven mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Leonardo and Petra Tigano as follows — Angela Maria was born and baptized on May 5, 1669; Giuseppa was born and baptized as Josepha Angela on May 24, 1670; ancestor Onofrio; Giovanni was born and baptized as Joannis Joseph on the evening of March 9, 1674; Anna was born and baptized as Anna Maria Josepha on March 23, 1676; Mathea Anna Maria was born and baptized on September 21, 1677; Giuseppe was born on October 13, 1680, and baptized the next day as Joseph Joannes Nuntius, who may have died as a child; Francesco Antonino was born and baptized on July 18, 1682; Maria Angela was born and baptized on June 27, 1683; another Giuseppe born on September 5, 1686, and baptized the next day as Joseph Jacobus; and Antonino, who was born and baptized as Antonius Paphnutius on June 12, 1689.

It is not known when Pietra died, but it was sometime within the 10 month span between the birth of her last child and April 9, 1690, the date their son ancestor Onofrio was married. Unfortunately, Sciacca death records for that time period are not available for research. Leonardo died on November 8, 1708. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His mother church death record does not list his wife or parents, but states he was 65 years old which is only three years under his actual age. At this time, nothing else is known about them.

Francesco Abruzzo was baptized as Francishello on August 11, 1581, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Accursio Abruzzo and his wife, Margarita Catania. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

On January 13, 1614, Sciacca notary Gaspare Giuffrida filed a notarial marriage contract between Francesco Abruzo and Calogera Armenio. A few days later on January 19th, 26th and February 2nd church banns were read for Francesco Abruzzo to marry Calogera Armenia. She was baptized as Calogeria Crispina on April 1, 1594, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Margarita Fausuni and her husband Vincenzo Armenia.(Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image middle right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Thirty-two year-old Francesco and 19 year-old Calogera were married at the St Michele church in Sciacca on February 8, 1614, and raised a large family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Eleven St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Francesco and Calogera d’ Abruzzo as follows — Carlo Antonino was baptized on November 5, 1614; Antonino Vincenzo on August 23, 1616; Margarita Francesca, named after her maternal grandmother, was baptized on November 12, 1618; Nunzia Calogera was born on August 15, 1620, and baptized the next day; Vito was born on October 14, 1621, and baptized as Vitus Calogerus the next day; Luis Calogerius Accursius was born and baptized on November 14, 1626; Caterina was born and baptized on January 21, 1629; Margarita Angela was born on February 7, 1630, and baptized the next day; ancestor Filippo; Maria was born and baptized on December 12, 1633; and another Vito, who was born and baptized as Vitus Accurius on March 18, 1636.

It is documented that Francesco was deceased, but Calogera was still alive when their son, ancestor Filippo was married on April 13, 1665. Francesco died first and was buried on July 14, 1646. His brief St. Vito burial record lists him as Francisco d'Abruzo age 55, but he was actually 64 years old when he died. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Calogera lived another 20 years, and never remarried. She died and was buried on August 15, 1666, in the mother church (The Basilica of Maria Santissima del Soccorso) cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Her St. Michele burial record lists her as Calogera Abruzzo about 75, but she was actually 72 years old when she died. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Giuseppe Currao and his wife Antonia Festina’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Giuseppe’s surname has been spelled many different ways, Currau, Carrao, Corrao, but mostly Currao.

On September 27, 1629, Sciacca notary Gaspare Falsone filed a notarial marriage contract between Giuseppe Currao and Antonia Festina, that is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Unfortunately, a Sciacca church marriage document can not be found for them. It is most likely that they married in the St. Michele church in October of 1629, as this months marriage records are missing from the register.

Ten St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Antonia Currao as follows — Filippo was born and baptized as Filippus Vincezius on September 17, 1631; Vincenza was born in the evening of May 21, 1633, and baptized as Vincenzia Joanna the next day; ancestor Onofria; Dominico was born and baptized as Dominicus Calogerus on September 14, 1638, but may have died young; another Dominico was born and baptized as Dominicus Phius on May 10, 1641; Vita Brigida was born on September 11, 1644, and baptized the next day; Francisca Crispina was born and baptized on February 9, 1647; Vito was born and baptized as Vitus Philippius on September 27, 1649; Antonino was born and baptized as Antoninus Nunzius on March 25 1652; and Antonia Rosalia was born on August 17, 1654, and baptized the next day.

It is not known when Giuseppe and Antonia died, but it is documented that they were still alive on April 13, 1665, the day their daughter, ancestor Onofria was married. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Giuseppe Tigano was born in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, and baptized as Joseph Vitus at the mother church there on November 17, 1612, the son of Grazia Restivo and her husband Leonardo Tigano. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Giuseppe is the brother of ancestors Francesco, and Giovanna Tigano who married Silvestro Bivona.

In the Sciacca notary records transcribed by Pellegrino Mortillaro in his book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is an entry for a notarial marriage contract that was issued by notary Giacomo Lauro on January 20, 1639, for Giuseppe Tigano and Maria Trapani. She was also probably born and raised in Sciacca, the daughter of Calogero Trapani and his wife, Itria, whose surname is unknown. A few weeks later on February 2nd, 6th and 17th, church banns were read for Giuseppe and Maria to marry. They were married at the mother church in Sciacca ten days later on February 27, 1639. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Nine mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Maria Tigano as follows — ancestor Leonardo; Calogero born on the evening of October 29, 1642, and baptized the next day as Calogerus Dominius; Innocenzia was born and baptized as Innocentia Francesca on December 5, 1644; Francesca was born on March 21, 1647, and baptized the next day as Francesca Beneditta; Grazia was born and baptized as Gratia Aloysia on November 18, 1650; Gaetano was born on May 15, 1656, and baptized the next day as Gaetanus; Accursio was born on September 24, 1657, and baptized the next day as Accusicus Michael Francescus; Vincenzo was born on the evening of December 29, 1660, and baptized the next day as Vincenzius Liberalis Thomas; and Angela Catharina, who was born on October 17, 1664, baptized the next day and died unmarried at 40 years old on October 22, 1701.

It is not known when Giuseppe and Maria died, but they were both still alive when their son ancestor Leonardo was married on June 11, 1664, but deceased when their youngest daughter Angela died in 1701. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Giacomo Vitrano was born on May 2, 1622, and baptized that same day with the Latin name of Jacobus Antonino, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He was the second son of ten known children born to Pietra Pardo and her husband Vincenzo Vitrano. He is also the brother to ancestor Anna Vitrano who married Stefano Costanza.

On June 24, 1649, Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna issued a marriage contract for Giacomo to marry Angela Failla. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) She was born on July 8, 1628, and baptized the next day as Angela Joanna on July 8, 1628, in the St. Vito church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonino Failla and his wife Filippa Chiarello. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image middle right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)A month later on July 25th, 26th and August 1st, church banns were read for them to marry.Twenty-seven year-old Giacomo and 21 year-old Angela were married at the St. Vito church in Sciacca on August 22, 1649. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Nine Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Jacobi and Angela Vitrano, which sometimes is spelled Vetrano. Their first child, ancestor Pietra was baptized in the St. Vito parish and the other eight in the mother church parish. These baptism records are as follows — Filippa was born and baptized as Philippa Anna Francesca on January 21, 1652; Michele was born on October 14, 1653, baptized the next day as Michael Antoninus Vincenzius, and married Ninfa Venezia in Sciacca at St. Michele’s church on February 8, 1682; Anna Catherina was born and baptized on September 11, 1655; Gaetana was born and baptized as Gaetana Anna Jacoba Vita on October 19, 1657; Vincenzo was born and baptized as Vincenzius Antoninus Carlus on December 14, 1659; Giovanna was born and baptized on January 14, 1662, as Joanna Vincenzia and as a 28 year-old spinster married ancestor Vincenzo Muscarneri as his second wife; Antonino Leonardo was born and baptized on December 22, 1664; and Calogera Antonina was born and baptized on October 19, 1672.

It is documented that Giacomo was alive, and Angela was already deceased when their son Michele was married in 1682. Angela died sometime between the birth of her last child in 1672 and Michele’s marriage in 1682, but many burial records are missing for this time period. Giacomo died and was buried in mother church cemetery on September 7, 1695. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)His mother church burial record lists him as Jacobus Vetrano alias Parpagliuni about 75 years old, but he was only 73 when he died. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Accursio Abruzzo’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On August 14, 1579, Accursio married Margarita Catania at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their brief Latin church marrage image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) She was the daughter of Antonino di Catania alias Cayula. There is a mother church baptism index record dated November 21, 1563, that may be for her. (Mouse over and click on her baptism index image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) She is listed as Catania Catinella Margaritella daughter of Antonino, but the matching register record is missing from the file. If this is her, she was at least 15 years old when she married Accursio. A few weeks after the church marriage, on September 8, 1579, Sciacca notary Giacomo Janchino filed a notarial marriage contract for Accurso Abruzzo and Margaritella Catania. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Only three mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Cursio and Margarita di Abruzzo, as follows — ancestor Francesco; Giuseppe was baptized on July 29, 1588; and Angela Flaminia, who was baptized on February 7, 1591. They probably had other children, but these are the only baptism records found for them.

It is not known when Accursio and Margarita died, but it is documented that he was alive when his son ancestor Francesco was married on February 8, 1614. For now nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Vincenzo Armenia and his wife Margarita Fausuni’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On May 28, 1593, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella filed a notarial marriage contract for Vincenzo Armenia and Margaritella Fauzuni. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry image right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) This contract is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s transcription of Sciacca notary records, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. Unfortunately, church marriage records this far back are not available for research.

Only four St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Vin’o and Margarita Armenia as follows — ancestor Calogera; Caterina on May 14, 1596, who grew up to marry Leonardo Gagliano at the Sciacca St. Michele church in 1622; Leonardo Giovanni on November 12, 1598; and Leonarda on November 9, 1599. On some these record their surname was spelled Armania.

It is possible that Margarita died after her last child was born and Vincenzo married again. Because burial records are not available for research this far back, this may just be a coincidence. There is a St. Vito marriage record for a Vincenzo Armenia, son of the deceased Giovanni, who married on December 10, 1601, Isabella (Bella) Abruzzo, the daughter of ancestors Geronimo and Bartola Abruzzo. On their marriage record it does not say he was a widower, so this is very uncertain. But if this is the same Vincenzo, he went on to have other children with Bella.

It is not known when Vincenzo and Margarita died, but it is documented that Vincenzo died sometime between ancestor Calogera’s marriage on February 8, 1614, and her sister Caterina’s marriage on July 25, 1622. For now nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Calogero Trapani and his wife Itria, whose surname is unknown, were probably not from Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, but they lived there for a time. Their ancestries are unknown, but by late 1621, they were living in Sciacca. The only documentation found for them are baptism records which are probably for their younger children. A baptism record for their older child, ancestor Maria or a marriage record for them have not been found in the available Sciacca records. The three mother church baptism records found for the children of Magistro Calogero and Itria Trapani are as follows — Giuseppe, born on the evening of October 11, 1621, and baptized that night as Joseph; Rosalia was born and baptized on September 5, 1625; and Antonia, who was born and baptized on October 27, 1628.

It is not known when Calogero and Itria died, but they were both alive on February 27, 1639, the day their daughter ancestor Maria was married. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~<^>~

Antonino Catania’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Eight mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino or Antonello Catania. None list a mother’s name, so it is not certain that these children are all from the same Antonino, as some baptisms are very close together. They are as follows — Calogero Baldassaro in June of 1548; Vito on July 21, 1552; Beatrice Cunsula on September 4, 1559; Giovanni Francesco was baptized as Joanni Franco on March 17, 1561; another Vito, who was baptized as Vito Joannus on June 16, 1563; ancestor Margarita, who was baptized only 5 months after her brother Vito; Francesco was baptized as Franco Joseppi on October 7, 1565; and Catinella who was baptized on July 13, 1566. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about Antonino Catania.
