Antonino diMino was born on the morning of January 16, 1668, and baptized later that day as Antonino Nicolo deMino in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Maria Salamone and her husband Leonardo diMino. (Mouse over and click on his baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Church banns were read on August 29th, September 5th and 8th of 1700, for Antonino to marry Maria Mantia. She was born on the evening of January 23, 1672, and baptized the next day as Vincentia Maria, also in the mother church parish of in Sciacca, the daughter of Filippa Vitrano and her husband Vito Mantia. (Mouse over and click on her baptism image middle right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Thirty-two year-old Antonino and 28 year-old Maria were married on October 31, 1700, at the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) On this document, she is called Marianne, but on other documents she is just called Maria.

Four baptism records have been found for children of Antonino and Maria Mino. All were baptized in the Sciacca mother church parish as follows — ancestor Dototea; Leonardo, the eldest son named after his paternal grandfather, was born on the evening of December 7, 1704, and baptized as Leonardus Marianus Pellegrinus the next day; Filippa Maria Ignazio was born late on August 2, 1707, and was baptized the next day, named after her maternal grandmother; and Antonino, who was born on the morning of September 14, 1710, was baptized that same day as Antoninus Vitus after his maternal grandfather and is probably the Vito mentioned on the Rivelo (tax record) discussed below. They may have had several other children, but these are the ones documented to date.

There is a July 7, 1714 Rivelo for Antonino and Maria, who are living in the Matrice Quartero, which is the mother church parish of Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Rivelo image middle left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) On it, he is listed as 45 years old, but he was actually 46 years old at the time. His father, Leonardo is listed as deceased, with no mention of his mother. Antonino’s wife Maria is listed only with her given name, no age. Then their four children are listed — 10 year-old Leonardo, who was actually 3 months shy of his 10th birthday; 4 year-old Vito, who was actually 2 months short of his 4th birthday; ancestor Dorotea is listed as Diana; and the last child listed, Filippa, their youngest daughter. The last person on the list is 30 year-old Calogero La Mantia, who is listed as brother, but he is actually Maria’s 33 year-old brother.

It is documented that Antonino and Maria were both alive when their son Leonardo was married on April 10, 1736. Maria died first and was buried in the Convent of St. Francisco outside the city on November 28, 1744. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Maria wife of Antonini di Mino, 75 years old, but she was actually two months short of her 73rd birthday. Antonino died and was buried in the same cemetery as his wife four months later on March 31, 1745. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His mother church burial record lists his as Antoninusi di Mino, about 86 years old, but he was only 77 at the time. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Leonardo diMino was born and baptized as Leonardo Joseph deMino on January 14, 1637, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the eldest son of Margarita Chiaramonte and her husband Vito diMino, and older brother to ancestor Maria Giuseppa. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Leonardo entered into a marriage contract on January 2, 1661, with Maria Salamone. She was also born and baptized in the mother church parish in Sciacca, but a year later on April 25, 1638, as Maria Caterina Salamuni, the daughter of Diana Castronovo and Antonino Salamone. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Three weeks after the contract was made, church banns were read on January 23rd, 30th and February 2nd for Leonardo to marry Maria. They were married at the mother church in Sciacca on February 13, 1661. (Mouse over and click on their Latin Church marriage image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Documentation has been found for six children of Leonardo and Maria Mino, all baptized at the mother church in Sciacca on the dates shown — eldest daughter Margarita Filippa on December 29, 1661, was named after her father’smother; eldest son Vito Alberto on April 26, 1664, was named after his father’s father, and married a woman named Francesca and had at least three children; ancestor Antonino; Nicolaus Aidasus on May 19, 1671, who may have died before the next Nicolaus was baptized; Nicolaus Domenico on August 23, 1676; and Maria Magdelana Anna on July 22, 1680.

It is documented that Leonardo and Maria were both alive when their son ancestor Antonino was married on October 31, 1700. Leonardo was listed as deceased on both of his sons tax records, the earliest dated July 7, 1714, so he died sometime in that 14 year span. There is a March 20, 1714, mother church burial record for his name, that is probably for ancestor Leonardo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He is listed as Leonardus deMino alias Salamone age 88 years old, who was buried in the Convent of St Dominico cemetery. Using his wife’s surname as an alias seems to support this is ancestor Leonardo, but he was actually only 77 years old when he died. It is not known yet when Maria died. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Vito diMino was baptized on June 5, 1614, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonella Bivona and her husband Leonardo diMino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

On October 12th, 21st and 28th, banns were read in church for Vito to marry Margarita Chiaramonte. She was baptized on December 20, 1618, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Maria Saittuni and her husband Vito Chiaramonte. (Mouse over and click on her baptism image middle right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Being that she was named after her father’s mother, she was most likely the eldest daughter. Twenty-one year-old Vito and 16 year-old Margherita were married on November 4, 1635, in the mother church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their marriage document image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

There is a May 9, 1652, Sciacca Rivelo (tax record) for this family. (Mouse over and click on their Rivelo record image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Both of Vito’s parents given names are listed as deceased. Vito is listed as being 36 years old, but he was almost 38 years old at this time. His wife Margarita’s given name is listed in abbreviated form and then their children as follows — eldest son ancestor Leonardo is listed as 15 years old, which is his correct age; second son 2 year-old Benedetto, born about 1650; and a daughter Anna, whose age is not listed, but she married Sebastiano Castronovo on February 19, 1661, a few days after her brother ancestor Leonardo’s marriage.

Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Vito and Margarita Mino as follows — eldest son ancestor Leonardo; Benedetto was born and baptized as Benedittus Antoninus, after his maternal grandfather, on October 14, 1639, and probably died before 1650; Maria Antonina was born and baptized as Maria Antonia Anna on November 27, 1642; Caterina Antonia was born on January 7, 1645, and baptized the next day; Benedetto who is named on the tax record, was born on March 26, 1650, and baptized the next day as Benedius Joseph; Anna Francesca was born and baptized on January 19, 1652, is also named on the tax record; ancestor Maria Giuseppa as Maria Josepha on March 30, 1653; and Gaetano was born on January 26, 1658, and baptized the next day as Gaetanus Josephus Paolus.

It is documented that Vito and Margarita were both still alive when their daughter ancestor Maria was married on April 18, 1667. It is not known when Margarita died, but Vito died and was buried in the St. Francesco de Paulo cemetery on November 7, 1671. His mother church burial record lists him as Vitus de Mino age about 63, but he was actually only 57 years old when he died. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) For now, this is all that is known about Margarita and Vito.

Antonino Salamone was baptized in the mother church parish of  Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy on September 1, 1608, the son of Margherita (surname unknown) and Pietro Salamone. (Mouse over and click on his baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) It should be noted that the Salamone surname is spelled Salamuni on various records.

Church banns were read on April 13th and 18th for Antonino to marry Diana Castronovo. She was baptized on October 12, 1613, in the mother church parish of  Sciacca as Andriana, the daughter of Costanza (surname unknown) and Calogero Castronovo. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Twenty-three year-old Antonino and 18 year-old Diana were married at the mother church in Sciacca on April 26, 1632. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) They were the parents of two female ancestors.

Nine Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Diane Salamone or Salamuni as follows — Calogera Margarita was born and baptized on September 10, 1633; ancestor Maria; Nicolaus Petrus Dominicus was born and baptized on March 7, 1640; Leonardo was born and baptized as Leonardus Joseph on September 24, 1641; Accursius Nicolaus was born and baptized on May 27, 1644; Angela Sancta was baptized as an infant on April 23, 1647; Antonia was born on the evening of December 18, 1649, and baptized the next day as Antonia Josepha; Accursio was born on February 17, 1651, and baptized the next day as Accursius Rosarius; and ancestor Caterina.

The only thing known about Antonino and Diana’s parents, is they were all alive when their children were married in 1613. It is not known when Antonino and Diana died, but he was deceased when their daughter ancestor Maria was married on February 13, 1661, but his wife Diana was still alive at that time. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Leonardo diMino’s ancestry is uncertain at this time, but he may have been from Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. There are two Sciacca mother church baptism records that could be his. The first is dated March 6, 1583, in the name of Pietro Nardo Mineo, son of Giacomo di Mino and Pietra. The second is dated November 6, 1588, in the name of Gio: Leonardo, son of Nardo and Bella Mino. Either one of them could be for him, but there is no evidence that either one is for him.

On October 17, 1610, at the mother church in Sciacca, Nardo married Antonella Bivona. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) She was baptized in the mother church parish of Sciacca on February 1, 1590, the daughter of Antonino Bivona and his wife Elisabetta, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Leonardo and Antonella’s marriage document is difficult to read and her surname seems to be abbreviated. They are the parents of two ancestors, Vito whose descendants go down the Marotta line, and Antonino whose descendants go down the Sabella line.

Five mother church baptisms have been found for the children of Nardo and Antonia di Mino as follows — Pasquale as Pasquali on July 30, 1611; ancestor Vito; Biaggia baptized as Blasia Margarita on February 3, 1617; ancestor Antonino, named after his maternal grandfather; and an unnamed child who was born and baptized on September 12, 1621, who probably died shortly after birth, but a burial record could not be found for this child. Note that none of these children were named after either set of Leonardo’s possible parents listed above.

On ancestor Vito’s November 4, 1635, marriage document, his parents are listed as the deceased Leonardi and Antonina diMino. They are also listed like this on both of their sons, Pasquale’s and ancestor Antonino’s marriage records dated January 26, 1637, and January 8, 1640, respectively. This usually means both parents are deceased. Mother church burial records support that Leonardo was deceased before November 4, 1635, but they do not support Antonella being deceased before that date. There is a burial record for Leonardus di Mino who was buried in the St. Francesco cemetery on August 12, 1622, that is probably be for ancestor Leonardo. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He is listed as being 30 years old, but death ages are usually just an estimate. He was probably in his mid to late 30’s when he died. There is also a burial record in these files for Antonia deMino, who was buried in the mother church cemetery on May 14, 1636. Her age is listed as 44, which puts her birth to about 1592, which is only two years off of her actual birth. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) So this record is most likely for ancestor Antonella, who would have been 46 years old when she died. For now, this is all that is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Vito Chiaramonte was baptized on July 5, 1591, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Margarita Finochio and her husband Benedetto Chiaramonte. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) He is also the brother of ancestor Antonella who married Antonino Turturici. This Chiaramonte family used an alias of Marotta on some documents.

On January 14th, 21st and 28th of 1618, church banns were read for Vito, son of Benedicto Marotta, to marry Maria Saittuni. She was baptized as Margarita on November 23, 1595, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Caterina Maistro and her husband Nicolá Saittuni. (Mouse over and click on her baptism image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Twenty-six year-old Vito and 22 year-old Maria were married on February 4, 1618, in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Three months later, on May 8, 1618, in Sciacca,Vito entered into a dowry restitution contract with Maria's family. This contract was probably made because Maria was now pregnant with their first child.  (See the first page image of this contract in her parent's bio below.) The contract was doumented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s transcriptions of the Sciacca notarial records in his book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Vito and Maria  had at least two other children other than ancestor Maria, who were baptized in the mother church parish as follows— Benedetto, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized with the surname of Marotta, married on January 12, 1653, as Chiaramonte alias Marotta, at the mother church in Sciacca, Caterina Vetrano, who was the sister of ancestor Giacomo, and the daughter of ancestors Pietra Pardo and her husband Vincenzo Vetrano; and another son Antonino Nicolaus who was born and baptized with the surname of Chiaramonte on December 9, 1622.

It is not known when Vito and Maria died, but they were still alive when their daughter ancestor Maria was married on November 4, 1635, but deceased by the time their son Benedetto was married in 1653. So they both died sometime within that 18 year span.

Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

Antonino Bivona and his wife Elisabetta’s ancestries are unknown. What is documented is that they lived and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, but a Sciacca marriage record or contract can not be found for them. Three mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Antonino and Betta di bivona as follows — a son Giovanni was baptized as Gio Filippo on September 14, 1585; ancestor Antonella; and a daughter Vita on December 28, 1593. They probably had other children, but these are the ones documented to date.

It is not known when Antonino and Elisabetta died, but it is documented that he was deceased on October 17, 1610, when their daughter ancestor Antonella was married. Master Antonino di Bivona died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on April 11, 1609. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) His brief mother church burial record gives no other information about him. Unfortunately, at this time, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Benedetto Chiaramonte’s ancestry is unknown, but he married and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. On September 4, 1580, Sciacca notary Giovanni Vella issued a notarial contract in Sciacca for Benedetto to marry Margarita Finochio. Margarita was baptized on March 18, 1565, at the mother church in Sciacca, the daughter of Filippo Finochio and his unknown wife. (Mouse over and click on her baptism record image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Their marriage contract is documented in Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Benedetto and 15 year-old Margarita were married at the mother church the same day the marriage contract was filed. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) They are the parents of two ancestors.

Nine mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Benedetto and Margarita Chiaramonte as follows — Giovanna was baptized as Joanna Brigita on November 20, 1584; Leonarda was baptized as Narda Petra on November 3, 1586; Giuseppe Gregrio on March 12, 1589; ancestor Vito; Francesco Luca on October 23, 1594; daughter Vicencia on August 6, 1596; Antonino Vito on October 22, 1598; daughter Simeona on October 28, 1600; and Costanza Calogera who was baptized on May 15, 1603. A baptism record for their daughter ancestor Antonella has not yet been found, but she was probably born in the 4 year gap after her parents married and their first recorded child was baptized.

It is not known when Benedetto and Margarita died, but they both were alive when their son ancestor Vito was married on May 8, 1618. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

Nicolá Saittuni’s ancestry is unknown, but he was probably from the Genova province of Liguria, Italy as he is called ginuisi on their married record. He married and raised a family in Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy.

On August 9, 1593, at the mother church of Sciacca, Cola married 21 year-old Caterina Maistro. (Mouse over and click on their Latin marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) She was baptized as Caterinella on September 30, 1571, in the Sciacca mother church parish, daughter of Pietro Maistro and his wife Antonina, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her baptism image upper right to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Six mother church baptism records have been found for their children as follows — Andria Matteo on September 20, 1594; ancestor Maria; Vita Beatria on June 15, 1600, who married Vincenzo Gatto at the mother church on November 27, 1621; a daughter whose name is difficult to read, that looks like Deodata or it could be Debora on June 26, 1601; Francesco Calogero Giuseppe on October 3, 1603; and another daughter whose name is difficult to read, Itria Gerlanda on February 27, 1606.

Nicolá died on June 15, 1607, a year after his last child was born, leaving his wife with young children. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window/tab.) It is not known if Caterina married again, but it doesn’t seem likely, because how she is referenced on the first page of  her daughter ancestor Maria’s May 8, 1618, Sciacca marriage contract. Throughout this document, Caterina is always called Caterina Saittuni, so it doesn’t appear that she remarried. This document is written in Latin, but with much help in translation and observations from Nicolas, the admin, and group expert of the Italian Genealogical Records Facebook Group, information about the family has come to light. (Mouse over and click on their Latin marriage contract record left to enlarge in a new window/tab.)

Nicolá was deceased when his daughter Maria was married in 1618, but his wife Caterina was alive. Because of this, Caterina provided the dowry, in the name of herself and as legal guardian for her underaged son Giuseppe, along with her adult son Andrea. Nicolas speculates that Nicolá might have “died without a will, his children and his wife inherited through a set of default heirs that exist when one dies without a will.” He goes on to say “My assumption is that they’re using their portion of the estate they got from the father to provide for Maria’s dowry. I believe this because it says that Caterina is giving money to Maria as her dowry in her name (that is from Caterina’s own funds/money she got from the estate) and the money her minor son Giuseppe got but since he’s a minor she’s his legal guardian and thus taking the Giuseppe’s portion because she is the one who has the authority to administer Giuseppe’s money until he becomes of legal age. In Andrea’s case, he’s of legal age so she can’t be his legal guardian so he is providing for his own sister because he wants to or because he feels obligated to help out.” This seems to be a common occurrence and makes perfect sense in this situation.

It is not known when Caterina died, but it was sometime after this 1618 dowry document was created. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.

~< Back to Chart >~

Filippo Finochio’s ancestry is unknown, but he lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage or contract could not be found for him.

There are eight mother church baptism records for children of Pho Finochio, but it is not known if they are all for the same Filippo as some have different mother’s listed. The first four have no mother listed and the last four have two different mothers listed as follows — Calogera was baptized on June 19, 1561; Francesco Joseph on January 13, 1563; ancestor Margarita; Benuinuta on April 24, 1570; Ximuni Francesco on July 14, 1572, had a mother listed as Lucretia; Vincenzo, who was baptized as Basatiano Vincenzo, also had a mother listed as Lucretia, he grew up and married Lucrecia di Bivona in Sciacca on February 11, 1596; Petro on March 17, 1577, had a mother listed as Angilella; and Maria, whose mother was listed as Angela, was baptized on August 15, 1582. It does make sense that the first six children are in the same family and are ancestor Margarita’s full siblings. If so, it is possible that Lucretia is ancestor Margarita’s mother. The last two could be her half siblings, but there is no documentation to support any of this.

Nothing else is known about Filippo, except that he was alive when his daughter ancestor Margarita was married in 1580. If ancestor Filippo is the father of Vincenzo, both Filippo and Lucrecia were still alive on February 11, 1596, when Vincenzo was married. Unfortunately, nothing else is known about them.
