Giuseppe Fiorentino was born and baptized as Calogero Joseph, on the evening of March 23, 1654, in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Beatrix Pitzella and her husband Tommaso Fiorentino. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On June 10th, 11th and 16th of 1680, church banns were read for Joseph to marry Antonia Sclafani. She was born and baptized as Vincenzia Maria Antonia on May 30, 1662, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Rosalie Coco and her husband Calogero Sclafani. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A few days after the last banns were read, 26 year-old Giuseppe married 18 year-old Antonia on June 18, 1680, at the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Antonia Fiorentino as follows — Leonarda was born on August 11, 1681, and baptized as Leonarda Josepha Anna the next day and on April 10, 1701, married Dominico Bivona, the grandson of ancestors Antonio Bivona and Maria Benivento and ancestors Vincenzo Tigano and Vincenza Colmone; Tommaso, named after his paternal grandfather, was born and baptized as Thomas Ant’ius Calog’ius on the evening of December 20, 1682, and was listed with an alias Mauri on his November 3, 1709, marriage document to Maria Cuccio; six years after Tommaso was baptized, ancestor Rose was baptized, named after her maternal grandmother; Calogero was an infant when he was baptized as Calogerus Paulus Francesco on January 3, 1690, and in 1714 married Rosa Cusumano; Francesco was born on August 25, 1692, and baptized as Francescius Joannes Thomas the next day; Vincenzia Francesca Beatrix was born and baptized on the evening of October 19, 1693; Anna Angela Leonarda was born on October 28, 1699, and baptized the next day; Petra Stephana Ignazia was born on the morning of August 19, 1702, and was baptized the next day and Michele, who was born and baptized as Michael Matheius Joannes on August 19, 1707 and in 1731 married Aloysia Musso. Giuseppe and Antonia may have had other children in the 6 year gap before ancestor Rose was born, but no other Sciacca baptism records have been found.
It is documented that both Giuseppe and Antonia were alive when they daughter ancestor Rose was married on November 12, 1710. It is also documented that Giuseppe was deceased when his son Calogero was married on January 13, 1714. Giuseppe died at home and was buried in the St. Maria de Monte Carmelo cemetery on May 27, 1712. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him as Joseph Fiorintino alias Mauro, 60 years old which is close to his actual age of 58. The Mauro alias may be a reference to his grandfather’s given name. It is not known if Antonia remarried or where and when she died, but it is documented that she was alive when her son Michele was married on June 10, 1731. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Tommaso Fiorentino was baptized as Thomas on December 21, 1615, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Mauro Fiorentino and his wife Vincenza, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
On January 22nd, 29th and February 2nd of 1640, church banns were read for Thomas to marry Beatrice Pitrella. She was named after her maternal grandmother, and baptized on May 21, 1619, in the St Vito parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Aleonora Barbera and her husband Vito Pitrella. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Twenty-four year old Thomas and 20 year old Beatricem were married on February 5, 1640, at the St. Vito church in Sciacca. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They lived and raised a family in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca.
Six Sciacca St. Vito baptism records have been found for the children of Thomas and Beatrice Fiorentino as follows — Antonino was born and baptized as Antonino Silvester Vitus on the morning of December 31, 1640, and married Maria Antonia Bivona, the daughter of ancestors Giovanna Tigano and Silvestro Bivona on January 17, 1667; Vincenza, named after her paternal grandmother, was born on the evening of August 9, 1643, and baptized as Vincenzia Laurenzia the next day; Vita was born on April 30, 1647, and baptized as Vita Philippina the next day; Leonardo was born and baptized as Leonardus Calogerus on February 18, 1651; ancestor Giuseppe; and Vincenzo, who was born and baptized as Vincentius Michael on the morning of September 29, 1660. There was at least one other child, whose baptism record has not been found, a son Giovanni, who married twice. On both of his marriage records, his parents are clearly listed. On his first marriage to Isabella Giametta, the record is dated November 27, 1684, and his parents are listed as the deceased Thomas and living Beatrix. After Giovanni’s first wife died, he married on August 12, 1722, Antonina Abruzzo, the daughter of ancestors Anna Sabella and Francesco Abruzzo. On this record he is listed with an alias of Mauri and his parents are listed as the deceased Thomas and deceased Beatrice Pitzella.
It is not known when Tommaso died, but it is documented it was after his son Antonino’s marriage on January 17, 1667, but before June 18, 1680, the date his son ancestor Giuseppe’s married. A burial record for Tommaso has not been found in all three church burial records that are available for research. Unfortunately, the records after 1674 to 1690 are missing, so he probably died sometime between 1675 and 1680. Beatrice lived many more years and never remarried. She died and was buried in the St. Maria de Monte Carmelo church cemetery on October 5, 1708. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Beatrix wife of deceased Thome Firintino about 90 years old, but she was only 89 when she died. This is all that is known about them at this time.

Calogero Sclafani was born and baptized as Petrus Calogerus, on the evening of June 30, 1622, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonella Maglienti and her husband Giovanni Pietro Sclafani. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He is also the brother of ancestor Antonio. Like his father, Calogero went by his middle name.
On December 6, 1643, Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna filed a notarial marriage contract for Calogero to marry Caterina Trapani. She was the eldest daughter of ancestors Bartola Pirruni and Giuseppe Trapani and the sister of ancestor Vito Trapani. On January 1st, 3rd and 6th of the next year, church banns were read for them to marry. Twenty-one year old Calogero married almost 31 year-old Caterina on January 24, 1644, at the Sciacca mother church. They had one child together — Pietro, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on October 21, 1644, and baptized as Petrus Accursius Dominicius the next day. Sadly Caterina died and was buried in the St. Augustini church cemetery on December 27, 1645, leaving Calogero with a one year old child.
Calogero did not remarry right away. Almost 3 years later on November 3rd, 8th and 22nd of 1648, church banns were read for Calogero to marry Rosalia Coco. She was born and baptized as Rosalia Calogera on December 7, 1631, in the mother church parish of Sciacca the daughter of Caterina Torre and her husband Francisco Coco. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record upper middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Six days after the last banns were read, the now 26 year-old Calogero married the almost 17 year-old Rosalia on November 28, 1648, in the Sciacca mother church and they had a very large family. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record image upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Fourteen Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero and Rosalia Sclafani as follows — Mautinus Franc’ius was born and baptized on November 11, 1649; Francisco, named after his maternal grandfather, was born on August 14, 1650, and baptized as Franciscus Nunzius the next day, but probably died young; another Francisco was born and baptized as Franc’us Phius on August 13, 1651; Leonardo was born and baptized as Leonardius Salvator Albertus on August 12, 1653; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Leonardus Stefanus on March 15, 1655, but died 3 months later on July 12th; another Giuseppe was born on the evening of May 4, 1656, and baptized as Joseph Gaetanus Barnaba the next day; Antonino was born on the evening of March 19, 1659, and baptized as Antoninus Joseph the next day; Bernardo was born on the evening of June 2, 1661, and baptized as Bernardus Stefanus the next day; ancestor Antonia, the first female was named after her paternal grandmother; Onofrio was born and baptized as Honuphius Stephanus on February 16, 1664; Caterina Vincenzia Maria, named after her maternal grandmother, was born on the evening of October 9, 1667, and baptized the next day; Vincenzio was born on the evening of June 15, 1669, and baptized as Vincentius Honophrius Vitus the next day; Gaspar Sebastianus was born and baptized on August 12, 1670, and may have died young; and Biaggio, who was born on the evening of March 21, 1672, and baptized as Blasius Honuphrius Vincenzius the next day.
A year after her last child was born, Rosalia died and was buried in the church of St. Dominico cemetery on May 8, 1673. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Rosalia wife of Calogeri Sclafani about 45 years old, but she was only 41 when she died. Again Calogero was widowed, but this time with many more young children, so a year later he remarried for a third time.
On March 25th, 26th and 27th of 1674, church banns were read for Calogero to marry Nunzia Pojo, who becomes an ancestor. She was born and baptized as Calogera Nunzia on December 29, 1634, in the St. Michele parish, the daughter of Giuseppe Pojo and his wife Vita Bellito. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record lower middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Because her mother died when she was very young, she was raised by her stepmother Caterina, who is listed as her mother on their marriage record. The now 51 year-old Calogero and 39 year-old Nunzia were married on April 2, 1674, in the Sciacca St. Michele church. They had two children together, both baptized in the Sciacca mother church as follows — ancestor Gaspare, who married Caterina Imbornone; and Melchior, who was born and baptized as Melcheor Joseph Calogerus on April 12, 1678.
It is not known exactly when Calogero died, but it was documented that he was alive when his last child Melchior was born, and deceased by the time his daughter, ancestor Antonia was married on June 18, 1680. So he died sometime in that two year span, but burial records are missing for this time period.Nunzia lived another 20 years and never remarried. She died at home and was buried in the Convent of St. Dominico church cemetery on August 4, 1699, four months short of her 65th birthday. (Mouse over and click on her Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Nunzia wife of deceased Calogeri Sclafani alias Tillo, 65 years old. For now, this is all that is known about them. |

Mauro Fiorentino and his wife Vincenza’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record or contract could not be found for them, but they married sometime before in or 1603.
Six Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Mauro and Vinc’za Fiorentino, the first four and last child were baptized in the mother church parish and the 5th in the St. Michele parish. The records found are as follows — Pietro was baptized as Petrius Dom’co on October 3, 1603, but may have died young; Margarita on January 11, 1606; another Pietro was baptized as Petro Paulo on January 25, 1607; Giovanni was baptized as Jo: Alberto on August 7, 1609, and married Leonarda diMino in 1630; ancestor Tommaso was the only one baptized in the St. Michele parish; and Francesca Catharina on June 30, 1618.
It is not known when Mauro and Vincenza died, but it is documented that he was deceased on January 7, 1630, when his son Giovanni was married. He died sometime in the more than 11 years after his last child was born and Giovanni’s marriage, but a burial record has not yet been found for him. For now, this is all that is known about them. |

Vito Pitrella was baptized as Greg’o Vito on November 24, 1586, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Caterina Venezia and her husband Giuseppe Pitrella. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It should be noted that their surname has also been spelled as Pitzello.
On September 7th, 8th and 14th of 1614, church banns were read for Vito to marry Aleonora Barbera. A Sciacca baptism record could not be found for her, but she was probably born prior to available records in the St. Vito parish of Sciacca, which start in 1588, the daughter of Leonardo Barbera and his wife Beatrice whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) All that is known about Aleonora’s parents is that they had another daughter, Julia Calogera who was baptized on November 11, 1589, in the St. Vito parish. Twenty-seven year-old Vito and Aleonora, who was probably in her early to mid 20’s, were married at the Sciacca St. Vito church on September 21, 1614. Her given name is also listed as Leonora on some records.
Six Sciacca St. Vito baptism records have been found for the children of Vito and Aleonora Pitrella as follows — Giuseppe, named after his paternal grandfather, was baptized as Joseph Franc’o on January 23, 1616, and married Francisca Romano in 1644; ancestor Beatrice was named after her maternal grandmother; Leonarda was born and baptized on January 20, 1622; Leonardo, named after his maternal grandfather, was born and baptized on February 26, 1623; Francesco Leonardo was born and baptized on May 28, 1627; and Vita Bartola, who was born on August 23, 1629, and baptized the next day.
It is documented that both Vito and Aleonora were alive when their son Giuseppe was married on January 31, 1644. Aleonora died and was buried in the St. Vito church cemetery on March 8, 1648. (Mouse over and click on her burial image lower left to enlarge in a new window/tab.) Her St. Vito burial record lists her as Leonora wife of Viti Pitrella about 55 years old, which puts her birth to about 1593. Almost eight months later Vito died and was buried is the same cemetery as his wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Vito burial record lists him simply as Viti Pitrella 60 years old, but he was a month short of his 62nd birthday. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Giuseppe Pojo was baptized on March 15, 1596, in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Leonardo Pojo and his wife Nunzia, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Not much is known about Giusppe’s youth and parents. What is documented is that he had a brother named Leonardo Giuseppe, who was baptized on November 6, 1597, also in the St. Michele parish of Sciacca. It is also documented that his father was listed as the deceased master Leonardo Poio on Giuseppe’s first marriage record.
On November 1, 1621, Sciacca notary Antonino Amico filed a notarial marriage contract for Giuseppe to marry Vita Bellitto. She was baptized as Vita Antonina on March 2, 1606, in the Sciacca mother church parish, the daughter of Calogero Bellitto and his wife Aloysia, whose surname is unknown. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It should be noted that the surname Bellitto is sometimes spelled Billetto. Twenty-five year old Giuseppe and 15 year-old Vita were married in the Sciacca mother church on November 27, 1621. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Six St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Vita Lo Pojo, which is sometimes spelled Poio as follows — Francesca Antonia was born on the evening of February 28, 1623, and baptized the next day; Leonardo, named after his paternal grandfather, was born on November 6, 1624, baptized the next day and married Antonia Venzia in 1651; Calogero, named after his maternal grandfather was born and baptized as Calogerus Leonardo on July 18, 1627; Michele was born on December 31, 1629, and was baptized as Michael Gaspar the next day; Petra Vincenza was born on the evening of October 21, 1632, and baptized the next day; and ancestor Nunzia, who was named after her paternal grandmother.
Sometime within a year after her last child was born, Vita died. An exact date is not known because Sciacca burial records are not available for research during this time period. On January 27th and February 1st and 3rd of 1636, church banns were read for Joseph Poÿo to marry Catharina Benedici. The now almost 40 year-old Giuseppe married again on the date the last banns were read, February 3, 1636, in the Sciacca St. Michele church. This record does not state that Giuseppe was a widower, but because his daughter ancestor Nunzia lists her stepmother’s name, Caterina, as her mother on her marriage record, it is almost certain that this is ancestor Giuseppe’s marriage.
Three St. Michele baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Catherina Pojo as follows — Accursia Jacoba was born and baptized on December 16, 1636, but probably died young; Accursia Joanna was born on April 29, 1638, and baptized the next day; and Paola Benvinuta, who was born on the evening of January 24, 1640, and baptized the next day.
It is documented that Giuseppe was deceased on August 27, 1651, the date that his son Leonardo was married. Joseph Pojo wrote his will, testamento, and it was filed by Sciacca notary Raffaele Bentivegna on February 23, 1642. A few days later he died and was buried in the St. Francisca de Paulo church cemetery on February 26, 1642. (Mouse over and click on his Latin church burial record image lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His St. Michele burial record lists him as Joseph Poio about 35 years old, but he was actually two weeks short of his 46th birthday. Two days later on the 28th, an inventory of his property was recorded by the same notary. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Pietro Sclafani was baptized as Jo: Petro on July 1, 1583, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Antonina Niacafasi and her husband Giuseppe Sclafani. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He is also the older brother to ancestor Accursia Sclafani who married Vincenzo Maglienti.
On January 19th, 20th and 25th of 1609, church banns were read for Pietro to marry Antonella Maglienti. She was the daughter of Agatuzia Liotta and her husband Giulio Maglienti. A baptism record could not be found for Antonella, but she was probably baptized about 1685, before records are available, in either the St. Vito or St. Michele parishes of Sciacca. Antonella is also the sister of ancestor Vincenzo, the husband of Accursia Sclafani mentioned above. Twenty-five year-old Pietro and Antonella were married at the Sciacca mother church on January 26, 1609, the day after the last banns were read. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) They are the parents of two male ancestors.
Ten Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Petro and Antonella Sclafani, the first seven in the mother church parish and the last three in the St. Michele parish as follows — Francisca Caterina was baptized on November 26, 1610; Biaggio was baptized as Blasi on March 22, 1612, and married Giovanna Porta on April 10, 1644; Carlo Vito was baptized on October 5, 1614, and married Maria Fauci on November 18, 1635; Francesa Matthia was born on the evening of February 24, 1620, and baptized the next day; ancestor Calogero; Vita Rosalea was born on July 4, 1625, and baptized the next day; ancestor Antonio was the first to be baptized in the St. Michele parish, and married Calogera Trapani, the sister of ancestor Vito Trapani and also the sister to Caterina who was the first wife of ancestor Calogero mentioned above; Paolo was born and baptized as Paulus Carolus on November 4, 1630; and Margarita Elsabeth, who was born on April 13, 1634, and baptized the next day.
It is documented that both Pietro and Antonella were alive on February 16, 1649, the date of their son ancestor Antonio’s marriage. There is an April 9, 1664, St. Michele burial record for a Pietro Sclafani who died at home and was buried in the St. Dominici church cemetery that could be for this ancestor. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) It reads, Petrus Sclafani about 95 years old, but his age is off by 15 years, as ancestor Pietro would have been 80 years old on this date. A burial record for Antonella has not been found, so the is all that is known about them. |

Francisco Coco was baptized as Giovanni Battista Francisco on January 13, 1596, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Perna Bonanno and her husband Antonino Coco. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) He is also the younger brother of ancestor Margarita who married Sebastiano Foti.
On March 2, 1619, Sciacca notary Andrea Gaudio filed a notarial marriage contract for Francisco to marry Caterina Torre. She was baptized as Caterina Leonarda on June 2, 1602, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Antonina Santangelo and her husband Vincenzo Torre. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Church marriage banns were then read on April 1st, 2nd and 7th for them. The next day, 23 year-old Francisco and 16 year-old Caterina were married in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Seven Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Franc’o & Catherina lo Coco as follows — Antonina Vita, named after her maternal grandmother, was born and baptized on January 5, 1620, but probably died young; Antonina Maria was born and baptized on May 16, 1623; Giuseppe was born and baptized as Joseph Antonino, given a middle name after his paternal grandfather, on September 17, 1624, but probably died young; Stefano was born and baptized as Stephanus Giovanni Battista on December 26, 1625; another Giuseppe was born on the evening of January 17, 1629, and baptized as Joseph Antonino the next day; ancestor Rosalia; and Bartolomeo Vincenzo Leonardo, who was born and baptized by the midwife because he was in imminent danger of death, on the evening of August 24, 1634, six months after his father’s death.
It is documented that Francisco was deceased and Caterina was alive on November 28, 1648, when their daughter ancestor Rosalia was married. Francisco died and was buried in the mother church cemetery on February 25, 1634. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His mother church burial record lists him simply as Franciscius de Coco 43 years old, but he was actually 38 when he died. Caterina lived more than 34 years after her husband’s death and never remarried. She died at home and was buried in the St. Dominici church cemetery on October 24, 1668. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Catharina relic of the deceased Francisci Coco about 60 years old, but she was actually 66 when she died. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Giuseppe Pitrella was baptized as Vincenzius Joseppi on May 28, 1559, in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy, the son of Giovanni Pitrella and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on his Latin baptism record upper right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) At this time nothing is known about Giuseppe’s youth or his father and mother.
On September 26, 1583, Sciacca notary Martino Russo filed a notarial marriage contract for Giuseppe to marry Caterina Venezia. (Mouse over and click on their marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was baptized as Catirnella, on February 13, 1569, also in the mother church parish of Sciacca, the daughter of Giovanni Venezia and his unnamed wife. (Mouse over and click on her Latin baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) At this time nothing is known about Caterina’s youth or her father and mother. Less than a week after the contract was filed, 24 year-old Giuseppe married 14 year-old Caterina in the Sciacca mother church. (Mouse over and click on their Latin church marriage record middle left to enlarge in a new window or tab.)
Nine Sciacca baptism records have been found for the children of Joseph and Catarina Pitrella, the first two in the mother church parish and the last seven in the St. Vito parish as follows — Giovanna, named after her two grandfathers, was baptized as Joanna Minica on October 4, 1584, but may have died young; ancestor Vito; Natali was baptized on December 14, 1589, and married Leonarda Catanisi in 1617; another Giovanna was baptized as Joannas on June 24, 1593; Antonella was baptized on September 12, 1596; Margarita on March 14, 1599; Vincenzio on November 7, 1602; Alberto was baptized as Berto on December 8, 1604; and Crispina, who was baptized on October 24, 1607, and married Vincenzo Marinello in 1629.
It is documented that both Giuseppi and Caterina were alive when their son Natali was married on April 10, 1617, and deceased when their daughter Crispina was married on April 26, 1629. Giuseppe died and was buried in the St. Margarita church cemetery on May 10, 1618. (Mouse over and click on his Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) His very brief St. Vito burial record lists only his name and where he was buried. Caterina did not remarry after her husband died. Ten years later, Caterina died at home in the middle of the night on June 12-13, 1628, and was buried on the 13th in the St. Maria church cemetery. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her St. Vito burial record lists her as Cat’na of the deceased Joseph Pitrella died in her home, last night, age 55, but she was actually 59 when she died. For now, this is all that is known about them.

Calogero Bellitto and his wife Aloysia’s ancestries are unknown, but they lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. A Sciacca church marriage record or a notarial marriage contract could not be found for them.
Eight Sciacca mother church baptism records have been found for the children of Calogero and Aloysia Bellitto, sometimes spelled Billetto, as follows — Francesco Blasio was baptized on February 29, 1600, and married Antonina Monaco on January 6, 1623; Vita on October 25, 1601, and may have died young; Nympha Revosia was baptized on January 18, 1603; Leonardo on July 15, 1604; ancestor Vita; Francisco Andrea was baptized on November 13, 1607, and on February 17, 1624, married Margarita Pumilia, the daughter of ancestors Giuseppe and Crisina Pumilia; Giovanna was baptized as Gioanna on January 8, 1609, but may have died young; and another Giovanna who was baptized as Joanna Antonina on June 17, 1611.
There may have been more than one Calogero Bellitto living in Sciacca at the same time, or it may be that he had a previous wife named Elisabetta, sometimes called Betta or Lisa. Because of this, the following may or may not be for this ancestor. In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Secondo, there are two Testamento (will) entries for his name, both filed by the same Sciacca notary, Antonino Buscemi. The first is dated December 18, 1614, and the second April 4, 1616. Two days later, on April 6th, Calogero lo Billitto was buried in the St. Michele cemetery. (Mouse over and click on his possible Latin church burial record lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) No other information is on this mother church burial record, so there is nothing to prove this is ancestor Calogero. It is not known when Aloysia died, so for now, this is all that is known about them. |

Vincenzo Torre and his wife Antonella are the documented parents of ancestor Caterina. They lived and raised a family in the mother church parish of Sciacca, Agrigento, Sicilia, Italy. Unfortunately, a marriage record could not be found for them, so their ancestries are uncertain. There are two Sciacca mother church baptism records that could be for ancestor Vincenzo. The first is dated May 5, 1560, for Cola Vincenzo, the son of Antonino and the other is dated August 26, 1563, for Vincenzo Giovanna Andria, also the son of Antonino. They may have been brothers and either one could be ancestor Vincenzo, but it’s more likely he’s the later one. In Pellegrino Mortillaro’s book, Andrea Randazzo un notaio storico Volume Primo, there is a Sciacca notarial marriage contract filed on August 21, 1588, by notary Sigismondo Mandracchia for Vincenzo Torre and Sebastiana Santangelo, that may be for these ancestors. Although her given name is not correct, and her maiden name is unknown, the timing seems to fit. This same couple is listed again in another undated contract entry, but her given name is listed as Basianella. These old dowry records are extremely hard to read, so an error could have been made during the transcription, but this is only supposition. (Mouse over and click on their undated possible marriage contract entry upper left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Following through with this supposition, there is a January 16, 1575, mother church baptism record for Jacupella Antonella, that could be for ancestor Antonella. (Mouse over and click on her possible Latin church baptism record middle right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) She was the daughter of Geronimo and Caterina Santangelo, but again, only supposition.
What is documented are two mother church baptism records for the children of Vin’o and Antonella La Turri as follows — ancestor Caterina, who may have been named after her maternal grandmother; and Leonarda, who was baptized on October 10, 1603. There was at least one other child, Giovanna, who is assumed to have been born dead as she was not baptized.
Antonella Torre wrote her will, which was filed by Sciacca notary Andrea Gaudio, on the same day she died and was buried, September 28, 1618. (Mouse over and click on her Latin burial record lower left to enlarge in a new window or tab.) Her mother church burial record lists her as Antonella wife of Vcezo la Turri and Giovanna daughter of the said, buried in St. Domenico. It is assumed Antonella died giving birth to her daughter Giovanna, who was probably stillborn. It is documented that Vincenzo was alive on April 8, 1619, the date his daughter ancestor Caterina was married. Almost 9 years later, an inventory of the property of Vincenzo Toro was filed by Sciacca notary Vincenzo Gallo on February 15, 1628. (Mouse over and click on his inventory entry lower right to enlarge in a new window or tab.) A burial record could not be found for him, as they are missing from the register for this time period. He probably died within a few days of the inventory date. Unfortunately, most of this is uncertain, as nothing else is known about them.
